Ships help on getting the imperial cutter

I couldn't wait to get a Cutter. Bought one, hated it, sold it. Bought another one, hate it still. Ambition is good, but put it toward the Federal Corvette, I think you'll be MUCH happier, IMO. If you DO buy the Cutter, which costs an arm and a leg and a kidney, get it from Li Young Rui, and the ONLY place I think you can buy it from him is Hiyya Orbital in Arjung. And you'd better have some good credits saved up! I think my fuel scoop in this flying bus cost about as much as 10 Krait MKIIs!

Another vote for the Vette. Fully engineered you’re basically invincible (in PvE!)

Were the Cutter shine and put the Vette in shadows, by a huge margin, is mining and long range hauling. The Cutter is, by far, THE best miner in-game. No ship can equip 4 class 5 limpets, AND still harvest 512 tones, all keeping not just 3 mining lasers but enough shields and guns to laugh at any pirate...
The Cutter bought me first carrier and the second one, in no time....
So, all the love for the Cutter, if we ignore the combat.

On top of all that it’s probably the most sublime vessel in the game!

I've written many times, the Empire essentially has no warships.

With the Cutter, play bumper cars to drop the enemies weaker shields and then just go to town. It's the only way I can see them being able to defeat the Corvette.

Even so, I will always put my money in the Vette, 24/7... One is built for anything but fighting, other excel on fighting. A Vette can go up to 5-7k shields also, and the guns put the Cutter on shadow.... not just better but also incomparable better emplacement.
I own both, so I will use the best weapon a Cutter has when facing a Vette - SPEED.

Speed ? Run away.
I know that some on the Cutter carry torpedoes because they are easier to hit a slow Corvette.

You forgot the ECM and PD, when used by a decent commander, make torpedo runs pathetic... and you can carry so much of them, after you run dry, you are a target practice....

I feel far more confident in combat in a Cutter than a Corvette, but its good to have both. They both favor completely different combat styles, but I still think Cutter is better in PvP than the Corvette for several reasons.

I use both regularly for PvE massacre farming. Both can fit the 7A collector limpet and carry around 200t of limpets. I find the Cutter is better for hammers + long range beam thermal vent combo; while the Corvette is better for CQB.

For me, aiming fixed hitscan weapons with flight assist off is by far the easiest in the Cutter than any other ship. When I see a PvP Cutter, I get worried. But if I see a PvP Corvette, I know that is easily outrun.

8PD vs 7PD. (Power distr.)

To overtake means to run away? Mass lock no use for jump in another systems.

I'm not thinking about Corvette vs Cutter 1v1's.
Having that speed advantage lets the Cutter dictate pace of the fight. PvP is rarely even, and being able to leave slower ships' range to fight other ships is a huge advantage. I've seen too many Condas and Corvettes die because they get overwhelmed against wings while the Cutter can isolate its targets with its speed. Or inversly, the Corvette is left out of the fight because the enemy tries to target the faster wingmen. But either way, a good Corvette pilot should be able to escape. Its lower speed just makes it more vulnerable and harder for it to engage enemies that run away.

The 16% PD recharge advantage Corvette offers is a tough pill to swallow to give up that kind of speed imo. Both Corvette and Cutter can get around the same SCB MJ value (but Corvette can quad bank vs triple bank). The Cutter can get 24% faster shield recharge speed if both are Bi Weave which is good for PvE; but the 7C Bi weave is still plenty strong for PvE.

I think the Corvette has a great role to play for PvP though, it just can't chase down fleeing ships as easily. Which can be very frustrating!

What wings are you talking about here? FDL, MAMBA, Krait fly at speeds over 500 and it doesn't really matter if it's a Corvette or a Cutter in front of them.

I remember trying to intercept ships in SC on Cutter and was surprised, it was very hard :(

Being able to reach near 500 m/s in the Cutter is enough to do quite a bit of damage to those fleeing ships.

Probably translation difficulties. I meant the other way around. Cutter can't run away from ships with speeds over 500.
And since you can't run away from such ships, it doesn't matter what speed you have 450 or 350.

The advantage of Cutter is the fact it can outrun the other big guns bearers out there, namely the Vette and the Conda.
And it can low wake at anytime.

I like imperial ships. I have special assemblies of Courier, Clipper and Cutter. The purpose of the Courier and the Clipper is clear to me. But I can't adjust the Cutter for PvP combat. Bad maneuverability, small distributor, etc. make it hard to assemble. And with the Corvette I have no such problem.

P.S. I'm still hoping that in the future, I will be allowed to rebuild my FC into an imperial look with a 13k arx.
