Happy Xmas multi controller mining everyone

I understand that they want to balance multi limpet controllers so the regular ones do not remain useless, however.

I think it would have been better if the multi limpet controller had an opportunity to engineer down the weight to lighter multi limpet controller with a cost to more power draw and lower Integrity.

But that's just my opinion, of course.

What I was hoping was that we could keep the limpet modules as they are and simply bunch several of them together in a bigger slot, which currently can’t take them. For example a single size 1 collector plus size 1 prospector in a size 4 slot, or say a size 1 collector, size 1 recon, size 1 repair controller, size 1 fuel xfer in a size 6 slot, which would allow explorers a lot more flexibility, with the inherent trade-off deriving from a 64t slot being fully used for four 2t modules.
What we have, in my opinion at least, is an over-complicated useless mess, where they didn’t even get the weights right.

To the people here saying that it doesn't work for mining because limpets won't get replaced: This is only true if all active limpets are collectors. A prospector will always be replaced by another limpet. For mining in a small ship this is practical but C-rated prospectors will give only have the number of fragments compared to A-rated.

It all depends on how you use them, I have upgraded 2 of my T9 miners with the 7A MLC's, the extra weight is no problem as they are carrier based, I am still using a prospector controller so no problems there and the extra 4 limpets are reducing my collection time so there is no waiting before I move on to the next rock.

the 7c universal limpet controller is great for shieldless heat-saving ship builds
use it on my corvette with 7 mining lasers with an additional 3a prospector controller and repair after every mistake, damage with the universal controller my hull

It's not quite that bad, FYI. From the EliteMiners faq, the multipliers are:
  • E: 1.5x
  • D: 2.0x
  • C: 2.5x
  • B: 3.0x
  • A: 3.5x
So using an A-rated prospector gives a 40% yield boost over C when laser mining - substantial, but nowhere near double. Although it would be a very niche laser mining build that can't fit at least a 1A prospector.

On the other hand, as has been mentioned already, there's no prospector bonus for subsurface or core mining. There's some perfectly reasonable core builds that use the MLC for prospecting.

So of course nobody in their right minds will use them!

If it would be A-rated there would be no more use for the normal limpet controllers.

This way you get more options without making all the old modules useless. And it is still 20+ fragments. Not everyone wants to be maxing out. It is a nice option for "I want everything in one ship"-builts because it saves me one slot.
