Help With POI Blue Circle Search Area Interpretation

Hi all!

I've been exploring a while now but I'm having some trouble working with the POI, blue circle search area. Specifically, when I detect and approach a blue POI search area, sometimes it will shrink quickly to a small size/search zone, whereas more often than not it remains large - I can't reliably replicate the same focusing/narrowing down effect.

Some sources I found said there are small and large circles for different types of contacts whereas others said they shrink down if you spend time over the area. Any advice or clarity on how to read & work with the POI blue circle would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

The number one thing to do is to change your scanner from logarithmic to linear, once you do that you will see a lot less shrinking and growing. There really are only a small number of types of shrinkers/growers, biology/place holder outcrops which start huge and shrink to tiny dots (except on icy bodies where they start out tiny), mining installation which start out large and shrink to medium, and some wrecks, which start out medium and grow when you get directly over the top of the POI.

Unfortunately we can't predict changes that FDEV may make without telling us so this may change without warning.

Thanks for the help guys! Between both I think I'm getting the hang of things nicely now. I have noticed since practicing that the geological/volcanic sites are also consistently indicated as small circles.

Yes, they aren't shrinkers or growers, always tiny circles. One of the things that is strange is the inconsistency in the biology POI's. As I said, on icy worlds they appear the same as volcanic POI's, always tiny circles but on rocky or metallic they start huge and shrink.
