"Git gud" is a term that needs to be stamped out of existence.

I see it everywhere I go in gaming forums, and it is insulting every single time I see it. In the context of Elite, it is related to harder NPCs; the majority of players saying it appear to be PvP types unaffected by the change. The rest of us who play more leisurely (aka "casuals") are often the ones who suffer the most when difficulty ratchets up suddenly.

The issue is, the simple fact is not everyone has the physical skill set, the resources (I myself play on a hand-me-down KB&M) or the time to, as the elitist crows puts it, "git gud". People have no idea how to be people anymore, and those with a super high MLG skill set demand everyone all play at their level, that every video game they ever pick up all be catered to their skills, and      on you if you can't match them. If the game isn't difficult, they scream at developers to make it difficult or they'll take their business elsewhere. When someone not of their level has an issue, they swarm on them with "GIT GUD SCRUB" comments; in the context of Elite, they're then surprised when nobody wants anything to do with them and they stay in Solo. It is precisely because I can't stand these sorts of people that I personally play in Solo.

The simple fact is that players who yell at others to "GIT GUD" don't actually want these players actually getting better. They want to always have this aura about being "better" than everyone else and lord it over those who can't succeed at getting better on their own for whatever reason. They react with toxic levels of schadenfreude when games get harder. If a player were to actually get better, then said player could challenge them and knock them off the throne they've set for themselves.

If you really, REALLY want to see the game get better, and the players get better, then offer to help. Offer to mentor. Offer to train. If you just say "git gud" then quite frankly you need to be isolated. You already have your reward. You have nothing further to add but sneering and contempt. And so, you deserve it right back.

This is one reason why gaming communities are often so toxic. Everything's a competition when it doesn't need to be.

No actually the reason communities are so toxic is because of the constant whining about stuff. Honestly need to start offering cheese with the constant whining about all kinds of stuff, for instance:

- The AI is too hard make it easier my 3 yeard old child can't beat it at the hardest level.
- 1.6 people will be at a disadvantage whaaaaaaa, I can't pay the $20 to get horizons and now I will not be able to win without my eyes closed.
- The engineers will be a grind whaaaaaa, I can't get the max stuff in less than 24 hours.... whaaaaaa.

How about you people just play the game and adapt and overcome instead of whining about it.

Also in before the lock, the trolling attempt it strong and I couldn't resist feeding the troll.

There are lots of terms that need to be stamped out of existence.

It seems to me that you have been triggered by the PvP community.

I am sorry you feel this way, but if you took the time to actually get to know any of the major PvP groups you would find that they are actually all really great and mature people.

Man, I'm certainly not a pvp expert or even good at it , I'm learning and I go to cgs very often to find other people and some challanging pvp, nobody ever told me "GIT GUD" whatever... what I found is exactly the opposite, everybody is friendly and willing to help you and have friendly duels with you, I don't understand what you are talking about buddy, I was amazed when I found out how good and friendly this game community really is, I played a lot of MMOs in my life and this is the only one game where the community tend to help others, even ppl of opposite faction, nobody bully you in this community, they just help you, all you have to do is communicate, you will find friends even in your enemy faction, I can tell this by experience, ED game community is definitely what I would like to see in all other games as well.

Git gud is just another way for people to say "you noob". Except git gud for some reason is more acceptable since it's just a passive-aggressive insult rather than a straight up insult like "you noob".

A lot of uneducated kids today use 'git gud' because they think it's a new term, a new way to express themselves, something they can call their own... when they fail to realize that 'git gud' has existed for a long time... as "L2P". It does amuse me though to see new generations of chocomilk drinking testaments to the failure of an education system come into their own and try to make their awesome ways of insulting people.

Everyone who uses 'git gud' are simply noobs who need to L2P before they add a new level of stupid to an existing insult and throw it out there as if it was there own.

Soon they will come up with another word for 'troll' and think they have revolutionized the internet.

Sit down, stop touching the keyboard and finish your chocomilk kids.

