Have your buying behaviours changed since Arx?

I don't find the prices off putting, but the extra step is annoying...I also tried to buy arx for the Black Friday and I was getting errors, never had any problem buying stuff before. Forgot about it and came back a couple days later and all the limited skins were gone, a little salty about that.

I guess I don't know why they didn't just keep purchasing the same but I'm sure it has something to do with getting us to purchase more...but in my case it's been the opposite. (Unfortunately 😅)

I was a random buyer and the odd impulse buyer. Now that i need to pay more up front to buy an item worth less (once converted) and the fact that prices have hiked, despite the fact that they where to expensive before ARX for what you get... has made me step back.
There are one of two items in the store now that i would have got.... but everytime i look at the ARX in the middle... i just go meh!.

for a viper Mk4 ship kit i might buy ARX.

If that fix includes removing the crazy "in your face, off into the void" depth stacking that happens in VR, I'll at least have reason to go exploring again. Until then, I'm not even sure how much I'll be playing the game outside of IIs and CGs.
I don’t remember running into that when I gave the Beta a whirl, or before that for that matter... but I have a rather unique exploration style. Are you using Oculus, Steam VR, or WMR?

Oculus. It seems clearly a Frontier design, not a Oculus bug. They reuse the two upper panels from the cockpit (info and comms) inside the FSS, with the rest of the FSS screen floating 100 miles away in the distance. It's all readable, but very disjointed and subpar. All FSS text should be on the same plane.

It does still work.. log into frontierstore.net and link your steam account (It's not in the most obvious place). Then go to arx.elitedangerous.com and log in via steam not frontierstore credentials. Unlink and relink for multiple accounts.
Yeah, just go into %appdata% download the widget from thirdparty.com.ru install the credit card to paypal automation browser plugin (it’s java so there’s a bit of stuffing round with security permissions, but it won’t take to long) and then you’ll be able to buy skins just like before.

I stopped buying anything from Frontier. Last purchase was the Corvette ship kit plus few paints BEFORE September update.

Here are my reasons:
  • With the poor quality of the September update I lost a lot of trust in them.
  • They said in 2019 they would release updates every 3-4 months, so I expected to see 3 to 4 contents update... Well we had only 2, with the next one being only a bug fix planned for Januray 2020.
  • They managed to delay Fleet Carrier again.
  • The ARX system was good when presented on paper (gain stuff by playing the game) but they put the numbers too high and this feels just like a bait now.
  • They said that the quality of the ship paint kit would have improved but I still see the same basic schemes, so I don't feel tempted at all anyway.
  • I won't buy anything until I see some new high quality content in the game and this won't happen before the New Era.

Instead, and this is ironic, in the last few days I played Star Citizen and I'm really impressed by the improved stability of the game so I think I will spend all the money that I saved by not buying any ARX on Star Citizen by upgrading my ship to a larger one.

Pros:
  • I like the new store layout and categories
  • Being able to see any ship and its customizations increases urge to buy
  • It's not intrusive (to me) and the flow is mostly good

Cons:
  • ARX point values seem exhorbitant (they're not, but big numbers are scary to me?)
  • Obscuring of dollar value to point value makes it harder for me to gauge value of the micro-transaction
  • Micro-transactions are harder (for me) because conversion isn't readily available
  • I don't trust the system as a result, curbing my desire to buy as I like information to feel 'informed' in my purchase

Overall, I definitely spend less. Some of that is because I already have skins, decals, and paints for my three favorite ships that I fly most consistently. I really want stuff for my cockpit (I bought XMAS lights two years ago? Last year?) but the point values seem way off. They're probably right, but that's what I'm getting at: the obscuring of real world cost hurts my decision power.

New players won't know any different and won't care, so I suspect this is probably an issue unique to veteran players. But, yeah, I definitely am not buying stuff like I used to. The other half of that is I play a lot less due to content drought. I can only self-entertain / RP for about six months or so before I get really bored and just play something else. So, I look forward to whenever something new comes...but...I only buy stuff for the things I fly.

And I like the cosmetics I have, so...even the store 'lacks content' in a way. That's not ARX related so much as Elite lacks diversity on the micro-transactions even.

The only thing I bought was the Mamba ship kit as a birthday gift for myself, but haven't bought a damn thing otherwise. I used to buy a lot of stuff to support the game, but since there is nothing being added to the game recently and this ARX nonsense I've spent my money elsewhere.

I've bought Arx for both my accounts, but spent the amount I'd 'put aside' for each, free Arx has increased the 'buying power' of my cash spent so no gripes. The game still keeps me very occupied and engaged so doing an annual spend on vanity items doesn't bother me.

I know mine have.

At the end of every year i bought a ton of paintjobs. May it be the Black ones from black Friday or Golden ones in the Weeks of December.
This Year i didnt buy any of those simply because of how expensive everything got. If i reach enough free ARX with the daily logins i will probably buy one with those but otherwise ill pass.
Overall i spend only a tiny fraction of the Money i usually spend on Elite per Year even though there was no shortage of stuff i would have liked to have.

Is it the Same for you or did you buy even more since Arx?
I know that, at least in my case, ARX were a shot in their own foot for Frontier.

Have a pleasant day.

Einar.
Not bought anything since Arx rolled out.
May buy stuff when there is new content but not until then.

Thank you kindly for all the answers. Its quite interesting how different everyone approaches this "topic".
The general outcome seems to be less spend money than usual wich is, at least in my eyes, a good thing.

Have a pleasant evening.
