I actually follow this rule myself just as a personal roleplay. I like to believe some traditions like this survive even into the far future.

I take my lead from Ian Banks. My ships get a placeholder name, but are encouraged to rename themselves once we get a feel for each other.

Is there a way to rename other ships in your fleet, at remote locations?

I've got two ships in Colonia, but the rest are in the Bubble, and since I'm in Colonia at the moment and need to change from an old squadron indicator at the start of each name...

I don't want to have to fly all the ships to me (or vice versa) just in order to rename them!
