Gtx 1080 ti Elite Dangerous

First things first.
Why on gods green earth do you buy a keyboard without numpad.

Well I have more desk space, maybe for joysticks and throttles and such.

Numpad is a legacy thing really isn't it. For when you're putting in numbers like a till operator.

Everything on the numpad is essentially a duplication of other keys already on the keyboard.

Also laptops tend not to have them, so it's not particularly uncommon.

You still have arrow keys and the keys above.

Got my TI yesterday, together with an Accelero Hybrid water cooling system. IMHO water cooling is much better for overclocking than air. Got the card to 2 GHz GPU and 6 GHz RAM, consistently delivers 90 FPS no matter where you are. Used the settings provided above by Twisted Melon. Just throwing it out for those waiting for the usual OC air cooled versions following the FE.

Update: well, it drops to 70 FPS when landing at settlements...

I'm very curious to hear overclocking experience on this board -- I'm one of the idiots who splurged for titans (in sli, no less, and in December), and the only saving grace I've been hearing is that they overclock better -- marginally-- than ti's. I'm consistently getting 2.2 on both my titans, wondering if that will hold true as we see more ti numbers.

Good choice on water --- once you go liquid, you'll never go back.

Well, since my 1080 TI founders edition arrived mid week and was installed yesterday, i take the freedom to confirm the OPs statements...

I used VR Ultra as a base setting, then turned everything off to on and pushed all sliders not already maxed to the right... supersampling down to 1.0 and HMD quality up to 1.5... and regardless where you are - inside stations, on planetary surfaces, in crowded asteroid fields, the performance is butter smooth throughout, to quote the OP here. Also depths perception increased a lot, as you can now spot tiny details up to several kilometers away. The materials and surfaces, the effects, everything...

So far, i have only tested Elite Dangerous with it, but i am looking forward to try Robo Recall and Project CARS today... i did expect a lot, but not what i got. If you think about a new graphic card for VR, there is really only one choice. Coming from a GTX 970, the difference was absolutely stunning. I guess, when coming from a 1080 it will be just a few extra frames, but man... This card is worth every single cent.

I am almost ready to do a faustian deal, inow buying on a finance deal, this card: https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GTX_1080_Ti_Strix_OC/3.html
And a kaby lake based machine to put it in...

Just something to think about -- I'm allfor going overboard on hardware, but remember that the 1080s (non-ti's) are also fantastic cards, will be able to run elite with zero issues at ultra settings, and have just been given a price drop by nvidia. Just saying (but if I were in your position, I'd go for the TI myself.)

I confirm. Got mine today, cranked up to VR Ultra, 1.5 HMD, 1.0 SS, and it is awesome :)

The clarity and depth of field increase is marked! Just to follow up I think my optimum settings are 1.7 pixel override (hmd setting in Elite only does 0.5 increments) in the debug and 1x SS 1x HMD quality - I've got a hybrid cooler turning up tonight so will see how far I can go with a better overclock.

Waiting patiently to order the 1080ti, but right now they are all sold out everywhere! Heard though new stocks arrive on March 25?! Not going to pay the inflated prices...., but once ordered, then will have a 970 OC on Craigslist market!

Awesome. I was able to get 2.2+ ghgz on my core with a hybrid cooler -- Iforget the conversion, but I was able to set afterburner to +220 on clock, and around 210 on memory. I'm going to try and break my firestrike ultra score tonight.

What percentage load are you seeing in afterburner when you're running elite? I never overclock when running elite, as I hardly tax one of my cards more than 30%-- I didn't think elite was that taxing a game. Would be interesting to see the load elite puts a Ti vs. a Titan.

ALso, have you done any benchmarks? Ti's are slowly starting to make their way into the top 100 on 3dmark, but the list is still dominated by titans (except k[ngp]n, but he gets told what card to benchmark). out of the top 100 single card scores for timespy, for example, there's only around 9 or so ti's, which which at least lends some anecdotal support for the theory that titans are "binned" better than the ti's. Would love to see stats of a "normal" ti, and not someone that's being paid and using an Ln setup.

When you say buttery smooth, do you mean "buttery smooth once it's loaded all the assets"?

I have a far more modest RX480 on one machine and GTX970 on another and they both run 1080p high settings (but I turn off blur, bloom and DoF) at 60+ fps.

The problem is that whenever I zone into a new instance it judders like crazy for about 5-10 seconds, and I assumed it was just the game since my PC's are both quad-core i7's with 32GB RAM and elite is running from SSD on both....

With either the GTX 970 or RX 480 you can expect to get judder at some point in ED, especially if your settings (which you failed to mention) are too enthusiastic. Owners of GTX 1080s can get judder, which is why we all want to see how much we can expect from the 1080ti before mortgaging the house.

yeah, don't pay a dime over retail--- within a month these will be commonplace, and you'll kick yourself.

Mortgage the House??? The wife is going on the streets first!

Hi guys

I've been pondering what to do about my Titan XP situation - I noticed on eBay that they are still fetching £ 800+ so thought I may sell it before the price drops further and purchase a AIB 1080ti.

I've been looking at the Asus Strix and the Inno3d IChill series so far.

My question to those who may know is this ........ the Titan XP using a 6 & 8 pin power connector (as does the Ichill) but the Asus uses 8 & 8 pin. Obviously I already have a 6/8 pin cable but also recall having another which I used when I was using 980ti's in SLI. If I went for the Asus - could I use the 8 pin from EACH different cable, leaving the 6-pins hanging loose (or tied up) or does the power have to come from the same lead irrespective of whether 6/8 or 8/8 etc?

Any help/advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

I am not 100% certain if this answers your question but...

when I upgraded to a 1080 I first used two seperate powercables (Corsair RM650i modular PSU). That worked just fine.
