Getting my Guardian Cannon to fire

I recently installed a Guardian Shard Cannon on my Python. It shows to have ammo and has a fire group assigned to it but it will not fire. Anyone have a suggestion in fixing this problem?
 
If it is a turreted version then I believe it is meant for multicrew only and it doesn't work with a solo commander. You need the fixed variant.

Works fine in forward fire only mode.

I have three class three turreted plasma chargers.

Just use the functions tab on the right panel to set the turret firing mode to forward fire.

The turret versions however have much lower dps than fixed and give you absolutely no turret functionality unless you have a multicrew gunner. Why not just swap these out for fixed versions and re-install the turrets if you ever need them for multicrew?

thats not correct
my large shard turrets work perfectly fine without crew, just like a frag cannon turret.
 
Now I wonder if the plasma chargers work too. I just literally never tried it.

I doubt they will, because turreted plasma accelerators sounds too good to be true.

No, just the Shards bcause they are analogs to something that does work with turrets, frag cannons.

should be easy to find out - any weapon that is multicrew ONLY should have that written on the outfitting screen.
at least for turreted mining laser, flak and flechette (bugged) and shock cannon that was added

Above poster said the flak works for them though, and you included flak in that list.

It's works "perfectly fine" in forward fire mode as long as you don't mind taking a huge dps hit. If you aren't actually using the Guardian turrets for multicrew then you have no advantage whatsoever for using the turret versions and you're better off just getting fixed versions since they take fewer resources to unlock (1 weapon blueprint instead of 2 blueprints) and give you far better fixed weapon dps.

If the turrets worked like every other turret in the game and could fire automatically in "target only" mode then I would consider the dps tradeoff worthwhile and would probably have gotten the turreted versions instead but since I don't use multicrew gunners it would just be a massive dps loss.

They may have changed this at some point but I've read several threads on these forums indicating that the "turret" functionality for Guardian weapons is multicrew only which his why I haven't bothered with them and I haven't seen anything to indicate they changed this.

Guess I better go and get more blueprints. Going to build a Alien killing ship from scratch. Just wanted to see how these worked

mining lasers obviously dont work in turreted mode because you can't target asteroids to command the turret to shoot at it

guardian shard cannons have nothing special. they are just guardian themed frags.

That makes sense now, most of the threads I read were about the guardian plasma charger not working in turret mode and the responses seemed to indicate that it was a feature of Guardian weapons (or experimental weapons in general) to have them only work in multicrew. If the Guardian shard cannons work fine as automatic turrets in "target only" mode them I am going to unlock those right away because I am really enjoying my large fixed shard cannon but would also like to use the turret versions. I use medium overcharged corrosive multicannons on most of my ships as turret weapons and would like to swap them out with medium shard cannon turrets to see if that gives me better burst damage. I do realize that from a pure dps perspective an Engineered gimballed frag cannon would probably be a better choice but I like the visual effect and the ability to theoretically engage both humans and Thargoids effectively using the same weapon.
