Guess what's back....

I remember being slightly disappointed when I discovered that the colouration on Space Invaders was due to some green and yellow cellophane over bits of the screen, which was then reflected in a mirror to show to the player. It was somehow like “looking behind the curtain” for an 11 year old at the time :D
SPOILER ALERT !! :(:( 53 and upset !

I like the way the forums change W.T.F into "what are you doing" :)

Oh man. You done it now.

Pitfall.

You just sent my arm back into the 80's spasms and stigmata on the palms of my hands caused by the awesome atari joystick....

Damn you daley thompson and your decathalon. Damn you for that joystick wibbling marathon I say.

Pitfall was actually quite nice. As for Decathlon, a minute of silence for all the joysticks it broke, and for glorious half razor-blade fix...
😇

What was that red joystick that you held in one hand and twiddle the thing with the other? (Atari/Amega days)
Ergonically designed I think you'd call it.
As, opposed to a stand on the desk joystick.
Loved that bloody thing.

Never saw that one. And I even had the weird "eagle looking" "gamepad" with blue-and-red buttons which is in the middle here (random forum thread, not mine):

But the strongest were the square ones on the bottom left. You could hold them in one hand and bash that Decathlon records with the other. Also they were built to withstand an elephant handling them... The one next to them, model Joy Stick 123 was the one which was easily repairable by a razor-blade if the contact plate broke. Later when microswitches come around with constantly breaking springs, we used springs from ballpens or toys to repair them :D

As for Elite, my first contact with it was on the Amiga with Frontier: Elite 2 (not First Encounters).

Turned this topic into a good nostalgia one... I played the original elite on both BBC & Atari ST - I liked the ST best.
Yeah that thread has taken a different turn, but for the better, methinks :D And if the mods stretch a bit, the name of the topic (topic of the topic?) fits ;-) so our offtopic has become ontopic :D [I'll go to sleep now, it's clearly sleep deprivation talking].

I seem some weird in my time, but...

:)

Nice pic :)

Oh no, FD saw a problem and introduced a temporary fix.

The game is doomed, FD are cheats, DBOBE is the devil, Chris Roberts is the saviour of all mankind, Star Citizen will eventually be released, Space Engineers is the best space game every (if only it would get it's own forum so we don't have to read about it in here - but I digress), NMS is a graphical masterpiece ….yep feel free to add whatever accolades or criticism you wish.

All I see is FD trying to fix a problem before it got too widespread. And it seems they have done that because I am not seeing the forum full of players complaining that the mission board is borked.

Im sure there's a word for what you just did there but i can't put my finger on it.

In times like this, objective honesty helps, and just focus on nothing but the game will always keep you on the right track.

Man, that track takes me back.
I ran stage monitors for Lisa Gerrard on a couple of tours back in the naughties.

The show was like a psychadelic slow burn, especially when the LD got his full lighting rig.
She's kind of a spiritualy nourishing performer.
Great stuff.

I am so envious! Was that on the Silver Tree tour? You weren’t by any chance on the DCD tour in 2005 in Europe..? I would happily listen to her night after night :)

I don't know that the tour had a name. I didn't load up on merch.

I did '07 and '09, and moved to Darwin in '10, which was kind of the end of my pro-audio career. '09 would have been the next album so uh, (google) no I don't remember that cover. Must have been Silver Tree. (Check's Black Opal's credits) yup that's the creative team that was on the tour, the album they did when they got back.
In '07 I think she was establishing herself as a solo artist. At the time she swore black and blue that she'd never work with Brendan again so I never had anything to do with DCD. Her management always knew DCD could fill bigger venues and kept their eyes open for opportunities to reconnect. I think once she'd proven she could go it alone, they made up and started touring again. They were both kinda living off the DCD material anyways, and her having to sing the Song of Sophia night after night was really demanding. As an artist you're super exposed on a song like that, but you have to give it - its what the audience has come for. Being in a band definitely spreads the work around. But yeah it was a cool time to be a sound tech, artist needed every second day off, new cities everywhere, fancy arts center halls at a hundred euros a seat, Heritage 3000 consoles, luxury tour bus, boutique hotels, the full box and dice.

For some reason this Robert Smith interview catches the mood:

Jeeze that ended up being a brag post, but it was a nice reminisce.
