Real World Theme Parks Have you ever experienced a break down during a ride?

I went to soft opening for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood and got stuck facing one of the Dementors. I went on it again and got stuck in the projections domes and in the bottom left side I see a vomit stain.[blah]

Yeah, I wonder how many Theme Park simulation game players who actually have the patience to plan a real coaster with all the calculations. [squeeeeee]

No Limit 2 rollercoaster simulator does this quite well. An excellent Rollercoaster Simulator. It is actually quite simple in principle though, if the train can stop on a block break section, then the rest of the ride needs to be lower than that section of track for it to make it round.

I happen to miss breakdowns and incidents by a few minutes, but they compensate by being sadly spectacular. For example when a few ppl were 25 minutes on a ferris wheel having a quite impressive electrical failure. In the end they manually PUSHED the cabins to make it turn and evacuate.
Found these videos of the incident. [Video2]

I also were at Bremen Freimarkt right before, when this happened: http://www.thelocal.de/20111028/38507So yes I'm glad to always miss these things.

Edit: Did some researches. It was the worlds tallest transportable wheel until 2012. It had some more incidents, the year before it collapsed while dismantling after a fair and got damaged. In 2014 a man commited suicide by jumping down. Coincidentally, it was built in Bremen.

I got stuck on the Dragon Ride(indoor dark ride) at Legoland Discovery Center. It was stuck for 2 minutes, then the ride started up again. Other than that, I've been on fully functional rides.

I actually wanted to study that. But my math was too bad to start with the studies. So now the simulation games have to suffice. Fun fact: I'm studying to become math teacher now, lol
Well, what an ironic destiny! I hope you become a great math teacher though! [hehe]

I was evacuated off of Splash Mountain at Disneyland CA. Right before the drop too.
Oh, what happened? Did the boat get stuck up there?
It remembers me of a crazy thing happened in a FlumeRide ride in Sweden that became national news. Just before the big drop a woman got so scared she grabed the outer edges of the water runway and hold on thight. She stayed on top hanging there while the boat left and dropped down. After she looses her strength in her arms by exhaustion and letting go of her grip of the edges, she falls down by herself in the runway. And that is a quite high drop. Luckily, she survived with just minor damages. [mouth shut]

Woa, I was stuck in the queue line for the Harry Potter ride in Universal's Island of Adventures in Orlando for some time with my big brother. The ride had a big break down, the queue still moved and everybody hoped it would continue to run soon, so people stayed and so did we. For 2 hours! At least we sussed to come inside the caslte and se the classrooms and all cool scenery. And we did see a real life Harry Potter kid in the queue line just after us. xD
..until we gave up. We came back hours later the same day and used the single queue to get in the ride faster and finally was able to ride the actual ride. [rolleyes]

Never got stuck I think. Once last year or two years ago we waited a while on a holding brake for coaster but I think we went away again after 5 min or something.

But I have been twice with malfunctioning strap/restraints. First on the Simulatour (moving seats in a theater) the strap got loose so I jumped off it.

And then on a revolving ride the restraint went off so I braced myself, and put my feet on the wall in front of me while it went around. Not very fun. It is this ride:

As if a normal ride on that thing wasn't bad enough...

Broke down on the uphill of the water ride in Thorpe Park, was 30 minutes before it started moving again, was right near the top and as you know nothing to keep you held in on those rides, didn't feel too safe I must say :)

Not really a break-down, but I got to experience a roll-back on Kingda Ka. They had just restarted the ride after a quick thunderstorm came through the area and after restarting the ride they had 3 unsuccessful test runs before finally getting an empty train to clear the hill. They then allowed riders on, there were only about 15 of us waiting in the station. As we were boarding the ride op said, "yea, it's probably not going to make it first launch." Sure enough, as it launched, I knew almost immediately due to the acceleration, that it did not reach the required speed needed to clear. So backwards we went! [squeeeeee] A lot of fun! And the best part was we got to reset and launch again!

Haha yes. A few times on Rita at Alton Towers, once on Speed at Oakwood and once on Stormforce 10 at Drayton Manor.

I rode the Son of Beast @ King's Island a week before the track splintered and injured all it's riders. When I rode it I complained at how rough it was. I know the ride was always rough, but this was just.. different. And I could "Feel" the lap bars clicking tighter at each bend. I only weigh about 112 pounds (I'm very skinny for 5 foot 5), but it left a good mark on me from it getting so tight. And the part where it splintered really hurt.. left a good bruise there.

Was not surprised when I heard it broke.

Other then that the only ride I've ever been on that actually broke down mid ride was at Busch Gardens Vriginia. I can't think of it's name (roman rapids?), but it's the water ride with the waterfalls. The rapids ride.. it broke down and they had to drain the water and let us take a walkway out.. was stuck on it for a long time..

I am a ride operator myself, so I have participated in several evacuations at the park I work at, particularly on our log flume, as I rider I have been stuck on the break run on Mean Streak at Cedar Point and had to be evacuated and was evacuated off of the Beast at Kings Island as a kid.

My traumatic experience is reduced to one day not closed my insurance an attraction well and almost cole me down ( he was very thin ) .

I had to hold my hardest because I felt like I slipped ( RUBBER SEATS NOW STOP USING PLASTIC )

Well that is an interesting point of view on attraction break downs. What is the most common reason the attraction you worked on got stucked?

Last year. I got stuck on Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey at Universal Orlando. Definitely the most interesting breakdown I have been apart of considering the ride system itself. We were stuck in mid-air, facing a dementor for about 30 minutes. The lights came on, and eventually they brought the ride vehicles down to a resting position (Look up pictures on Google if interested) and we tracked out through the rest of the ride. We got to see each individual set piece as well as all the audio-animatronics and the rotating screens. Definitely an interesting way to experience the ride.

99% of the time it's just a fault in the rides computer system, and it gives us a red blinking light on the panel, and we begin evac procedures, the other 1% of the time, it's usually because someone got scared and tried to bail. lol we have a pretty legit log flume with 2 hills and people will make it to the top canal before the second hill and freak out and jump out onto the catwalk up there. Happens all the time.

Not really a breakdown..
Some guy tried to stand up in the golliath @magic mountain so they put the coaster on emergency brake. They Could not get it off the brake afterwards and after half an hour (it was 40degrees C that day) they got us all out[happy]
Best thing was we got a permit to skip the line on a ride of our choise[haha][haha] after an hour Golliath was opened again and me and bro went on it again (im the one on the right)

Yes I have in fact :p
A rollercoaster at the final breaks.. The other one couldnt be 'launched' at sufficient speed so the breaks kicked in before the first loop..

Wasn't scary for me.. And it's a great thing to see the security systems work as intended.
