Help me understand what is it you get to do after getting longer jump ranges.

Don't be a debbie downer. you and lily are the most toxic ones in this thread. Everyone else is pretty constructive.
i mean, i suppose it's your prerogative to be all doom and gloom if that's how you want to live life, but do it in the other thread ploxkthx.

Every reasonable suggestion about jump ranges is typically met with "fly a different ship", "go play CQC" or "you're playing the wrong game".
It's getting tiresome.

This right here, although utterly OT, is what I have imagined from the start. I would really like if CQC took place in some ACTUAL place in the galaxy.
to some people it might not be unrelated. if CQC was connected, and it was something you could jump in from anywhere to join up with friends to blast (or be blasted) by ships.
(and we got over the minimum gap issues) would that address your issues? (again even if all ships got a similar boost and if the bubble expanded so that edge to edge of the bubble, you still had the same number of jumps?)

My friend has an electric car. It'll do about 60 miles on a charge. I'm not exactly how long it takes to recharge, but usually it's overnight.

My car uses petrol. It'll do about 240 miles on one tank. It takes me 10 minutes to refill.

We both live in the same town, and we both want to go to a party in a town 100 miles away tonight, and be back in town for work tomorrow morning.

Which car would you take?

Which is precisely why this thread isn't about jump ranges. Jump range discussion here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=229095
Every other possible viable alternative here. Good or bad. no judgement. Feasibility? we'll sort that out later. There's been some really good ideas in this thread...

I appreciate what you're trying to do, but the bulk of thread is moving in a positive direction. lets try to keep the momentum

and then there are just some people that love negativity

Tiresome is exactly what some of these people want. They are content staring at a load screen all night, so in their opinion the the game should never be changed.

I think they might even envy us, short-hoppers, that we are allowed to stare at loading screens more frequently and longer! :D

No it wouldn't address my issues. I am a bounty hunter and I simply have to move around to make my living. As it is now, 70% of my time in game consists of jumping. If it was reduced to 50% I would be one very ecstatic bounty hunter.

I am going to get shot down here, but here goes nothing.....

FD tout ED as a simulation based on
a full galactic and technological simulation based on real scientific principles.

Now, going by this and looking at what the flight ranges are of current planes in our world:
A 747 has a range of approximately 9800KM
An F-22 has a range of approximately 2960KM

In the real world fighters have a shorter range and it stands to reason that going forward as technology progresses this will probably stay the same.

It sucks having to make so many jumps but that's real life and it's also ED as this game is a SIMULATION BASED ON REAL SCIENTIFIC PRINCIPLES.

I accept that my FAS takes a long time to get anywhere and that's OK with me.

I have to hand it to you... on the surface it seems like such a good analogy, and then you remember that in your car story the vehicle is irrelevant once you arrive at your destination, which is not at all the case in Elite.

I just want enough jump range to be able to move between two places in the straight lines. (I said it for the third time. Who is the one trolling, here?)

I just wanted clarification that you are OK with those conditions. or if there was some other underlying issue. like being able to catch high-waked T7s... i don't know...
I'm going to infer from your reply that the conditions are acceptable to you.

Yes, you're going to be shot down because you're talking about what OP specifically asked you not to talk about

you too

Okay here's my answer to OP's question.

Q: Help me understand what is it you get to do after getting longer jump ranges.
A: You get to actually play the game. Jumping is tedious and not skillful. Very short jump ranges for combat ships just discourages combat ship pilots from actually moving from the system they are currently in. Combat ships do not need to be balanced by jump range because they are already balanced because they can't do anything but fight.

Right, so what part of the game is it that you enjoy playing? Res, CZ, BH, Newb Squashing, piracy? I mean, you're not flying your FDL 100ly to mine some ores...
