I've got this issue too! Used to make around 300k a year, now I'm down to 50k.

Most guest's only see the habitats close to the entrance. They spend the time they got to mostly eat and drink..

I suppose this can be solved with the train/cable car.
Walking is tiring and wastes a lot of time.
Your guests are already in your zoo for many zoo years! Help them out

Check in the list of places these guests have visited. If they are like all similar cases I’ve seen so far, the list contains only shops. They walk from one shop to the next because they are thirsty and/or hungry and find long lines everywhere. So they move on to the next shop. Same story. And on and on until they have used up the amount of time allowed them by the zoo mechanics. Maybe Frontier made a change that limited the time guests would stand in line before moving on to avoid that they would get all mad about the long lines. Which would be a good thing, but if they can’t find a shop without long lines, they just keep walking back and forth between shops.

The refunds in my zoo cause by unhappy guests was not that large, around 15,000. But enough to bother me. At that time, I only had exhibits and just put in the fourth habitat. One foodcourt was at the hub where all guests had to pass. Lots of guests for the small size of the zoo. Long lines at the shops (multiple drinks and food shops).

After I expanded the zoo and added a second large food court at the end of the expansion, no more guests (that I saw) regretting they had to leave, and refunds down to 2-300/year.

same thing here.
Franchise Mode I was at 3,2m $ - havend played in 2 weeks, came back, changed literally nothing (only removed lions) now I played 2 hours and I am down to 1,2m $ how is that even remotely possible? They did something weird to the game that effects existing parks. They leave with FULL!! green bars ! I am at 90k refund per year.

They want to see a specific animal, go see it after 29minutes and leave - what the heck? All my animals in the park are golden !!!

Reasoning?
A statement from Frontier would be nice.

I have the same issue, it has come after the update.

Had £1m in the bank now got less than £200k, unwilling to play this now as the zoo is now unplayable. Spent hours building the zoo and feels wasted, second time this has happened (first one unrelated, file wont open anymore).

So basically the game have a billion shops so you are crippled by staff costs, or don't and you are crippled by refunds or just don't build a zoo bigger than 3/4 exhibits.

I was enjoying this game....but lately it feels like a waste of time.

Yes... There are already different reports about this issue.

Guests will leave your zoo and request refunds if they can't get to where they were trying to go within a certain amount of time. Usually they will hit pit stops along the way and randomly change their destination a dozen times before they get there. I've been doing experiments on guest happiness for the past two weeks and have hit at least a dozen snags and reasons that guests can walk out of the zoo unhappy or demand a refund even when they are happy. I finally reached what I believe to be a stable and conclusive verdict on how it works, though if it really is just an issue that affects existing zoos I'm not sure I can help. Regardless, maybe this video can at least help you guys understand how the system is supposed to work. Even with all of that ironed out there were still guests that I followed for their entire visit that would just make really dumb pathing choices (like walking all the way across the zoo for a burger). In bigger zoos this is probably much, much, more prevalent, but it can be at least partially alleviated with proper planning (I talk about all that in the video).

Edit: if this is the same bug as what happened in 1.3 then we are all screwed and need to just wait for Frontier to fix it anyway, but I've not had any issues with the zoos I've created since the patch.

Or even before... I have guests leaving after 15-20 minutes, having visited only a couple of shops and maybe one enclosure, with all their needs and thoughts in green, except for the complaints about not having stayed longer to see X animals...

I can only add that I've seen this issue as well after the most recent patch. I'm currently trying to see if there are aspects of this that I can change, but if there's something wrong with the coding/algoritm or whatever's causing the guest AI to behave weirdly then we can only wait and see how this gets resolved.

I have been watching my guest happiness closely. I put on the guest heat map to see where they are getting in the "red". For some reason, my guests that are unhappy are re-spawning at the entrance already red and going back into the zoo unhappy. It goes in waves that most of my guests are in the green and happy so that one year I had only $90 in refunds, then as I am watching them in the heat map, a bunch of groups of guest turn red instantly and my refunds jump to over $10,000. This has to be a glitch since it makes no sense. I was so excited for this game after playing ZT since it has come out. But this game has serious programming issues.

Really confused by what you mean by your guests 'respawn' at the entrance? This sounds like there is an issue which is causing them to get stuck and respawn? If a 'bunch' of guests turn instantly red, there is a cause for it. Do you know how happiness works? Watching your guests happiness is one thing, are you actually doing anything to fix it?

I am still not sure there is much of a new issue, these messages are just showing the reasons why guests are unhappy, where as pre patch it wasnt.

I do think there is an issue with the game at patch time, that give a temporary shock to all zoos, as i always find my zoo loses my for a year or so after the patch but I always manage to pull it around.

One thing i would say, a lot of people are seem very keen to simply blame the game when their zoos go wrong. After patch 1.0.3 my zoo at the time went bankrupt, rather than come on here moaning I decided to make a new zoo which focused on guest happiness. It worked.......... i now have a 9000 guest zoo where pretty much everything works on autopilot.

I get the "guest respawns" at entrance in all my zoos as well. It's not massive numbers of them, and it's not a refund or happiness issue for me. But, when I park the camera at the zoo entrance in order to catch visitors either coming or leaving to check thoughts, pretty regularly a visitor group will appear out of thin air that is not a "new" visitor group to the zoo.

I'm usually parked there to get them as they are coming in to adjust ticket prices, so it's very apparent when they are not new visitors. They don't get a new thought about ticket prices, and already have a bunch of thoughts about things deeper into the zoo.

I don't have any pathing issues in any of my zoos and I've never been able to figure out why some visitors are teleporting to the entrance like that. I also don't have any refund issues and those visitors always just go right back into the zoo to spend more money, so I've never really worried about it. But it happens in literally all of my larger zoos.
