Have your buying behaviours changed since Arx?

Actually you can choose from pounds, euros, usd, and roubles(?). They have different number values all seemingly adjusted to the pound number but depending on where you are the cross rates including the adjustment may be better. It's only a few cents but it does fluctuate.
Really, I could only pay in Pounds, as it seems FD don't recognise Aust Dollars. Funny isn't it, people complain about not knowing the exact cost of Arx but won't complain about fluctuations in exchange rates.

Just my 2p worth...
If I buy a pack of Arx at £12 (ish) I have spent exactly that amount of money, no more - no less...
What I can purchase in store with that spend depends on the Arx price, but whenever the Arx have been spent on 'goodies' whatever new stuff I have is what my 'real money' bought, obfuscated by the continuing stream of up to 400 Arx/week 'earned' as I play the game, but the initial outlay remains the same.

It is fine for those who 'just say no' for their own reasons, like fighting Thargoids, purchasing Arx is purely optional :)

I do thank those who come to the forum to inform the rest of us that we are 'cash cows' & 'whales' as the forums get so intense these days that a good belly laugh is always welcome.

Merry Christmas all... now excuse me, I have 1,000 free Arx to claim...

Today, going to arx.elitedangerous.com let's you change your currency, and steam provides the best exchange rate (It's usually exactly the spot rate, ie no spread). If you keep running a spreadsheet you can see there can be a fairly significant difference in aud depending on which bundle you're getting and what the real currency values are. Also steam has a native (frontier set?) aud price for arx now, but their price includes a markup that is well above currency converted other currencies. Easily the worst option :)

Thanks, and that is the reason why I am having trouble comprehending why so many are claiming that Arx rip's them off because they don't know the exact currency value of a single Arx. There are that many variables that it is extremely difficult to ascertain exactly what is what. And people seem to forget they are talking about cents, not dollars, not ten's of dollars, not hundreds of dollars.

They way I see it, if someone is that worried about losing 5 cents when buying a cosmetic maybe they shouldn't be buying anything at all!

Well go find my posts arx is blatantly anti consumer and you don't have to like it. It's the same annoyance as junk food getting worse and worse every year and coming with less and less in the box like clock work. Do you like that?

Anyways it's Christmas and frontier slighting us can be paused until tomorrow.

Its not "trying" to counter someone ignoring announcements and constructing fake complaints about something they claim doesn't effect them.

bullarxe.

All I need to do is keep repeating the facts, not that it'll change anything.

seems we all have our facts, as i find natural, but you seem to have a lot of problems with mine. why so defensive? if you are ok with how the game has evolved and are fine with the model then why do you need to invest so much energy making up stuff (no, arx show was never on the menu until it appeared out of nowhere. just an example) to make it seem any other opinion is alien? seems tiring, at the very least.

l like the game best I've ever played, I've no problem at all owning that. Whereas you like moaning and have to make stuff up.

It takes no effort or energy to be happy and realistic.

That's what people have been struggling for years now. Can your passion withstand things getting worse, all of them, and still remain faithful.

It's not really a specific item, but some people have a principle dislike of worsening conditions or have higher expectations from monetary or personal investment in what came before.

That's probably why you're scratching your head, since frontier woke up one day and walked down a different path of Kickstarter darling peoples lines are getting crossed.. That's what happened with me anyway.

Worse is a subjective thing. After twenty years with no decent space games at all we have ED, none of the others come close to it and we are getting more ED stuff soon (TM). The DLC release schedule had to be changed after Horizons but thankfully it was just a delay and some free stuff rather than an outright cancellation of any more content. Which would obviously have been worse than what we actually have and will get.

Just a matter of perspective.

So you raise the point that one of your complaints is that you are restricted to using Arx to purchase cosmetics, I counter your argument by correctly pointing out that prior to the introduction to Arx you had exactly the same restriction, just with a real currency - and suddenly it isn't relevant....care to explain that dichotomy?
Real money and ARX have nothing in common.

With real money I only pay for what I want to buy.

With ARX I give money that I don't want to spend.

Yes. I've got nothing new since ARX.

It's a mix of my brain seeing big obscure numbers as opposed to a small instantly understandable price, an extra step I can't be bothered with, and the knowledge that I use very little of the stuff I bought before, often just reverting to my default Tactical Graphite on most ships, which I already have for all my ships.

It is really simple, if you don't the way FD conducts business, don't buy any cosmetics. It is that damn simple. Just don't whine about it, it is your choice, no one is forcing you to do anything. The game will still run exactly the same way whether you purchase cosmetics or not, that is the beauty of the system.

so you spending hours here relentlessly nagging at any opinion that even slightly upsets your world view is being happy and realistic.

good that i'm a zen monk! ;-)

What does this have to do with people's opinions about and reactions to the change from regular currency to ARX though?

I'm currently grabbing tactical graphite with the freebies for any ships that don't have midnight black already.

I'm happy for you to be unhappy, odd that you are unhappy about me being happy. Maybe that says something about the difference between us as people, or maybe how we choose hobbies.

No it's not my choice.

Hundreds of thousands of online sales sites (millions of sites) use the real money to sell their products.

Frontier imposes the virtual money.

It's not my choice.

And yes I have the right to complain because I am a great fan of ED and of Frontier and a founding member of the Elite in the kickstarter for a substantial sum of money.

So you see this is not the money that is my problem, this is the principle and the obligation to trade, outside of conventional and Free international standards.

Yes, you certainly do have the right to complain, and I have the exact same right to take you to task for complaining about something you can avoid. Pretty simple isn't it.

Oh regarding the virtual money, you may want to check with those on console*, some of them have had to use 'Frontier Points' instead of real money since the launch of the game on the console.

* not sure which console, I am on PC so never experienced it.

I personally rather like the new system. I'm used to similar ideas from other games though, but I tend to view the currency earned from playing the game as a small discount (or a large one if I let it accumulate for long enough.)

Sometimes I'll see a paint job or an ornament that I want and I'll buy it. The ARX doesn't really change that.

Besides, my copy of windows 10 comes with a built in calculator. Calc.exe I think it's called.
