GUIDE: Planet sounds and how to know everything from System Map.

The dev replied they will look into the the planet sound disappearing when FSD is charging. It seems it's not intended. Probably one of the next patch will fix the issue.
Still, if somebody want to go there and say they experience the same thing, anything more than just only one voice will help speeding up the process. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=227613&p=3482418#post3482418
Thanks everyone!

Well this explains why I've never heard the sounds before! I've ALWAYS been charging FSD when looking at sys map. But now that I've slowed down a bit, I am hearing them for the first time.

Has anyone else noticed that the volume of these sounds has decreased since yesterday's patch?
Will check it out. Usually to have the max volume for planet sounds you have to zoom in completly on the planet, but it is very possible that the patch altered something.
Thank you for having reported this here.

Just a note - pay attention to ELW sounds, and see if there is something different about any of them. Seems Mr. Braben has mentioned we should be listening to ELW sounds more closely.

I did have a good listen to an ELW I found tonight, and it did sound like I heard radio transmission type noises along with the birds, but I need to listen to other ELW planets to see if I am just imagining things...

They always had a sort of growing tune that sounded artificial, I stressed the bird chirping becouse it is quite unique.
OFC I'll listen to one of the ELW I've already scanned. I fear the day there will be an all out overhaul, i really hope they'll change sounds one bu one :)
Zeeman, you are precious as usual.

Listen to them as in: "they sound nice now", or as in: "have you tried listening to them (tm)........... dun.. dun.. dunnnnnnnnnn!"

I hadn't heard him say this.

Bwahhahahahhahah! Careful Akira, those nicknames tend to stick...

Well, I did get the info third hand, on Discord, though it did sound like the "Listen more closely™...Dun dun duuuuuuuuuun!!!!" way of listening.

I really can't hear the chirping or bubbling in the YouTube videos at all. :/ Is it a high frequency? do have some hearing loss and I'm wondering if it's that, or if I need to tinker with my settings more somehow. Not being an audiophile by any means, I don't generally pay all that much attention to audio, though this sort of thing is an impressive detail. While I won't be crushed at missing out on this aspect of the game, it'd be nice if I could "get t" since Elite clearly paid attention to many small details, making audio reasonably important in-game.

The "chirping" and "bubbling" are subtle.. just as easily identified by the "tune" they play.. having said that, once you've identified the sounds, they are pretty much un-mistakable for ELWs, WWs and AWs :)

OK, thanks. I'll do more listening a little later and see if I can "find" the subtleties in there with some headphones on. I turned my volume way up before, as I usually play without a headset. It sounds as though once heard, you can no longer unhear it so perhaps that's a better way to go for me. Thanks!

I've made a tool for you explorers that would like to have a bit more interactivity when trying to figure all this out. I've taken huge inspiration from the amount of meticulous work put in by CMDR Akira and associates when doing this.

Just tell me what you think after having had a look at http://www.objectscanner.net/

If you find this useful at all I'll try and spend more time into expanding the catalog to make it more complete and also mobile-friendly.

CMDR SHELLSTROM

Please develop

I've currently replaced all the original graphics and sounds I found with self made alternatives, as they are much higher resolution coming from within the game itself. I'm currently working on the catalog for all of the planet types, because I'd like to present different variants of the same planet types.

If you have any feedback on this, don't hesitate to shout.

Until next time, CMDRs!

Annnd, we are now more mobile friendly!
Also, added Cr-values for the different bodies, which should help out in determining if the trips are worth it or not. :)

Until next time, CMDRs

What a great tool, thanks,

I've been listening to the planets for a while and use it as a reliable method to isolate water worlds.

A couple of times I've come across High metal worlds which seem to have an increasing beat. I've yet to figure out why they are different.

Also do you think there might be any relevance to the occasional noises the Galaxy map makes? There is a repeating radio static noise when you roll around it. Never been able to pin it down to a specific star but in the back of my mind I can't help thinking its a signal of something, like maybe a close black hole or neutron star maybe.

Or giant space cockroaches.

Heavy metal world? Or Thrash metal?

I always attributed the odd galaxy noise to passing the cursor over a star

I believe that what you should listen to is the actual planet, not system map. As far as I know, the system map is always the same. The planets themselves don't always sound the same though. This is a horrible recording (iphone from speaker, because I didn't have any direct recording method setup), but you can sort of hear what sounds like radio chatter: http://ookla.d.pr/pK45

Note that I listened to three different ELWs and they all had that chattering. I doubt it means sentient species, but it sure as heck makes me think that it is distorted radio communication (space madness - 53000 ly from Sol).

The sounds weren't identical between the three planets I've listened to so far, but shared similar roots.
