Getting use out of those X52 extras (pic hvy)

I was lucky enough to pick up second hand x52 marked as broken for absolute pennies and it turned out to be almost perfect (clean, no scratches but stick axis were swapped round and the that holds the palm rest on the stick broken. took 10 min to fix)

Fantastic stick for Elite, I was using default bindings for good while, but then got fed up with base buttons on the stick. It is very inconvenient to have to take the hand off the stick to deploy landing gear, toggle silent mode, etc.

My solution to that was to use the pinky modifier to move some of those functions to better locations.

For example: the middle button on throttle (above clutch) is my hold-to-reverse-throttle, however when pinky switch is held down, it deploys landing gear.
Few similar things for cycling weapon groups etc.

one other useful mapping that I use a lot is F12 on the left wheel under throttle display. it's the only button around display that Elite recognises (number 32, i guess that's the last integer it can use) and it's sooo convenient to reset Rift position without having to search blind for the real f12 key . Highly recommend this.

Can't wait to try some of the suggestions in this post. the 8way throttle hat sounds fantastic as do mode macros for landing/flight/combat.

Has anyone tried modding their sticks? There's the magnet mod and removing indents from throttle that are most popular. Would love to hear how it works for Elite.

I would also be very interested to see the configs that people use. How all the actions mapped out.

I've removed my throttle detents, made a world of difference (I'm on full range throttle).
As for mapping, I've rebound almost everything. Move whatever you use most to the locations that are easiest to get to.

Will try that too. The detent gets especially annoying when docking.

Well, I already have, but people usually come up with rather innovative solutions that are nice to see. Maybe i'm simply not using all the options to their full potential. :) just like the 8way hat trick.

I've sent you a pm Vingtetum as I'd like to try your settings out.
I've had my X52 pro for a couple of days & really looking forward to getting stuck into them!

Vingtetun that should have read. Damn you sausage fingers!
I've had a little play with the docking tutorial & found it a bit tricky getting used to them. Have other users had difficulty initially but then passed a point where they're better & easier than mouse & keyboard?

Another few batches of x52 profiles sent out to people. let me know if you have questions.

In the dropbox there is now:
Gamma.binds: the keybindings I use for my setup
Flight1: X52Pro (pre gamma) with fire 1 boosting power to the weapons when held and lowering again when released (good for lasers)
Flight2: X52Pro (post gamma) without the above fire modification, I prefer to do mine manually.

Having sent out so many of these, I'll be keeping them updated from the link in my Commander's Log at the site below. Will keep posting up modifications and updates here on the forums, but if you want to subscribe to the relevant post on my blog, it will hopefully keep you informed about updates.

I'm after a little help - I've had 6 or 7 commanders ask me for a normal X52 version of my setup, not the Pro version and I don't have the means to create one to the same layout. Can anyone help (if we swap notes).

I also desperately need to put it together as a diagram to help explain how I've done things for the beginners and need a hand with that a little, too - I've got screenshots of the various configurations, just need to glue it all together nicely.

Other than that, hope you guys and girls are finding it a useful start point for your own setups.

(p.s. there is now a TrackIR5 config in there as well from my own setup)

Could I please get the dropbox link also?

Omegahunter - e-mail received - files on their way later.
Funkcanna - send me an e-mail address by PM and I'll send it over with some destructions.

I wouldn't mind a copy if possible, just brought my X52 it's working ok with my bindings but useful to see how others have done it.

Cheers

I've got a friend with the X52 non pro who I will have to get setup with a saitek profile. Saw that the Pro and no pro don't work with each other (not sure if a non pro will work on a pro)

Was hoping that it could just need a file edit of the profile to get it to work but from what I can see they have given all the button different numbers :(

If I have any luck will let you know.

I have a problem with the second trigger.
Is there a way I can disable this button so it doesn't register as anything?
Right now it's the cause of so many headaches.

Even if I map to an action or not, whenever I fire and hit the second trigger, the weapons keep on firing for as long as three more seconds after releasing it, which is really annoying.
It doesn't do this when I only use the first trigger and no, not hitting the second trigger is a pain to get used to.

I've been getting that issue, was thinking it was a game network bug. Will looking into that as never thought it was the X52.
Its been causing my pulse lasers to overheat in combat :(

If I map any other button for fire, I don't get this issue. This is how I know it's related to the X52. To make matters worse, a friend also has the X52, and doesn't have this issue. Go figure.

Thanks to the OP I have now solved my pinkie finger issue where it was "toggling" instead of "holding", which meant I had to keep clicking the pinkie button to get the desired effect. This was because "latch" had been selected in the pinkie button configuration in the Saitek profile - removed that and my pinkie button works as intended :D The 8 way switch has also helped enormously.

Have some rep :)

Not sure why you would want to use the pinkie button as a firing button. Its perfectly placed to use like a "Shift" key to double the use of the buttons on the hotas, without setting up another profile.

I am still having a bit of Trouble with the Modes. I want to program the modes for different uses while in game effectively getting rid of the key board. Such as when I switch to mode 2 or (purple) Joy 7 then turns into my Jump to Super Cruise rather then engaging my rear thrusters on my ship in Mode 1. Now I am at the point of getting down the functions of these buttons, but have no Idea how to tie them in to the actual settings of ED. :S Help?