Yes, but many people come in this forum and complain that the game isn't fair or that it's broken because they haven't understood the game-play, taken a too high risk with the skill and ship they have, or simply don't know what to do. To overcome that, they need time playing the game and practice, even though many of them would rather blame the game because they seem to believe that they can't do anything wrong. I think it's not very common for people to post simply "git good". Instead there are normally comments about correct technique, but you can't tell somebody how to be a good pilot, ultimately one needs to practice.

Do a search for "Robigo broken" to see how many threads there are complaining that these missions are unfair or broken. I've done 310 of them in a row without failure, simply because after 1000 of them, I know what happens, so I can adapt my game-play to always succeed without cheating. In other words, if you want to do Robigo missions successfully, you need to "git good".

It's the same with RES farming. There's thousands of different scenarios. After you've done it for thousands of hours, you've seen them all, so you know what to do. There's nothing clever about it. You just need the experience and understanding, though many people still come on here complaining that various aspects are broken, like all the "ram and scan" threads. Why is that it's no problem for me and many other experienced pilots? Is it because we have figured out how to side-step them when they come at us? These guys would rather blame the game and tell us that it can't be done. To them I would say, "git good". I've never seen anything from the AI that can't be dealt with by adapting your own game-play. All it takes is a bit of analysis, understanding and practice.

I have used that term , and I will say I am sorry if I ofended anyone.
The reason for me why I might use it for elite is simple ; over time I have never seen a game franchise get harder , or even listen to the hardcore audiance.
Every time something gets more intresting for me it gets nerfed to the ground aftwards.

I am very scared that the AI will pushed back down to the point were combat is easy again.
I feel that currently even elite AI (in beta) are still somewhat easy... so my solution would be to add an option of ''open hard'' ''open easy'' ''solo easy'' ''solo hard' or just the option for solo , either way... I will go were the AI is good.

As for communities , the one here is one of the nicest ones I have ever seen. there is a lot of whining and aimless hate going towards elite... but overall everyone is nice here I find. (not like the bioware forums were everyone seems to want to kill the mass effect authors for creating one of the best stories in human history)

No. it's not trolling. It's just a culmination of years of dealing with these sorts of people. Hell, I saw someone use "git gud" in relation to SKYRIM some three or four years ago (In the form of "LTP"). Which is by no means a difficult game to play (the topic was in relation to the player getting fireball nuked by Krosis on Shearpoint). In relation to Elite, my concern is that bounty hunting, a profession that already doesn't pay well in relation to trading, is going to have a reduction in income because they'll make the NPCs tougher to take out; my solution is to bring up the payments of each individual kill. Every time I post it, I get people jumping down my throat with "Git gud" whether openly, or passive aggressively.

It just suggests to me that they really don't want players "gitting gud" they just want to keep others from enjoying the game.

Agreed but don't hold your breath, its like the constant replies of "stop whining or whinging" yet FD seems okay with this type insult for some reason.

I expect a friend request in game. CMDR C.B. Mongo. Out exploring right now, but will be back in a couple days and I, and many others, are happy to spar anytime down to a hull % of your choosing. Also happy to divulge any info, tips, etc that I might have. I do this multiple times a week, with friends, strangers, enemy faction CMDRs - it's a pretty friendly environment. The biggest secret to the 'get good' is taking the time to spar with friends or strangers and being cool about it. Just need to take that first step forward.

Oh your poor fii-fiis.

People can say whatever the      they like, that's the nature of the online landscape. If I'm better than you at the game, I have every right to tell you to 'git gud' because I kicked your ass.

This comes into play with pvp, trading and exploration when I decide to do it. Granted, I'm nicer than most and will offer advice and paths to do so, I've written a couple extensive guides concerning trade routes for people who aren't as fortunate as to discover them by accident like I did, but that doesn't change the fact that my message is the same as the message of the guy who blew your ship to hell as you were exiting a letterbox then taunted you in the chat telling you to 'git gud'.

And finally; saying        players should be isolated and removed from the crowd is not only going to make the game less competitive, but it'll also take away a major goal for players- that being so that they can get good at the game, and surpass the        people so they can tell them to 'git gud' and look good to the people around them because they *drumroll* GOT GOOD.

