Generated Park Maps

Hi everyone!

So I recently made a parkmap for Silvarret's Grizzly Valley park, as shown below, it's nothing beautiful, I know [happy]. But that made me wander if there could be a feature where the game generates a map similar to the map shown below.

It would be a quite nice feature for me, what do you think?

You can download the parkmap here (https://fromsmash.com/#/6806a733-27fd-11e6-a248-0a34a348c11b) if you want.

I think this would be a nice feature as well.

While you say your map is nothing beautiful, I find it quite a nice, clean and simple design. [happy]

Thank you so much!

I would realli like the feature!
How did you make that map? It is beautiful!

Thank you! I made this with Photoshop, using a smart layer to make the map seem 3D-ish.

Yes it would be cool to be able to generate a park map, and display it on posters around the park for the guests. It's been suggested, but is still a good idea, and this one is well made :)

Oh really? I checked the "Suggestion Compilation", but couldn't find anything similar. At least it helps to repeat it I guess! [happy]

Wow! YEAH! Park maps! That would be that awesome! Of course that we can sell them to our guests, that we can see somethimes that they are actually read them (holding them and watching them). That would be so cool!

And of course a place where we can put our own texts if we want :D Awesome idea!

Yes, It's been suggested already.
I do not know if this will be a feature because it seems really complicated to dev ...

But ...

I planned (since a long time now) that, the day we can import pictures in the game, I will create a Disney-esque "Park Map Generator Pack" !!! [up]
(as soon as they confirm the import of images, I start working on it)

At that time, we can also create a "Logo Request" topic, where forum members may request a "custom" logo to designers involved in the initiative.
That could be great too.

But it's too early for that, the game is just in alpha state and UGC is missing for now.
So we'll have to wait a bit.

I would think that the coding actual isn't all that much of an issue. The game is already reading all the data you want to show. What it needs is a UI icon which has "create park map" and what it will do is load the details into a 3D isometric view within a window.

The detail can be pumped right down so it reads the footprint of buildings for the shape on the map and just make it a cube to the height as per the real element. Then add an icon or list of icons if more than one facility is in a building as needed. The coasters can be the same model but just a solid coloured line that matches the coaster colour you have produced. The terrain map as it is voxel terrain should be easy enough to pump into this.

And when I say issue as in that it isn't any more complex than what the Devs have managed to do so far, not that it will be a 5 min job. Of course this could come right at the end of development as it's not a key feature right now.

Depend of what we call a "Park Map" in fact. [happy]

To make a "Mini map" (like the vector isometric map made by the OP) yes, it's totally possible.

It may take time, and I'm not really sure about the ratio "Development duration/Interest for the player" but that could be great (particularly with the view to the first person they began to implement with the cheatcode in the alpha 2, like the mini map you can hold in your hands in minecraft, that could be really cool to have something like that)

... But to generate a descent disney-esque park map like that (that you can find on billboards for exemple), it's not the same story.

Ah yes, it completely depends on detail level. The best I think at moment is to take a screenshot and bring it into a rendering program to make them such as photoshop.

I assume that is what you meant when you was on about producing a map generator yourself.

But yes would love to just be able to have the "3D mini map" in game without a plug in if possible.

Is something like this possible?

Or this?

Or maybe something more 'simple' like this?

The first and second images look spot on. What I would like is maybe to have different styles available so you can select what you prefer and the guests comment on the design even.

This is one of the solutions.
An isometric camera or a top view camera that take a screenshot, and apply a "cartoon" filter on it.
This is not perfect, but this can work if they want to a tool to add an automatic way to generate "Park map" in the game.

There are many other solutions (Including some to generate real-time maps). But I am pretty sure they will not take time to develop this feature.
Maybe I'm wrong (and like I said, with the view to the first person, maybe they have something in mind that we don't know) but, for now, I think the number of players interested in this specific feature like us is too low to justify such development cost.

I admit that this can be a very (very) cool gadget, but is it seriously worth it ?
I mean ... with a simple billboard uploader, we can do that ourselves.

I don't know ...

Nope.

Rather something like a free-to-use "action set" (or even a plugin) for Photoshop.
Something to generate an isometric 3D terrain/path/lakes/rivers, with the shape you want, and with all the elements in the file that you can drag and drop (like trees, rides, icons, etc...)

I think most if us has seen the working "Park Map Sign" for "the other game".

I like the idea at all to have park map signs in my parks. And the idea that ou guests holding park maps of our parks in their hands and read them is brilliant. I love also the idea to have later our own park logo on front of these maps. Some old ideas come into my mind.

Had not seen but this is probably the best thing I have actually seen for it so yes I would like to see something like this implemented for PC.

I really like the idea of guest holding the park maps themselves too. Something similar as the video you shown would be amazing as well. But I would like a tool to create a realistic park map as we all know them the most. It would be so amazing to see your park transform in a real park map!
