Horizons Glide transition is annoying

I'm sure it's networking, it always takes minutes for me on the end of BT rural internet (installed circa 1906).

Since Engineers dropped, it's taking me anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes. I'm on minute 5 right now trying to drop into Martuuk's base in Kuhn.
.
Really annoying. Have a monster system and internet connection, so it is definitely not that. I think it may have something to do with playing in open because I've noticed it's far, far worse than solo or Mobius.
.
In the time it's taken me to type this, I'm still awaiting transition to the surface. Ridiculous. It's been about 7 minutes so far ...
Same, just JOINING solo in Farseer gives me time to make something to eat, or play a round of Rocket League... No kidding, I'm about to launch both next time and just play while I wait for ED to get it's stuff together.

I get that the matchmaking might be a bit overloaded since that is one busy place right now, but +5min for just getting into Solo and changing instances there? Come on...

I also want to note that I did have some almost instant transitions back in beta, when I was like the only person on that server cluster whatever, which is something I never had in 2.0 even when I went out of the bubble a bit. But no sign of that now with 2.1 live : (
Ok doesn't help of course that I now hang around at Farseer, but when I was on Merope 5 C trying to find barnacles (without success) it wasn't as smooth as in beta either.

Edit: for what it's worth, last time I was at Farseer was it fine again, not instant but no minute long hang ups. Seems overall better but more as in back to 2.0 with 1-3 sec hiccups, the near instant ones are still hiding somewhere : /

I'm pretty sure your systems will dictate this. I'm right on minimum requirements and the transition on planets is usually about 5+ seconds. I'm guessing you both have decent rigs.
Got a descent enough rig and still get annoying transitions. I think your connection and global position have a way bigger influence. The cause for the transition lags are after all the matchmaking and peer2peer.
Though it seems to also highly depend on how busy that system is, like when you're at the bum of the galaxy you should have no lag at all (theoretically) but when 2.1 released and everyone zerged to Farseer, well, transition times of +30sec were normal then.

The nicest part is that playing solo does NOTHING about that, you're still a slave of the matchmakings load (or lack of).

As for the glide transition, I hate it, I hate planetary approach altogether. Mostly because 75% throttle are the optimum speed for SC no matter what, but with planets? Eff that, sometimes you smack right into the planet going optimum, sometimes you get so slowed down that you end up going for 100% and still get crawlspeed and an ETA of 30sec until your targeted surface thingy, it's just annoying as hell.
The lack of an indication if I'm above glideable speed or not BEFORE entering it does not help.

I thought for example that the upper limit would be 10km/s because I've had times where I could smack into glide with that much, then I got TOO FAST with 8km/s and successful entering of glide with 20km/s, so it depends on the planets size, but isn't shown.
I wish they'd match up planetary approach with how throttle in SC works as in 75% will never make you overshoot, but I doubt they will because then it'd be 2ez.

Atleast show me what the planet's glide entry speed limit is so I know when I'm too fast or not, with how borked that is am I not trusting in 6sec ETA like for everything else.
But the worst stays the matchmaking lag, no matter what.

I think this comes down to your internet connection. You can see this just by reading the replies in this thread. I've got a very high end gaming PC, but a below average internet connection speed due to my rural location and lack of competition among ISPs. (Only 14meg down) I usually have to wait about 5-10 seconds for the transition from orbit to glide, and would love to have only 1-2 seconds or none at all.

Don't think this has anything to do with hardware since I am running an overclocked 980ti and 6700k CPU running at 4.7Ghz.
