Griffin or Panther Clipper

After you get this ship you will ask for an even bigger one and this can go on forever.
You don't get it; we just want the Panther because we love the whole idea of the ship; a giant lumbering, virtually indestructible brick that takes 10 minutes to turn around which we can stuff full of juicy cargo.

Yeah, we want more cargo space, because we're traders, but it could be 1000T, it could be 2000T, or somewhere in between, it doesn't really matter. We just love the idea of the ship itself.

We could ask FDev to rename the Fleet Carrier to Panther Clipper. It has the specifications which you mentioned above.
  • giant lumbering - yes
  • absolutely indestructible - yes
  • turn time of 10 minutes - well, closer to 20 minutes but that could be changed
  • juicy carge inside, yes
Oh, you want more features? Now, that... wasn't specified ;)

The FC also:

* takes an hour or more on busy days to jump - assuming you can get a slot

* has a crew that can't shoot straight and will cheerfully allow you to get nailed by NPCs just a stone's throw away from the carrier

* can get repossessed because it's a rental. You don't actually own it

* is an eyesore and a pest in systems crawling with FCs

No thanks, we want a real ship.

given how easy it is for me as a T9 hauler to get in the top 25% in any hauling community goal i am reticent now about the panther. (despite asking for it in the past).

such a ship would make it even harder for the more casual players to be able to get anywhere in a CG. (bear in mind it may look like most players have all the expesnive toys but that said it does not seem to be true, its skewed on game forums because its the more dedicated players interested enough who bother to be involved in the online community.

of all the players i know personally who own elite (must be double figures) i am the only one with a T9 or a fleet carrier, and only one of them even has a kitted out anaconda. most players are still around the asp / python levels of ship.

That said they would be cool, and i echo the persons sentiments who claimed that fleet carriers are an eyesore (i wish i could filter out all fleet carriers EXCEPT my own but it seems the fleet carrier filter cuts mine off as well...... so maybe they should be colonisation vessels only....... they dont dock in a space station but can dock at orbital construction platforms and give certain very high production systems and perhaps low g Tier 3 ground bases special docking areas for them, and that way they would be specialised for colonisation rather than general trade and they dont wipe out normal supply economies and over dominate CGs, but still have a proper use case.

but then what about fleet carriers wouldnt they be obsolete? well i would also allow us to pay for colonisation systems to unload our fleet carriers for us, not instantly and we still need to load them, but just a service offered at construction sites. fleet carriers should also be given a panther docking port as well tho maybe only to connect to them, but cant be transported in them (it really depends just how big they get i suppose).

I was kidding :)

And the first comments will be "Why can't it perform as well as my Cobra?"

I have £13 in my pocket and am willing to bet all of it.

imho they should just give us options to transfer goods from carriers to colony projects without having to do it one shipload at a time. We literally have crew hired for these things that we pay weekly maitenance for. Just give us a module for transferring cargo to construction.

The problem with the idea of a 2000t freighter is that Frontier aren't wedded to the idea of a Coriolis taking 53,723t of cargo or a good trade route making 36,000 cr/t – they're wedded to the idea of a Coriolis taking 69 jumps and the upper end of trading being 80M/hr. You run the risk that you get your 2000t freighter and the game is rebalanced around it, meaning you've gained nothing while other ships have lost.

Still, the Panther-Clipper is a legend in this game and we absolutely have to see it. It should just be more on the modest side. If it had the same optional internal layout as the Type-10 plus two additional Class 8 spaces, it'd haul 982t with a shield and 1046t without, which isn't going too far. The Cutter would still be the fastest heavy freighter, but the Panther-Clipper would haul the most and still be pretty tough. The Type-9 would be somewhat redundant but Type-X ships are mostly designed to become redundant – what I'd personally do, though, is give players flying any Type-X the "Lakon Gold" insurance package, which would automatically insure their cargo as well. It'd solidify the Type-9's place as a "low cost, low running cost, low risk" heavy freighter.

Panda Clipper of course.

Honest of the future things to come that got me into the game the Panther Clipper LX is the last one that hasnt been implemented yet.

The datamined files for it in Odyssey give me hope but I'm not holding my breath

I've been asking for that since Elite Dangerous came out. Nothing worse than picking up your free Anaconda at Hutton Oribital and not being able to land to load it up with Mugs.

Some sort of Transit Module for loading / unloading cargo a hundred units at a time would fix that.
