Uninstalled, Left some groups, moving on from Elite... At least for a while.
No, you can't have my stuff (only because it isn't a feature lol).
Why?

Its no secret that the game hasn't lived up to all of its hopes and dreams, but there really isn't any sign that its going to magically turn around either.
So until that changes, I'm going into retirement as a pilot.
Exhibit B:
I've really run out of things to do. The worst thing I did in game was buy and engineer a Cutter. Once you reach the end of the line, there's not much else to do.
I've been to The Center, I've discovered ELW's, I've fought pirates for hours, I've smuggled slaves, I did the pre-3.0 rank grind, I explored Thargoid and Guardian ruins, I've cleared my save twice for kicks, and I fought Ed in a CQC livestream. I even survived CG's to buy an Anaconda in 5 months.
I haven't gone to Beagle Point because I refused to watch that many episodes of Star Trek lol.
I also never combat logged, never used "credit exploits", or "griefed".
So yeah, I think I've earned a break. I'll probably redownload the game later on and do a fresh start.
See you in a few months (years?), I guess?
The only time i've done an "I quit" thread it wasn't even negative. Still enjoyed the game, but i'd burnt out devving for it and lost my will to play... and ED had come along![]()
For some, no doubt.
.... actually, is someone not developing just such a game?

I took an almost 8 month break from burn out, so I get where you're coming from, OP. Put it up for 6-12 months and go play some of those games that have been gathering dust in your library, then check back to see what's new here. That's what I did, finally played through a bunch of stuff I'd been ignoring, and now I'm having fun in ED again. It's a cycle.

Yeah, I'm not even considering this a rage quit.
More like a boredom quit.
I login, find nothing to do, and leave. Might as well force myself to wait a while.
I remember a guy on Steam who had a whole library of unplayed/barely played games.
I guess we all know someone like that.
If that wasn't in VR then I'd start over with a headset instead of moving on. Do that and you'll never leave![]()
I get bored.. I leave... then I come back.. Happened many times.
I've never made a thread on this forum to tell the world that I was leaving.
Might have been me, haha. I have nearly 300 games I rarely touch because of my ED addiction, so my recent break was great to catch up on some of them. Gems such as GTAV/Subnautica/Neirs Automata/Dark Souls III and many others that were languishing. Now that I've restarted playing ED, I'm constantly reminding myself to take breaks and play other games, too, and not fall back into the old cycle.
One thought that I had concerning the OP mentioning that getting the Cutter was kind of the final straw for him; I always take pleasure in any new ship that I get, but there is no true "end game ship" for me that would ruin the experience of the game because I'd reached a point of final achievement. And certainly not a big ship, because they're boring in terms of flight mechanics, and the lowest skill ships in the entire game. The thing that has always engaged me and kept me coming back for more was the content that I have yet to fully master: flying & combat mastery. My advice to the OP whenever he comes back would be to ditch the big ship, go small or medium class, permanently turn off Flight Assist, learn fixed weapons and engage with PvP-that's good for a few thousand more hours right there.
I never understood the unistall thing, have all these people got tiny HD's or somthing.
Some people need to have other people reaffirm and support their decisions and often lack the self confidence to make “life changing” decisions by themselves.
It’s also a Facebook thing.
I think with some people its a demonstration thing. "This game is so bad that i have to unistall it!". For some people though i think its because they install their most played games to a SSD so space can be a premium. My SSD has only room for a few games, but one is GTA, which takes an insane amount of room. Haven't played it for ages though. What i could do though is move the files to another disk and move another game onto it. Steam even has a feature to move games to other locations and retain a working installation.
But yeah, no point uninstalling unless you really know you will never play a game again unless you really need that space.
Nice to let us know...and happy trails camper...but is "Played game a long time...going to play something else for a change...maybe pick this up again after the next big update..." worthy of a forum thread...if everyone that did that posted here...there'd be no space for other threads!
Yeah but "most people" are not one of the most popular ED video makers on the internet. DTEA almost gave up on i recently, Cmdr Plater was complaining about FDEVS lack of interest in the community, and Obsidian Ant has been very critical of late. Maybe FDEV will take note if these people are giving up, and it's probably a sign of things to come. Many peoples sense of community in the Solo modes can still come form the wider online community. If that stops creating content, it has a knock on effect. These people also have FAR more capacity to influence others than say, one random forum poster. This is true for any game, not just Elite.
I think his reasons for uninstalling were pretty clear when he did a ten minute video trashing the games progress over the last 2.5 years... I don't think it was because he was "out of disk space". He probably uninstalled so he doesn't burgle anymore of his time trying to extract some value out of the experience.
People said the same thing about "word of mouth" advertising years ago... and it's apparent by the actions of most companies they could really care less for their "image" in the eyes of consumers these days. They do what they will, and regardless of venue (spoken, written, video, etc.) they simply weather the storm as it were.
Saturation, perhaps?
FD needs to stop catering to the few who are consistently and constantly unsatisfied, and focus on improving aspects of the game that will retain players. As I've said previously- they need to stop shooting at moving targets. If the game is attractive enough- people will play and continue to do so.
Everyone, I'm leaving.
