Getting stuck on space stations and then getting killed - millions in losses

On the rare occasions I've got stuck since pre-beta it's always been my own fault, maybe I've been lucky.

I do a check in contacts to see which ships are about, if there's anything large moving towards the slot, in or outbound, I hold off until they are clear. Like I say, maybe I've been lucky.

Devs please fix the situation if you get stuck on a station entrance either from that stupid fence outside the air lock or on another ship in the entrance. I have been stuck many times. I get fined then 25 seconds later killed by the station. This is stupid, just stupid. If a player is stuck they should be able to type "/stuck" to shut down the station aggression and the game should move them 1KM away so they can land properly.

Hey man, that sounds like you need some flight lessons, fly slow and don't crash, it's simple, keep a speed of 30 - 50 m/s approach the station, get into the letter box, land .

Oh, I'm happy and having a lot of fun. I just mentioned that sometimes getting stuck isn't the problem of the player and that NPCs can do really stupid stuff.

Situational awareness helps a lot, but it doesn't help if an NPC decides to fly faster and below you through the slot or enters the slot while you are inside of it even if there is a lot of space on the side. BTW I think it got worse in 1.4.

Don't know how I got stuck with the T-7 I only remember that I got stuck between an NPC and the slot wall.

That's not an option for me. Do it right or die trying. No combat logging, no docking logging not logging to prevent anything bad that is part of the game from happening.

I usually only crash if I try to boost into station with stuntman maneuvers , otherwise I get in without problems

Know how you feel, docking without rotational correction at station HARD and was getting trapped in buildings and under loading equipment.

If I had to try doing docking regularly without rotational correction I would get a docking computer. Otherwise rule is to take it slow when docking.

Okay so I thought the lights meant clear slot, not lined up. My bad. Humblest of. I stand corrected and shall go feed myself to a blender or something else suitably dramatic to match the response above.

A simple "they are alignment lights" would have sufficed. :p

Edit: hang on, are you talking about the red/ green navigation lights. Or the 4 mailslot lights? They are not the same thing! I know the red/ green lights are orientation (and actually have no bearing on which side of the slot to use).

Solution: Turn FA off. Then thruster your way out.

Try it before you mock it!

With FA On, your ship is fighting the rotation and actually pushing you against the hull. It's the same with SC into the superstructure. Turn FA Off and you float away.

I have been stuck a couple of times and managed to boost away and hit the back wall of the space station with only a 400cr fine. However I was very @d on both occasions so I can't complain

So I have just realised the 4 lights around the mail slot are purely aesthetic; they flash on and off and have no correlation to anything.

I'm sure I read once they had a purpose but clearly they DO NOT. My bad.

Hey - no problem. I didn't mean to be curt - was trying to explain in a brief fashion - didn't want to create a wall of text that would result in tl;dr

This discussion has been going on since Alpha - i.e. a long time. Originally all the NPC's shot straight down the middle (which is actually what you would do in real life shipping). But so many people got it wrong, in the end FD bowed to pressure and now the NPC's go down the green side. There was also a force that tried to centralise you in the slot. A help for the big ships but not so much for the little ones. Don't know if that still applies though - may have been discontinued.

learn to land 'properly the first time then :)

OP: it sounds like you need to practice docking a bit more. It gets easier and easier - and you shouldn't be getting stuck over and over. Perhaps play the docking tutorial until you're comfortable, or fly in/out in a cheap Sidewinder many times. If you're flying a big ship (eg T9) be mindful of where the cockpit is in relation to the body of the ship (in the case of the T9 it's in the middle; in the case of an Anaconda, it's on top).

And they have. You are right, Kofeyh ;)

NPC pilots take the green side to enter and exit. So do i and i never ever got stuck in the mail slot, nor did i get rammed by an NPC. If the lights would be orientation lights telling where up is, those on the inside would have to be on the same side than outside. They are not and both sides are indeed separated by a large flashing light in the middle... Probably to indicate... well... The middle? They are no traffic lights but clear flow direction indicators. Green shows the side to use. It is that simple.
