Grind requirements are insane

Now that I have several hours gameplay in EDO I was curious how much more grind is required to get suit and weapon upgrades. It shocked me. So far, I was only able to collect a small percentage of the stuff required. I'm not good at FPS, so I don't go into settlement missions.
So, how shall a non-FPS player get enough mats for at least 2 suits (Artemis, Maverick) in a reasonable time?

FDev disabled all relogging "exploits" I'm aware of, which makes the situation worse. And I'm not saying that logoffski gameplay is fun.

To just upgrade all 3 suits (Artemis, Maverick, Dominator) from grade 1 to grade 5 you need the following materials. Be aware: This is just upgrading, engineering is on top of that. Data collected from crafting lists in INARA.
  • 93 Suit Schematic
  • 87 Health Monitor
  • 90 Power Regulator
  • 63 Manufacturing Instructions
  • 80 Aerogel
  • 80 Titanium Plating
  • 80 Carbon Fibre Plating
  • 240 Graphene
To upgrade 2 guns (randomly selected: Manticore Oppressor, Karma P-15) from 1 to 5 you need this:
  • 10 Weapon Schematic
  • 42 Manufacturing Instructions
  • 31 Compression-Liquefied Gas
  • 31 Ionised Gas
  • 80 Tungsten Carbide
  • 80 Weapon Component
  • 80 Chemical Superbase
  • 64 Microelectrode
Update 7 Jun 2021: Link added

Update 14 Jun 2021: My grind experience so far

After more than 3 weeks of intensively playing EDO, about 2 to 4 hours per day, doing about 100 missions (Restore, Reactivation primarily) and about 30 settlement loot raids (at deactivated sites, without mission) I was able to:
  • upgrade the Maverick suite from 2 to 4
  • upgrade the Executioner from 2 to 5
  • upgrade the Tormentor from 1 to 3
  • unlock Domino Green
  • got the backpack extension for the Maverick suite
  • collected 4 (four!) Opinion Polls
At settlements I "relogged" once. For Manufacturing Instructions I relogged extensively. For Power Regulators I take Restore missions and abandon them. Currently, I'm missing Suite Schematics and Ionised Gas. Not to speak about all those funny things that you need in ridiculous large numbers to unlock engineers.

Don't get me wrong I like the settlement missions and the other EDO surface sites. I don't like the leg shooting. I also think it's ok that FDev designed the grind to let the player get to know every part of Odyssey. Though, in its current form the grind is massive and not balanced. This will not attract a lot of new players.

For the time being I'll just ignore the engineer unlock.

I don't understand why High Tech stations don't routinely sell G2/3/4/5 souits and weapons. If you can afford them you should be able to buy them. Empty, so you will still have to grind to get the mods to the suits, but why is it so random to simply buy them?
Given how many pilots are billionaires it seems bonkers that we don't just get the option to purchase the higher grades (at the appropriate stations).

Actually there are higher levels for sale but extremely rare and limited.

See https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/the-great-pre-upgraded-gear-sharing-is-caring-thread.576352 for details.

But yes, the grind is extreme here

I've just upgraded all 3 suits to G5. Also 2 guns. So I don't really understand your claim. I think instead of crying here you can go and farm.

And there is the attitude that FDev hope for... It's not grind if you're willing to just sit and farm the components... Farming is not really gameplay, is it? Sittting constantly re-logging to build up stock... It's not playing the game.

I wonder why would one grind/upgrade Artemis suit. Just buy one grade 3 and forget it. The biologist game play is just a joke.

And if you need to upgrade just 2 weapons, be sure to go for Manticore Executor and Manticore Tormentor. You really want to have those plasma accelerators in a game of paper/rock/scissors.

I think they disabled the relogging thing with the last patch...

But as a explorer myself, I would rather pay a horrendous sum ingame for a fully updated suite than doing pew pew, it just does not interest me that much.

Fdev: No you will not play other games! You will play our game exclusively! And we shall do this by introducing an insane amount of materials needed to get all your suits and weapons to the highest levels. On top of that, you will have to gather materials so that engineers can make the mods and equip them to your suits and weapons. And you not be able to undo the engineering. If you want a new mod for your suit or weapon, you will have to get a new weapon, unlock the slots and do it all over again.

Me: Oooo look, Mass Effect:Legendary Edition, MechWarrior 5, Heroes of the Inner Sphere...oh wow, beta testing for American Truck Simulator multiplayer just started. Subnautica:Below Zero...waves as I go to play other games

Fdev: HAH! You'll be back...won't you?

I know. I monitor that thread constantly and am looking for a G2+ Maverick suit. My arguement is more about why is it so random? Why are there not high tech stations that just sell them as standard?

Imho, it's an attempt at bringing in what they were originally aiming for with ships and modules: have people visit various places, make notes, and be happy to find that rare item on sale, instead of flying to Diaguandri/Shinrarta and getting everything there, making stock variations semi-irrelevant.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about it over the long term as we'll only ever need so many suits, but for now, I won't lie, I'm enjoying the casual shopping and sharing on the other thread.

Absolutely fine - I would rather jump in my engineered ASP with set of higher suits and head back out deep into the unknown where I have been hiding and roaming the last 7 years.

This is just another reason that we should be able to not only trade materials but also buy them. Both the new ones as well as the old ones.
Honestly, I would like to do missions for matterials. However the RNG of what will be the reward and the laughable quantity will usually make me look for other ways.

In general on-foot game play for now exist for three reasons:
1. To grind stuff for upgrades of on foot gear.
2. To grind some meaningless ranks.
3. Immersion.

Maybe the game play will come after the actual release in 6-12 months.

And to max out an Anaconda, Cutter and Corvette you need a lot of rank grind, three billion credits and 150 of all materials. Does this sound daunting to you?
