General / Off-Topic God Save The Queen - Rousing speech from Her Majesty

Aye, badly worded. Best to you and yours, don’t let this be an excuse for further constraints on personal freedom. At the same time one should exercise such freedom to engage social responsibility.

For anyone who missed Her Majesty's broadcast, here is a transcript:

"My husband & I share your concerns & suffering in these unprecedented & difficult times - we can completely relate to those single mother nurses & low-paid zero-hours contract workers who are running out of money because I've also seen my assets decrease in value to a pitiful 1.6 billion pounds; self-isolation, social distancing & staying indoors has hit my household hard too - we only have 775 rooms in my house & the garden isn't quite as big as Hyde Park. Additionally, I'm down to my last eight servants; they are dispensable to us...oops, amusing Freudian-slip, there...I meant indispensable, of course!

Ultimately, this virus does not discriminate on the basis of class, wealth, ethnicity, accent, age or sex (unlike the extant UK establishment) - remember, we are all in this together - but in my favour, I do have instant access to my own personal ventilator, ICU & top-notch doctors under a system that patently prioritises my family above all of you plebs...& all because of the genetic lottery & the fact that my ancestors were more ruthless & violent than yours!

On behalf of the monarchy & country, I thank you all for your continued solidarity & stoicism - & my annual £50m payment from your taxes, of course - my embarrassingly credulous & acquiescingly loyal subjects"

Elizabeth R

Inspirational stuff - anyone else so proud to be British today?

Its a necessity to enforce personal distancing when the foolish, religious zealots, scofflaws and conspiracy freaks needlessly jeopardize the rest of us.
Best way to track community spread is the gps on a cellphone. You can have anonymous data for all that without infringing on anyone's privacy.

I'll share a short anecdote if I may....Having taken the Queen's shilling at an early age to fulfill a family tradition, I did a fair bit of ad hoc Royal protection stuff over the years, it was usually for the princess Royal during foreign visits...who I genuinely like.

I only met HM twice in person...once during a birthday parade for herself in Berlin in 1977 where she actually stopped and spoke to me briefly. Second time was at Buck palace when I was there for some presentation thing in the mid 80's. I was taken aback that she actually remembered me from Berlin. As she handed me a bit of worthless tin she mentioned with a smile that I hadn't grown any taller (really)...I replied quietly "Neither have you ma'am." to which she laughed...

I caused a smile on the first short exchange in 1977...since I kinda stood out amongst the tall, good looking proper soldiers who were all a foot taller and much shinier than I was...she mentioned my height then and I told her I loved that line from Star Wars which had just been released at the time... "Aren't you a bit short to be a stormtrooper?" That one cost me 5 extra guard duties and an entry into the RSM's little black book of born troublemakers...

My mum who was there for the presentation at the palace was horrified...since she saw the Queen laugh, not hearing the exchange and fully expected me to be clapped in irons and dragged off on my heels...my dad who was also there, not just being my dad but being an army Colonel at that time just rolled his eyes when I explained afterward :D

Remembering one rather small and insignificant soldier amongst the many thousands she meets every year is quite an impressive feat...certainly made my day anyway :)
