Getting tired of Elite

I'm not sure about criticizing the players doing what they can to stay interested with the "tools" given to them. Don't blame the player, blame the content... or lack of.
I have the same "tools" available and decide not to be a Richard and go troll or annoy or kill other players cause "I can".
I see your point, I just don't think it works. You know, self responsibility 'n all that...

We won't have to argue about the lack of content though ;)

The unfortunate truth of it is that player interaction in ED is limited at best, FD are focusing on pvp because there isnt much else. You cant transfer money to players (probably to remove the gold sellers that are in every other mmo) and transfering cargo in a station is not in the game. The interactions that are possible are either pvp or solo play in a group (in open). Maybe its just not a very good universe for multiplayer....

By the time I had read the first page of this post I had seen:

This game focuses too much on PvP
This game does not focus enough on Pvp
We need player owned stations
Player owned stations would be a terrible idea
Exploration needs to be improved
Player interaction needs to be better

and the thread goes on like this. Every statement saying what is needed in the game is followed by it's opposite.

This is what Frontier is up against. It is not possible to do everything all at once. From the track record so far, I think Frontier are doing a good job of adding content and then modifying it when seeing how it works in the wild. It all takes time though.

We have a saying in the UK: 'If you don't like the weather, wait five minutes'. If you are finding the game boring then have a bit of a break. When you come back it will be different. Hopefully it will still be the same game, but with new features and improved old ones. With any luck it will be better for you but if not, take another break. The game changes all the time.

You can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time. Except gamers, probably easier just to stick 'em in boiling oil :p

And can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Because when I log on I really enjoy it. Is it because I don't try to play for 6 hours every single day? I mean I like going to the pub and getting blathered but I wouldn't do it every night. I like many things but I know when to stop.

You miss the point when focus on the differences in the posts. Look at the common part of all posts and many many threads, which is in between the lines: there is not enough content in the game for a long time motivation.
Currently (for me) all the new things like PowerPlay or Community goals do feel like a ball thrown for a dog. I feel like the dog, not like the ball ;-) So I dont participate and left the inhabitated space on a long and relaxing journey, still enjoying the game but I see the end of the tunnel (which is dark, not bright).

do what most people do and take a 2 year break. maybe one day they will introduce the sandbox or a real BGS

The game needs somewhere else to go after earning the 'Iron Ass'. The game's ultimately about making money and once a player can afford a maxed Anaconda what more can the game offer? What's the point? The game needs investment opportunities for super-rich players in the form of player-owned content. Prospecting for, founding and naming new colonies. Buying or building and running space stations and capital ships. Hiring other players. Building a war machine. Crushing someone else's war machine that has got out of hand. People asked for this from the outset of development, just as they asked for planetary landings and being able to walk around the ship interior. No one asked for Powerplay, which just boils down to a few cardboard cut-out cartoon characters who control the Galaxy and whom you can tediously work for in a tiny variety of pointless missions.

Hello good people,
It is really really sad, but I'm starting to get a little tired of Elite, the developers have a wrong focus according to my opinion. They focus to much on pvp and combat. I need more exploration and the wonders of space. More player owned and controlled objects. Build stuff in space and on planets. I want planet landing. Flying in the clouds of gas giants or a planet. More player to player trading and teamwork. Hate all their limitations, just so they can make more player vs player competitions out of it. Am I alone in this? :S

Complete agree. I have give up to play from long time. Just checking patches from time to time and see nothing is getting better. Exploration part is almost childish. I had some regrets for my beta payment.

I just want to agree to 100% with what Commander Haddon wrote. This would be great and something that really would add to the game experience of Elite Dangerous.

