GCS Sarasvati - early Thargoid lookout megaship

Hate to be the nay-sayer, but could this just be set dressing with the assets available in-game?

Sure I think that's always a possibility. But I like to assume that Fdev could have just used blank containers :) I know if I'd put the Sarasvati there I'd have been careful about which containers I used.

Got back to Jotunheim to start mooching around for any signs of the Equinox Archive. Popped into the Monkey Hangout. Seem to remember someone reporting an npc tale of an organic alien structure found in deep space-was that at the Monkey Bar? Memory fails me on this & after a forum search can't find anything relevant.

That one's at Squirrels Nest in Pleione

Might have found something (in)significant. Opinions please!

We've speculated on the origin of the Sarasvati, and if it's old, and whether it was moved to where it is now recently or if it was stationsed there originally, etc. etc.

How about this:

Last time I was there I took a lot of screenshots, including many of the rack of cargo containers and pics of each cargo container.

As you can see, this one is a cargo container of Vogel - the Scarab manufacturer - as far as anyone seems to know that's all they make (plus is says Scarab on it).

So... someone at some point took (at least one) scarab to the Sarsvati? http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Vodel

Also, I don't think we know exactly when the Scarab was first made, but I think it's relatively new - probably much more recent than 3175, so that at least suggests that the Sarasvati was at least resupplied at some point more recently, doesn't it? - even if it's not a scarab in there, just using the container for something else, then unless the Vodel Scarab has been around for 130+ years...

Thoughts?

(other containers there are marked: Manticore, LXE, Caine-Massey, ROSS Projectiles, Kinematic Armaments, Lycan, Mastopolis, Brewer, Mosher )

Finally got around to reading your article (horrendous week, lots of IT problems!). What has struck me recently is a thought that perhaps the Club have got things wrong. Perhaps the current “Oresrian” Thargoids are the Guardian AI war machines, while the supposedly hostile Klaxians are the Guardian emigrés/remnants, which would explain the current antipathy seen by goids against Guardian technology, and maybe explain why FD have taken the trouble to apparently introduce Guardian territory on the galmap for the next release.

getting back on-topic, I started to have a look at Jotunheim 7A. I downloaded an Cr11k Intel package from the public datapoint at the surface outpost there, but strangely it didn’t show up in my transactions tab for a while, then it appeared (no indication of allegiance to sell it to), then it disappeared again from my transactions. How do we think the Equinox Archive might appear in-game? Would have to be a PPOI, but haven’t spotted any other stations from SC just above the drop height.

edit: just finished your Thunderchild article (the format of this mag doesn’t seem to be very ipad-friendly, having problems getting new pages to update & expanding the page to make it readable means the top of the page disappears out of view). Hadn’t thought of the contingency as being the mycoid, but you may be right on that since from the last INRA base log it was clear that INRA had another weapon that they expected to be effective but wasn’t (at least against larger goids). One thing that has always puzzled me, given the ban on AI, is the presence of holographic adverts in numerous space stations for robots; which to be useful must by definition have AI. Do we have any more information on when AI was banned, and why?

edit2: has the mag gone offline? Was up to around page 38 but now can’t open the file.
edit3: working fine this morning. Good mag! Regarding the Great Filter, I think any sentient space-faring race is going to be inherently aggressive; it's related to evolution and nature being red in tooth & claw- only the most aggressive (& possibly intelligent) species will survive and have the drive (unintentional pun!) to reach space.

That's a question I've been thinking about. Right now I expect it'll be something like the INRA bases, maybe a structure with a collection of data interfaces (or a ship). But I'm not sure if we'll find it as such - I've no idea how it would be represented in game, or even how big a "data archive" in 3304 will be? The size of a postage stamp?! it might be that it's more about finding evidence it was there, a bit like the Rift logs where there's a dozen or so data points that build a picture of events. I'm hoping that if Gail is anything like we've imagined that she might emerge as a NPC character, maybe a PP like character that we can align with?

Glad you enjoyed it :) Yes we've been fiddling with the best way to view it, we're trying something new for next issue I think!

Right - Achilles Androids (those adverts you see): Androids are in a legal grey area in Federation, Empire and Alliance systems. It's legal as long as they don't have machine sentience.

The ban on Sentient AI - I've not been able to find any dates on this, only that it's been oft-repeated, here's the most-relevant info I can find on it:

“Part of the secret history of the universe is that AI (sentient machine) has been created on a few occasions and they’ve proven to be so dangerous that they’ve basically been banned. AI is one of the few things that the Alliance, independents, Empire and Federation will actively work together against to defeat if they have to. It’s not made public knowledge, because they don’t want people to be actively working on it, but things are kept behind the scenes to make sure such technology never develops. That doesn’t mean of course that it hasn’t. It is believed that maybe one or two have escaped into deep space, but who knows, maybe we should find out.” Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6z5OK8J5pg&feature=youtu.be&t=8m31s

Michael Brookes commented "It's not AI that's banned, but machine sentience. You can still have smart computers, but they're not allowed to be self-aware." "Self awareness is a different construct to intelligence. You can have a system making intelligent decisions without being self-aware, although finding a definition of self-awareness or intelligence that everyone agrees with is probably a bigger challenge" "Mimicking humans isn't a greatest test of intelligence in my opinion. Machine intelligence would be of a different order to human thinking." Source: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-Why-is-it-prohibited-in-Elite-Universe/page3

There's some interesting things here (to me), it suggests that MB and the team put a lot of thought into the idea of AI and machine sentience - it doesn't seem to be just "No, there it's any", I suspect that even if Thunderchild turns out to be nothing to do with AI that at some point Sentient Machines will be a factor in-game (maybe another faction behind a permit lock).

Thanks for those references. Couldn’t open the first osurce but will digest the others; kept meaning to watch those fiction diaries for a long time!

Made my way out to the GCS-Sarasvati

Really does feel like there should be more ships as part of Equinox

Is its positioning nearby the Nebula related to the nebula, or just part of an parameter around the bubble

I tried searching at variants/mirros of IC 4604 Sector FB-X C1-16's Coordinates but had no luck

I cant help thinking that as its stationed by a landable, there ought to be something on that planet. I had a quick look when I was out there but saw no signs.

I remember you mentioned that a while back, plus the cargo container on the Sarasvati suggesting it carried a SRV does make me think that might be a clue to look for a ground base...

The first discovered crashed scout.

I searched around big craters because the INRA bases where near them but I found nothing. Anyway Im saying since many weeks that we must deep search that planet! However some stupid things like work and social life stop me from doing it (effitiantly).

Besides that is anybody realising that the new planet textures are going to make it extremly difficult to find stuff?!! Go to the first scout in the beta. You cant see ....

I've abandoned searching for stuff since Fdev said they were working on new exploration tools to be honest. I'm hoping that searching for tiny things on giant planets might actually involve using some of the technology of the 34th Century soon...

Q4 for the exploration tools according to Obsidian Ant, that’s too long to wait for me.

I agree, so hurry up with that surface scan I want the report on my desk in the morning.

I've made you an appointment for eye rehabilitation therapy and a sanity check at eleven.

I may be insane, but I need the eye rehabilitation therapy before doing any more surface searching!

besides, I’m back in the bubble & not planning on redoing that journey.....unless being chased by Thargoids

Nothing but Gut feeling

* With the Caveat I have never found or discovered anything, ever had a correct theory or contributed anything to in lore or research so....

Oh man, I know that feeling.

FYI - If there's a search of the Sarasvati planet happening I'll happily take part.