And the whole toxic thing really isn't true. I've found that once you start ignoring all the idiots that tell you to kill yourself, or you learn to laugh at their shoddy insults the community is not only less toxic, but you can actually make a lot of really, really good friends in the community.
And complaining on the forums about the community being toxic is what I'd call a self-fulfilling prophecy; you're going to draw the crappy people out of the woodwork just so they can prove you right, while the intelligent people will either act as I have or flat out ignore you.

If you plan to stamp it out of existence then I suggest you git gud with your forum posting.

ED isn't a twitch game, you don't need a physical skillset, you need the patience to watch and learn. You'll learn more from playing the game than any player could teach you, unless you're playing against that player.

I've played more ED on a KB+M than I have a HOTAS, the KB+M has no disadvantages over a HOTAS other than the HOTAS is great for making your imaginary nerd-genitals tingle.

"Git Gud" is a rather apt response to people who don't want to learn. They don't post on the forums complaining that the AI is too hard and it needs to be nerfed as a method of looking for advice, they do it as a means to hopefully manipulate the devs into changing the game to cater to their personal tastes. The conversation never had a chance of occurring, and like any other rational, level-headed person, players with aptitude aren't going to offer advice where no advice is wanted. It's wasted effort. However, it's also important that they don't let the challenge towards the playability of the game go unanswered, otherwise the devs could possibly interpret the silence of the rest of the community as affirmation of a consensus that the AI is indeed too hard.

Thus "Git Gud" is not an egotistical means of "telling scrubs to blow off". It's a means of the rest of the community who doesn't need to "Git Gud" to tell people who don't want to learn more about the game to either clean the wax out of their ears and take a lesson or stuff it, because things are working as intended.

Edit: By the way, feel free to look through my post history. If you can find one instance of where I've said "git gud" in a non-humorous or literal fashion, I'll give you rep every time I see your name on the forums.

And to think that all this time, instead of whining about the game becoming a bit more challenging and asking you to put some nominal effort into getting your reward, you could have been honing your skills, whether they be motor or more intellectual in nature. Stop cultivating that hubris of yours and trying to paint yourself as a victim and the rest of the community that enjoys the prospect of the AI buff as evil elitists and instead figure out ways to adapt to the new situation.
Of course, in essence my message could be summed up in two words, I'll let you guess which ones.

Ah, I see, instead of taking the time honing one's skill, one comes to the forum and complain for entitlement while shooting down "get good" arguments for not putting time in helping other players.

See irony?

I see irony, especially considering close to no one's asking people for help to get better, but instead just wanting everything to be nerfed to "I win" button.

Yeah, not once has anyone asked me for help. I've offered numerous times, given my Commanded tag and you never hear back from them and never get the in game request. They have no interest in getting better.

The issue is, the simple fact is not everyone has the physical skill set, the resources (I myself play on a hand-me-down KB&M) or the time to..

I play on keyboard and mouse, flight assist off.

I am a student that has a double major with a minor, with TA duties, and a government internship.

No one has time yet everyone has time.

What I'm dismissing isn't people that are asking for a better learning curve, I'm dismissing people who blame their circumstance/circumstances in general and want "I-win buttons" against everything.

It's not going to be hard to "Adapt" at all. Chances are I just get in a Vulture or a Clipper and I'm still going to be farming credits. The problem is, people with a "git gud" attitude really do not want others in their "skill" space. This goes for any gaming community. See: League of Legends, Counter Strike, Team Fortress 2, and soon to come, Overwatch. These are all competitive games. Elite is not really a competition game, so I fail to see why people want to make it into one. We have CQC for that.

Ah, I see, instead of taking the time honing one's skill, one comes to the forum and complain for entitlement while shooting down "get good" arguments for not putting time in helping other players.

In any game whenever I've personally asked for help, I end up getting the usual "uninstall" comments when I don't perform to standard right away. The poster above said something about helping, but I don't trust anybody to actually do so. And I'd like to see how much I'll need to change what I do first before I can make any adjustments. I'm a kinesthetic learner.
