Hardware & Technical Geforce Experience - Shadowplay stopped working with Elite?

As a test, yesterday I installed 390.77 without GeForce Experience 3 and then installed GeForce Experience v2.11.4.0 and after doing my normal jiggery pokery it all worked the same as before, so I'm happy on that count.
Recording with ShadowPlay with Alt-F9 works with ED (full screen) and the Desktop (after ticking Allow desktop capture) at anytime.
I never have Shadow Time on.
I have to start GeForce Experience with the shadowplay option on the shortcut to get to the settings.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\NVIDIA GeForce Experience\LaunchGFExperience.exe" -shadowplay

Guys, thanks for your help.

Nick (especially). I reinstalled the latest driver, clean and without GeForce Experience, then reinstalled GeForce Experience v2.11.4.0, and renamed the update menu. I don't think this happened before, but like Nick, I couldn't get to the setting without using the Shadowplay argument. Once I put that in, I was back in business, and I've got an elegant, Amiga-like, mind-boggling useful app that isn't overfeatured-bloaty-silliness, and, (and this part is key) it works.

So thank you all.

BTW, had a quick try in MiddleEarth Shadow of War, and got a red line through the green status icon. I'll have a play with that later. Cheers.

Update: MiddleEarth Shadow of War is now working too, I think I was trying to capture from it with Elite Dangerous also running, which I think confused it. :)

Im using geforce experience 2.x, as I refuse to install any of that cloud nonsense for a g gpu driver. It works most of the time, but shadow capture usually spits out corrupt videos for some reason. I think I have one of the newer drivers as I recently upgraded to a 1060.

Glad it's all working now.

You said you were trying to use alt+F10 to record. That stopped working when Frontier assigned alt+F10 to high res screen capture. You have to change the assignment in GForce Experience. I use alt+-F9 for last 5 mins and alt+F11 to toggle continuous recording.

not working for me with 391.01 drivers and geforce experience 3.12.0.84... :( i was able to stream on facebook and other platforms (720p only on fb?!? bleahh!) but not now... in game pointer
stops moving when i press alt-z, and nothing happens. The overlay doesn't come up... any help with this?

All is still working with Shadowplay version 2 - except it only works once! That is I use it (in manaual mode, Alt F9) then stop it, and then try to use it again and I get the red diagonal line through the icon.

I can bring up the little Shadowplay control panel, turn it off and then start it up again, and all is well, but its a nuisance having to do this each time.

Any more wise words to sort this nuisance out? :)

Unfortunately I've had this as well. I've not had time to fully investigate yet.
My work around is to do what you are doing.

Just to say, I thought the problem where you have to turn shadowplay off and on everytime to get it working again might be something to do with it trying to update itself (and failing) when I start it up. It briefly shows the GeForce Experience window then shuts it and opens Shadowplay. I was thinking if I could bypass that event, it might possibly solve the issue - so I messed about with some of the Nvidia services I could see after running services.msc from the command window thingy.

I didn't solve it, but I shut down the Telemetry and GeForceExperience Service (which made me feel better). I decided to keep Nvidia network service because although Shadowplay still worked without it, when I started it up it brought up an error window that I had to close.

The quest continues. :)

I will have a go at this but can't just at the moment.

I've always disabled a lot of the Nvidia services with it only complaining when I start (infrequently) the GeForce Experience settings thing.

What I was going to try was older drivers starting with pre v390 ones like v388.71 to see if that helps.

I know it worked well with v384.76 which was the last driver I had installed prior to 390.77.

For some reason I always have to disable and re-enable it before launching ED or it wont work.

Do you have it set for Manual mode? That's the only way I use it, probably silly but I've never really liked the idea of it recording to my drive the whole time.

I've always had issues with shadowplay and elite. When it works it's fantastic, but it has a tendency to either not show up or just corrupt my recordings mid through. I can't pinpoint exactly when it started happening, but it's been going on for a while.

Has anybody surmounted similar problems or have any advice?
Yes, I have the same issue since updating my drivers on my TitanXP. SP2 is fragged and will not run consistently.

Have not had to time to fault find it, but you are not alone.

PS One tip, make sure you are fullscreen in E: D settings.

Try OBS with nvencoder option. It has a much better UI,controls then the nvidia garbage, and uses same encoder (nvencoder)

I actually don't know what most of this means but ...

... I am going to find out.

Reason being that the Nvidia controls appear to have been designed as an elaborate joke. And not a funny one.

I gave up on GeForce Experiences and moved to X-Split Gamecaster. And by happy coincidence, it turned out that if you have and MSI "gaming" motherboard or MSI graphics card, then you can get the full version of X-Split for 18 months with no fees. :)

I've done a few trials this morning.

I had v390.77 installed with GeForce Experience v2.11.4.0 and was having the issues of I could record once but then had to restart GE to get it to record again.

I installed the very latest driver, v391.35, and then GeForce Experience v2.11.4.0 to see if that worked as I wanted it to. It didn't, it was the same problem.

I then installed the last pre-390 driver, v388.71 and then GeForce Experience v2.11.4.0 with the changes I normally make (see earlier posts) and it worked.

So, the chances are this is a deliberate change from v390 on, although it could be a mistake or bug.

Angus, I thought of the below after I'd reverted to v388.71 and won't be changing for a while now.
One thing you can try before reverting to an earlier driver is to turn on Shadow Time. I know you said you don't like this (I don't either) but if it is on all the time it might just make the normal manual recordings work.
Try it at the default 5 minutes and then if it works change it to 1 minute.

Nick, thanks very much for the info. (won't let me rep you at the moment). Probably a forlorn hope that Nvidia will rectify this on future drivers. Good work that you determined it was not us or our systems but something they have done, but since your help getting shadowplay working albeit on a one-shot then turn off and on basis, I've got a very workable system, and I'm happy to make do for now. I know when Shadowplay came out, it was with a hail of claims that it didn't impact on performance, which was indeed much improved, they alleged. I wonder if some of the alternative options mentioned above are as efficient.

Anyway, I will continue to review how well Shadowplay suits my needs, thanks again for sorting out my problem and the additional info. :)

I think there will come a time when GeForce Experience v2.11.4.0 won't work with the latest drivers at all and then it will be v3 and its login or an alternative like OBS.
At some time I will give OBS a go to see what its performance is like.
