Give Yamiks an Alpha key!

Whilst I occasionally get some kind of twisted pleasure hearing his sneering about some misfeature in the game because he's got a point...

In this case, it warms my heart to think of the coders, designers, devops, artists, modellers, animators, sound people, QA, webshop, marketeers, release managers and production team people, slaving over a creaking pre-alpha build, having their moment of twisted pleasure at Yamiks not getting a free pass to take a few cheap shots at the inevitable flaws of their hard work.

Once again, no one is being excluded from anything. Some people are not getting something for free. It really is that simple.

Hell, Yamiks even said in that very video that handing out limitless Alpha keys would be stupid as there is a grey market for such keys. So he can understand that FDevs want to put a limit on those.

This is very true. I can watch some influencers, but Yamiks was far too much of a ranter. If I wanted to see more rants than useful information, we already have the forums. No need to support someone making a living out of mostly ranting. Especially when it's going to be an alpha - bugs and incomplete things are to be expected.

Because he's the Howard Stern/ Joe Rogan of Elite. Having a counter voice in a franchise is necessary to keep it alive and not going stale and die.

Maybe I'm the complete weirdo here, but when I try to watch new content for Elite on YT I simply type in whatever it is that I want to see (for example "Odyssey Alpha Gameplay") and then view whatever shows up in the results. I'm not particularly loyal to any specific 'content creators' (although I do have time for OA's stuff because I dig the format, length and delivery) so perhaps that's where I'm doing it wrong.

good arguments, slightly wrong context. this is not for testing nor for feedback, this is plain marketing, for all parts involved. so yeah, it's clear why they wouldn't want people listening to the yamiks, but the "constructive feedback" meme doesn't really apply.

(it could be argued that in frontierworld not even betas are for testing so that's a gray area, but that's a different story)

I already have explained. And I never said, or inferred, that Frontier have not given him a key for that reason. As I said, I cannot understand why people defend someone who has been so openly abusive in the past.

This is my opinion, and my view of the situation.

When I was researching gameplay information when I began playing, Yamics' videos were the ones I made sure to skip/avoid. 12 year old level of insults/bullying and humor.. I am shocked, absolutely shocked a serious brand doesn't want to give him a free key so he can insult them for free.

Exactly this. The alpha is for testing not previewing the final release build, and you know he will be ranting like it's the latter.

I'll watch his rants by the way :) I do enjoy his videos. But I will be watching D2EA and a few others for proper insight.

Yep, its blatant censorship. Nothing more.

They did the same thing to the Distant Worlds 2 organizers when inviting content creators to preview the 'Beyond' update. If I recall, no one from the DW2 team was invited, despite them being in the process of creating a multi-thousand player event and bringing massive and hugely positive media spotlight to Elite Dangerous via the event they were organising at the time.

Wrong kind of content creators I guess. Or Fdev have their favorites, and if you're not one of them, forget it.

Just about all of them could use an editor, like you I would only use videos to find out something very specific. Sitting through 30mins to get one or two sentences on the subject doesn't do me good. For that, the forum is excellent, perhaps that is why I don't watch videos about Elite, if I want to know, I can ask here, not sit through a prerecorded 'lecture' and hope they go into the detail I want.

So you think the alpha is only for marketing and not for testing and feedback?

I don't disagree that marketing is a part of it. The rumor is the end of Frontier's fiscal year is end of May (or early June) and they want Odyssey live by then.

But that doesn't mean they don't want us to test and provide feedback. Whether or not they do anything with the feedback is another story lol...

thanks, but you didn't really clarify anything, which simply highly devalues your totally respectable opinion in my view, but i can live with that.

you again accused someone publicly of abusive behavior refusing to give proof. and you're a moderator. dunno how tho put this, really ...
