Never considered if Onionhead was related to the UAs, the UA being from the opposite direction to Onionheads original world
The bombing of Panem was conducted by Admiral Vincent, Hudson's ally, as a way of undermining Halsey's Authority and support.

Given the original S&R of Starship One failed, and the independent investigation of the wreckage failed, we may never know the truth.

With the ease at which Halsey could have suffered a further accident when her life pod was discovered, I doubt she has any information that will threaten Hudson's position.

Miraculous high profile survivor with now limited political support and power, seems like a poor choice for an Agent be it Thargoid or otherwise.

This isn't about Thargoids, it is about a shadow faction like the INRA or Dark Wheel showing their influence by eliminating or incapacitating
key figures in the political landscape, while shoving it under the table of other politicians they have allready intimidated.

Yes well, we don't know who Hudson made deals with to get power, or if he is just a useful puppet for someone else.
The Thargoid comment was in reference to the OP's post "there's no way her DNA isn't swimming with Thargoid modifications, just waiting to open some door or disable some crucial defense system ahead of an invasion. "

We had an incident with the Starship One making Halsey vanish,
the high profile researcher Palin vanished, too.
We have a dead emperor, and afaik there has been no real info on his sickness.

I'd bet some credits on the former emperor being infected with cerberus, too.
A lot of loose ends are still not looked upon,
even if a faction does produce the "return of Halsey and thousands of other people",
those thousands are easily bought from certain factions.

If i am correct we have two leaders (Hudson / Lavigny Duval) who are
strongly leaned towards a military theme, while the socially oriented
leaders of the two major powers are left in the backyard.

Here's what I think.

Halsey will become a Power. There will be a debate about procedure and whether she can reclaim her Office; she won't be able to, so instead she'll become a Power, probably taking territory at the nexus of Hudson, winters, and the Empire systems with heavy Fed minor faction influence. That will help balance out the number of Fed vs Empire Powers. I think Halsey will be combat focused which will come as a surprise to people, but we'll see some strange decisions and odd moves coming from her via Galnet ... until ... it is Revealed that she's been converted or is otherwise under the control of an alien intelligence, making way for Season 3: Invasion!

*Though, on second thought, maybe an Exploration ethos makes more sense if she's under alien control ... trying to gather as much information about us as she can ... hmm

Here's what I think.

Halsey will become a Power. FD mentioned about maybe raising one of the minor factions that control 8 or more systems to a Power. At the time, Sirius Corp was the leading contender, then FD gave away some of their systems to player minor factions.
So if a minor faction is going to be raised to a power, they will need a leader.

Well I do not think Hasley is a Thargoid agent (too invasion of the body snatchers) and Hudson and Sirius Corp cannot be trusted. I lean towards her being taken out by the military industrial complex rather than alines. Same "accident" as Antares The fact that here vice president Smeaton was allegedly murdered by the same power (according to his widow) for researching the Antares incident - and the condolences message from a member of Hudson's party before Smeaton's death was made public - then the murder of that reporter. Too much coincidence and beginning to sound like a plot hole from Dynasty (I seem to remember someone got kidnapped by aliens in that)!

There is clearly another power "working in the background" - ready for FD to elevate. Best don the tin foil hat and trust no-one.

On another note I might actually play PP if Hasley was a power. Cannot stand Hudson, and Winters well a media type - keep thinking of Maxwell and Murdock. Shudder!

Open what? I doubt if thargids exist they would need such infiltration system. Any race that isn't a stupid cluster of internal conflicts as mankind could rollover mankind in a short time while mankind itself still tries to figure out who elses power work that was.

Why would she resume power though? It was just prior to the accident that she was removed from power via a vote of no confidence after that bit of chaos with the onionhead and bombing farmers. It would be akin to say ficticious example here... reinstating George W. Bush if after being impeached for, say a bombing campaign that went awry and instead of hitting an Al'quadea in Afghanistan the military bombed a poppy farming camp in Pakistan and then air force one had gone down under mysterious circumstances. Would you in that situation be clamoring for George W. To be reinstated if after a year he was found alive in the wreckage of air force 1?

As for the battleships, it's likely a direct response to inteligence received from the wreckage of SS1, or has something to do with the attacks on Federal battle-groups by pirates that have access to Farragut (or refit colony ships that have been rehulled to look like farragutts.), as well as the occasional Rogue farragut way outside federal space that just likes to shoot at anyone in the instance.
