Trouble with this sort of CG is that, if your combat ship is the other side of the bubble, then, quite honestly, it is just not worth the aggravation of flying there when you only have a range of about 11.5ly. You lose credits when you fly there, you lose credits when you fly back. Even if you get to tier 3 it's probably a loser.
Either increase the CG earlier tiers to make it worthwhile, or give us a much improved range for our fighters.
The other alternative, to have FDLs or FASs in each corner of the galaxy for this sort of thing, is also a non-starter, as the rewards are not high enough to finance this.
The CG lasted for 14 days. Plenty of time to get there.
And as mentioned, you can participate in an asp. If from the 1.4 mio sold copies, 10% would participate in the CG with an ASP contributing relatively little, we'd have Tier 1 long done by now.
Status quo is about 4k participants, "grinding" their butts off trying to achieve anything, while the rest is looking for excuses.
I don't think the CGs were set up with "few people grinding" in mind. Makes more sense if lots of people contribute relatively little to get the overall CG tier goals moving (making the individual contribution vs. reward a lot more favorable) and the "Top 10" Commanders grind it out to show who's the grindiest of them all.
Yes, you lose credits - you lose credits doing CZs anyway and you lose credits for the trade CG, too, but you influence/progress the story.
In those last few days, I had about 9 mio Combat bonds (as mentioned, slow start but now I can get about 2 mio per session), contributed about 2k tons to the hunting games CG and found my first alien barnacle, delivering a whooping 2 tonnes of Meta Alloys.
I could just sit in a HazRes and farm 10mio credits/hr and complain that that's all there is to do.
Well if you play with paying attention you don't need to run. But sometimes a small distraction can happen.
I like the CZs being so dynamic. I had a little dogfight with some Viper some time ago outside the main battlezone and when I boosted back to the "CZ marker", I was greeted by a dozen enemy ships who wiped out all my allies in the meantime and openend fire all at once. One of those "oh crap" moments (and yea, there was this little voice in my head saying "why is it so dark there .. no pew pew .. oh contacts .. ooooh... all red contacts") peeppeeppeep "shields down, taking damage, incoming missle, heat levels critical .. ".
Made me get the A class sensors.
However if we had proper details about what station sells what stuff, you could also easilier buy a travel cobra and buy and outfit a new ship on the other side, but soemtimes finding the right components takes ages as well.