I haven't played at all for 4 months or so (thou i did update and briefly played ED yesterday but that didn't last very long ) I'd really like to but its too shallow. It continues to surprise me that FD does have a "lightning in the bottle" and they are doing pretty much nothing with it. I know that game development takes a good while and all that but to me ED seems to drift away from the hardcore spacesims rather than towards. We'll see what planetary landings/FP brings along (hopefully astronomical changes) but till then i'm going to continue my cryosleep and dream about Elite 4 and "the other" space game, its all i have ATM.
PS: I coudn't agree more with CMDR Haddon.

yep same here don't play a lot any more got to my lvl cap . ill wait and see what happens with this game . but having lot of fun with World of Warships :D ill come bk in a 5 years time when it has some content ...

Same here. World of warships is too much fun. Will be back to have a look at CQC, but I'm really waiting for planetary landings PROVIDING I can do something on the planets other than just wander around.

Exactly what I was trying to point out! PvP and combat is not bad, I love that too. Never think otherwise. That was the only thing I did the last few months, but it is shoot kill repeat, it's boring!

Yep.

When they bring this in I'm going to buy as many stations as possible and not let anyone land unless they pay me 1$ on paypal. I just hope they don't have fuel scoops!

If they don't pay, they can land as long as they sing "it's raining men" over the public channel.

I can't think of a better direction to take the game!

Lol, right, cause playing online with a hand full of others in the same area who go after their business just like NPCs - or mindlessly attack you and look for trouble - so makes a difference...
Why do you think many switched to solo mode completely?
Online sucks, besides the few good players who actually add to the immersion are too many retards who just troll, annoy or linger for a kill for the sakes of killing.

So immursurve, duh!

*le sigh*
Already a somewhat older post but I think this one needs some attention.
I've been playing open for months now. Been trading, mining, exploring, combat zones, bounty hunting in res, even some smuggling.
Yes there are players out there who want your cargo, or even worse: you.
But so far, I've hardly seen any griefer at all. One guy maybe. The others?
Pirates mostly. Even some nice fellows (too nice for a pirate :p).
Some aligned with Archon so it's their 'style'.
Learn from it and adept.
Game is easy enough already.
.
And there are good people on open too.
Some even offer protection for a small share in profit.
Talk with other players while docked, learn about outside activities before you embark.
.
Now, suppose they are going to release an update which includes Thargoids or anything like them.
Do you think they will hesitate even one second before opening fire on you?
Are players going to complain they want a 'Thargoids off' switch?
.
I wish everyone played in open. In fact, I won't be bothered if solo vs open was a character choice you could make only once when creating your commander.
(Having said that, I also think this requires the ability to have two commander slots)
.
Seriously people, never go out without defences.
Never go out without thinking about an escape route.
Never go out without insurance.
Always go 4 pips in shields when docking or leaving a station.
There are so many things you can do to avoid becoming a victim.
And this IS Elite DANGEROUS.
It's supposed to be a thrilling experience!

So what? No one would visit, you would earn nothing, have no friends, and you will sit there in your base all alone. And by the way, I don't think you will have a chance to build/buy many bases all alone. You need friends/power/credits for that.
Everything balances itself.

Not before I've lasered a few people, and not before a lot of people have run out of fuel and had me taunt them. In any case the game is populated enough so that I won't run out of fresh "victims", particularly if I buy my station in a good place.

Not even I'm cynical enough to believe they'll hand control of game assets to players. That would be effectively handing griefing tools to players, and there would be so much ticketing and complaining about abuse of stations owned by players the entire support system would collapse.

Never give chimpanzees the key to your banana plantation and ask them to guard it, sometimes you can see a disaster waiting to happen.

Again, good luck with that, I dont think the feds or any other faction for that matter, would like that you killed their pilots and then quickly put a bounty on your head and hard earned bases. And this is what I would have LOVED to see in-game, compelling stories like this.

Some signs point to planetary landings being the big announcement in august, so maybe keep subscribed to the newsletter, at least, so that you are aware of it when announced. Otherwise if you're feeling burnout you should definitely try something else, there are a lot of fun games out there! It's good to mix things up.
