Guide / Tutorial Guide To Missions

I am having a very hard time getting to solar systems to drop off supplies bought for missions. I have no routes to get there and it seems impossible to figure out. I'm lost in the galaxy map.

Set the navigation in the galaxy map to fastest routes before you do anything else, search for the destination and if it's less than 100 light years the map will plot a route but it takes time, if you zoom out you will see the links building between systems on the map. Be patient and wait for the plot route graphic to turn white on the destination.

Faction

Hi guys!

I just started playing ED and i love it:)

I need help with somthing, i wanna do some works fro the federation so i can gain access to SOL system, but when i go to bulletin board and look for missions i cant see what faction it is for, how do i know who i am doing the job for?

sorry for my english btw:)

Great guide! Thanks for posting.

I thought I'd contribute a brief observation regarding smuggling missions...

Upon performing Tier 2 smuggling mission (Prototype Tech, Alient Artefacts, Artwork) I've noticed that unlike Tier 1 there are usually not enough of the material (assuming required item count is 2 or more) at a single USS spot and you have to go searching for others. This has happened on all the Tier 2 missions I've tried so far. This creates an added difficult as it increases chances that system security will jump in and perform a scan (this has happened once) as well as running into profitibility over time issues given the extra searching.

A useful tip if folks have figured something out would be to determine how to most quickly (i.e., visit the fewest USS spots) collect all the needed Tier 2 goods for a Tier 2 smuggling mission.

Hi Kevin,

I'll be expanding this with basic galaxy map info soon, but be sure to check the navigation tab. Once there you can type in the system name you are looking for, then have the map plot a route for you. If you do this you will have the each step automatically marked as you jump into the next system in the list. If you are going farther than the system will plot for you (something like 75LY) you'll need to segment your journey. Just search for your destination then rotate the map around so you can see your starting point, which will still be marked. Then move the map slowly back towards the starting system until you find a system in the intervening space that you can plot to. Once you've reached that point just go back to the map and search for the system you'd been trying to get to and plot a course there. If it's still too far just repeat the previous step.

Let me know if I've misunderstood your question.

That's interesting. I nearly always get the full number I need, but there have certainly been more than one occasion where this came up for me as well so I'll indeed expand the section to include this info. I'm betting that it is a % chance that governs this, I had thought it was weighted to include exactly what you need but perhaps given your experience I have just been extremely fortunate.

Hi Ranjdar,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to your question. I had started replying the other day but got interrupted. You can find the information via your right system panel. You will find the local reputation information there and it will include the information on the allegiance of the factions in your current system. Once you've figured out who the 'good' guys are (for what you want anyway) start doing missions for them and you'll build up reputation.

After your rep is high enough you'll be offered a 'Rank' mission. I have most often gotten an 'invitation' mission after completing one of the rank missions, and the invitation missions are the ones which include a system permit (I've gotten 5 or so this way thus far).

Your english was fine, thanks for the question!

I've been noting that the Max distance even on fastest routes is about 70ly for both my Cobra and my Lakon-6, not that the distance is a function of the ship you're in. Maybe this was changed from 100 recently but I constantly have to halve my jumps due to the ~70ly limit. -EDIT- Last night I upgraded my FSD to a class A and was able to plot 100LY jumps so perhaps this is indeed a function of your drive.

Nice guide, I'm wondering though if you have figured out or have a base line on the results of doing missions
For doing mission X and your standings with faction Y will improve and/or you lose standings with faction Z.

I haven't checked whether this has already been suggested, but could you please add a warning to the Assassination missions description stating that those targets will most likely be high ranking NPC pilots in heavily armed Anacondas?

I will have to go back and make sure that it is noted, thanks for the feedback

Nice guide. In bounty hunting mission section I have a tip for "hunt authority" and "hunt bounty hunter" mission types.

Tip for hunt authority:
do this mission at a station owned by a smaller faction, kill traders and authority ships belonging to the faction that owns the station will arrive. Bonus that you will not get system-wide bountys. And,if the system owner gave you the mission, you won't have to kill ships belonging to the faction you work for.

Tip for hunt bounty hunters:
Get a bounty from a smaller faction in the system. Goto nav beacon and bounty hunters will try to kill you. They become wanted in the process allowing you to kill them without getting a bounty.

I thought the hunt authority/bounty hunters missions given by the authority was a bugged mission until I figured this out.
