Give the python an SLF!

The Python can already do everything (and do it well) except equip an SLF...and you're asking for it to also be SLF-capable?
What reason would there be to fly anything else then..?

ok, to slap on a SLF bay to the python, you need to do exactly that, mount it under the belly, doubling the ships hight, and effectively changing its look to something resembling the conda.
this will also make it to high for the medium bay, like the type7

that variant could then be named "pregnant python" or so :D

What is the downside to it having a SLF? I really can't understand the hate.

It's worth bearing in mind several ships have received buffs to help them stay competitive, and in some cases (FDL is a perfect example) ended up a little OP, requiring subsequent buffs to other ships (military slots).

Over the life of the game the Python has received several nerfs, and it is still an excellent ship.

I get why people don't want the Python to have an SLF bay, but I'd really like the Condor to have one.

Isn't that a bit like suggesting we should give the Corvette another pair of C4 hardpoints cos, y'know, it can already mince any NPC with the 2 it's got so fitting another 2 wouldn't make any difference?

No, it would be like giving the Corvette two extra small pulse turrets. Do you really think SLF's make ships OP?

I think people are using the wrong term. 'Overpowered' in this context is more shorthand for 'being able to do absolutely everything'.

It's already by far the most versatile ship in the game when you factor in medium pad ability. I don't think having one thing that it can't do is a bad thing.

Note - you'd be hard pushed to find anybody who loves the ship more than me. Of my close to 3,000 hours in the game, I've probably spent 75% of them in a Python.

Hutton Orbital sells pythons that have an slf fitted, but it was 10% more expensive to buy, compared to a regular python.

In Fact ,, any ship with a class 5 slot can fit an SLF, if you have one that is, certain ships are not allowed to install an SLF purchased, but if you have one already purchased for another ship, a gunboat, for example, you can trade it to any class 5 slot, just have to adjust your power needs as well. I have done this several times with my class 5 slotted ships.
This is dumb, honestly.

You are telling me a Vulture should be able to fit an SLF? An ASP Scout with a Fighter? A Dolphin? How about the FAS and Dropship? The FDL?

Seriously, it takes more than just an optional rack size.

they are just a bit of fun, very handy in certain situations, but that's as far as it goes in my case.

The purpose of the fighter is to be a force multiplier.

Consider the ships that are allowed to have an SLF. Keelback, FGS, T9, Anaconda, Corvette, Cutter.

What do all these ships have in common?

Compared to the rest of the roster, they're fairly large and slow turning. They have a lot of blind spots that smaller, more agile ships can take advantage of. If a smaller ship gets into one of these blind spots and the pilot is competent enough, the larger ship cannot shake the smaller ship and the smaller ship will do incredible damage.

I myself has often enjoyed Tackling larger ships in my FAS. Pinning myself at point blank range in the blindspot where no guns can reach me to the roof of said ships. T9s were always an easy target for Tackling. And I'd deliver devastating damage in doing so.

Fighters are meant to even the playing field in this regard. If a smaller ship manages to hang out in the blindspot and focuses too long on the larger ship, a Fighter can attack with no retribution and deliver similar devastating damage. If the smaller ship responds and is force out of the blindspot to retaliate against the fighter, the fighter can draw the smaller ship out into the path of the larger ship's more devastating array of firepower.

This is called "Screening" and is pretty much the role of any and all fighter craft in this kind of warfare where ship weapons are big enough and powerful enough that fighters are just tissue paper.

Now consider the maneuverability of the Python. It has no such blind spot weakness.

It has the firepower of a Larger ship combined with the maneuverability of a fighter.

Smaller ships can always be 'on-target' where fighters and bigger ships 'trade-off' on who has the target.

The Python, if given an SLF, will have both effectively doubling it's firepower.

It's like being in a CZ and having two ships constantly attacking you at the same time. You will not survive.

THAT is why it's OP.

Can I get one for my Orca then, please, It is after all a large ship.

My poor helpless passengers need protecting.

Or

For recreational purposes only of course.

Whichever reason works.😊
