Horizons Give up..

hi David.
no the reason i'm stuck in a side winder (, cos of persons who play in open as ..eerrrrm"pirates'
which is o.k . if that s how 'they' want to play and i do think it gives the game some spice.
Yet/ But, it's alright for the 'PRO- pirate players to say.."boo hoo, learn to play-fly better'.
when most players, who are in trading /exploring, Generally single fly around the game -open- environment-.
The pirate player, on the other hand, tend to play in groups of Two's and threes. and in the massive big ships.
--On just ONE trip through Everate i was hit 3 times , twice by the same group.....WOW thats some great flying/challenge guys..
3 cobras on a single hauler-- Also been taken out by 2 imperials couriers at the same time.and the sad list continued till I just gave up playing this game.
I find it very 'odd' nay, amusing, that now days on the frontier forums,-and other chat areas-It seems those playing as pirates are now complaining that it's not fair to have groups, and solo play.. because thats where 'most 'players are now heading.
--if you pull all the apples off the tree, and keep doing it.....you soon run out of fruit to pick lol...
As for the 'game' .I think crime V punishment is needing a fix. as there is no punishment. And no difference in any system. no matter if its a high 'civilized' or 'anarchy' system . the police level is the same .. crap...

Having played the 'elite - frontiers game of old, you know your taking a 'risk' travelling through anarchy systems -but the rewards are great.
Try picking a fight in leeesti and police jump from everywhere.. they 'swarm' you. It's Unfortunate this is not the same for EDH.it would give those PVP +pirate players the challenge they so desire.
well ,this turned into a rant about a tired, old subject, that is not going to change .Apologies

I didn't read any of this, but I run a privateering guild. That means we hunt pirates, be bodyguards, etc.

Would you like to hire us? It's no trouble, really.

Try going a bit further afield than eravate, pirates are not everywhere plus there is always the option of solo until you have a clue on how to escape...

Well, maybe ask the resident Eravate faction, Adle's Armada for help. They are self proclaimed newbie protectors, and I frankly would love to see if they actually do that for real.

Either way there's resources available to help you! Don't give up on Open just yet.

I’m someone who's played elite in the 80’s so can compare like for like.

There is no doubt things are different to what they were back then. From what I remember the Thargoids were our biggest threat, quickly followed by dying by hitting an orbiting station. Combat was a hell of a lot easier back then because we didn’t really have coherent groups who would defend each other to the death.

As for you ship , I’d say anyone sucks in a Sidewinder. Unlike most ships those Sidewinders seem to be manufactured out of reinforced kitchen foil and easily buckle with just a few hits from any beam laser regardless of what you have upgraded it with.

I spend most of my time bounty hunting in my Cobra and find the combination of groups you mention as minor competition and I’m not that great at combat. If you get a better ship (through trading) with decent equipment you’d see this in a completely different light.

As for Open Play. . . I’ve only done it once. Don’t see the point in adding the human element to something which is already quite unpredictable :)

Yeah there is a lot of 'pirates' that go on and on about how difficult pirating is, yet do stuff like this, and forgetting entirely they can entirely decide on how much of trouble they want, by picking on easy targets and such, quite sad, especially now that some are going "Ahhh there will be consequences for my actions, you are making piracy impossible!" yet I've read so so so many threads over the past year with pirates basically going on and on about how easy it is to avoid them and you just have to, to use the Dark souls words, 'get good', yet when things begin to make sense and piracy becomes more tricky as it should be, I mean seriously, freely flying around pirates in a high security system?
Then they go "piracy is dying."

Maybe for some it will be too hard, but in my book piracy was never meant to be easy, especially not as easy as it is now, just...sad.

But yes, crime and punishment system is incoming with 2.1

Hey Chistina, kermit is a great guy and so are the Adles Armada. I play in open but when i started in a sidewinder i was in private group with freinds ( who r all in open now ) as npcs when you are learning are bad enough as others have said. do not give up as you have options.
fight on Commander!

Get away from Eravate ASAP. Head into Empire or Alliance space. Almost no one out there. If you want a "social" game, then join the Mobius Private Group.

Erm.. I'm just really confused. Who's David? And is this a letter to him? Or to the forum? And is this letter from you or someone else? Because you have a forum level of competent which seems inconsistent with you being in a sidey.. Or did you lose your ship and end up in a sidey? Like I say, bit confused.

All I can say is this : you're in the wrong location and hence in "bad company"

LHS 3447/Eravate & Co are places that are better left ASAP.
They're hotspots and you've already learned that currently, criminal Playstyle is 100% risk-free... the receiving end (i.e. : you) foots the entire bill. That's Open Play in a nutshell in such places.

So my advice would be to put at least 50LY between you and any such hotspots.
And (shameless plug :D ) if you like, head up all the way to HIP 61061 and we'll have you back on your feet in no time. After all, there's more to Open Play than getting shot up all day.

I respect your position but why not play in solo , or continue in open but fly a real fast ship that can run away.
(okay you are stuck in a sidwinder so play solo for 20mins and you could have your first cobra in less than 20)

That's a shame, I left my FDL in Everate and went off exploring, so I'm 9000ly from Sol now....
I was helping out AA awhile back.
It was fun.

But yeah, you have many options;
Leave the immediate area.
There's several thousand star systems you can earn a living in. Nearly all never see another player.

Join Mobius or Solo, no issues there.

Or ask AA for help. There's usually 2 or 3 of then patrolling Everate and the surrounding area all day.

Do not give up... that way the idiots win!

You will learn, in time, that the reason they go mob handed, is that they are poor pilots themselves, and need 3 to take on a Sidewinder! (there really is no other sensible answer).

Fly away from Eravate, go to Alliance or Imperial space. There are lots of folk out there who will look after you, and it's somewhere where the average pilot is better than the average griefer in Eravate, so they don't go there.

I like your style dude; ya kinda stand back on the other side of the street and quietly observe the old man's family run shop get smashed up by local mobsters, without lifting a finger to help, then pop over and act all mister nice guy and offer him help if he agrees to pay you.... Oh wait! isn't that a 'protection racket' without having to bother with the intimidation bit?
