Help Frontier with a positive review?

Hello fellow commanders!
When you love Elite, go to the Odyssey Store page and leave a positive review! No need for a long feedback. Your positive rating counts.

With this post I am trying to reach out to one of the most solid player bases... the explorers!
A game relies on reviews... good reviews.
And btw: I am not a dev. I spent the last 24 hours trying to get into game and ending up with the orange sidewinder error. But I experienced 5 hours of Odyssey and I see it IS (and will be more in future) worthwile new content!

Despite all the hate and criticism which is to be expected as a reaction to this suggestion, make up your own mind! Have you enjoyed playing Elite so far? And do you think Odyssey will prove to be a successful improvement within the next 4 weeks? Then write a positive review... this is when Frontier needs us!
Nice try David

They have a lot of work to do along with replenishing what was lost by all of us during transition. I lost millions of credits because of these flaws and I expect to be repaid. After that, I will have hope in the future of this expansion.

i would think your post is at best a plea to not leave negative reviews, it’s too messed up to say anything good and I’m not even using the new release.

OK, I can give short review now, after trying to plot a route for over 20 minutes, using this new Galmap... And there are only two explanations for me failing:
  1. either Im dense as a blackhole and equally bright
  2. or this is a horsepoop and Odyssey SUCKS

Going back to Horizons, before they screw it as well...

PS: Is there a way to request my money back?

EDIT: I just found a third explanation - a bug. I logged out, played Horizons for a while. Then decided to try again and voila, it works with no issues... Before it would give me "No route available" even to 16ly closest system...

I did not buy Odyssey yet. No sure if I ever will. And I am not on Steam, so no review.

But - as some have commented here - this is a very bad idea. Frontier is ruled by merchants. Not by the Devs, or someone else - Merchants. Nothing bad in that, but keep in mind: A merchant will respect you as a customer only, if you react in a sensible manner. Complaining about a defective product, politely but strongly and withhold your money by not buying it is the only way to win a merchants respect. He has to fear your wrath, because if you are not satisfied he will loose money. He will be always nice and polite, but if you buy everything, even crap, he will laugh behind your back and think, you are an idiot.
We - players and customers - sadly are putty in the hand of marketing, we will buy everything if it is hyped enough. They know it, and they do not respect us. And this is not only the Gaming Industry, this is the case with many consumer goods, especially electronic and gadgets. If we want to change this, we need to be more disciplined and consequent, punishing merchants who try to sell us low value, defective products. And the punishment is just not to buy it. And a bad review for a bad (sloppy, not ready, buggy) game is deserved!

So - I think most of us here like ED, but by giving false reviews (like many Gaming Journalists do) we do not help our cause, and in the end we do not help Frontier, because the merchants in control at Frontier will not respect us and try to sell us more and more substandard cr*p.

And in view of the fact that especially Explorers are very short changed in this DLC the idea does not become better...
There are reportedly now human remains, broken technology and even active stations on nearly every landable planet out in the black, even 10.000s of Ly from the bubble. This is a broken mess, if reports can be believed. My motivation to further explore (I am an Explorer's Anchorage) is near zero. No this does not justify a good review...

Frame rate gone to pot, info panels disappear on a whim, body clicking in sys map and gal map is weirdly offset the closer you get to the side of the screen, nothing updates when you mouse over, HUD is too dim, sky box is too dark, the FSS seems laggy drawing the bodies. There's a star 8 light years away from me and the route plotter won't plot to it if I've got "use jet cone boost" enabled. It's a really frustrating experience. Neutron stars look like a joke. I'm not going to leave a good review, and I can't be bothered to write a bad one. I'm just glad they've kept horizons working the old way, otherwise I'd be gone.

Adding to the POI gone in the first post. When you do manage to find a geological location by sheer stupid luck. It only drops one material type for the entire location. Which means you now have to fly around aimlessly on the planet and hope come across a grade 5 material location. They know damn well about the complaints of engineering being a tedious grind. But guess what they did? Made the grinding even harder! What a complete asinine decision by Frontier. You have to leave the game and relaunch in horizons to do any reasonable raw material mining. That is not fun at all. If anyone does think it is fun at any level. Needs to get their head checked.

Along with all of the other complaints that are pointed out in this thread and in reviews. The criticism rightfully deserved with this dlc. My review on steam for Odyssey will stay negative forever now.

Edit: To anyone that might say that engineering is optional. Its really not. That's just an excuse to justify the grinding. You miss out on a good portion of the game if you don't do engineering.

I am having fun though.

It's like when Mass Effect Andromeda came out, and you played it to be amused by things.

They'll get most of the game breaking stuff sorted eventually.

Until then, breaking the game - like DTEA did on his stream today with weapon schematic exploity farm is pretty darn entertaining.

I don't understand why folks are so serious about it. We're all emerging from our COVID caves looking for something to club, and this is like a seal tied to a post with flashing lights and big arrows pointing at it. Just enjoy the experience for what it is at the moment.

I would be playing Horizons on an alt, but I keep getting Orange Sidewindered, so this is the evening's entertainment.

My review of Odyssey:
  • Early Access "Alpha" was a paid to access event
  • There was no Beta
  • Release date was declared before the "Alpha" was complete
  • Release was right before Fiscal Year End, so the attempt to inflate the numbers was obvious
  • They reneged on promised content in a blatant attempt to blackmail the customer base into buying the product (planet tech)
  • The PC v Console discrimination, especially for people that want "First Footfall" (which is just the newest sop for all the folks late to the "Discovered by" party)
  • Buying the goodwill of third party content providers by publically sending them "gifts" and immortalizing them in the game with named assets
  • The launch was a disaster
Bluntly, Odyssey could be used to write a textbook on how NOT to do a product launch.

TL;DR - If you really want this product, wait at least a couple of weeks, more reasonably, a couple of months. Frontier will force the issue eventually, hopefully with a sale.
