Hooray for new ship. \o/

I am excited for new ships but will be disappointed if the new ship variants are designed specifically for the Thargoid war.
Me also. Especially with the new upcoming ability to end the war scenario, it's a possibility. That said, those ships would be required all at once? Unless frontier stretch the war out for the rest of the year/ever?
I'd rather the new feature be a mundane new tritium star scooping ship than that.

Flimley

Either way. I am excited about the new ships and would like to know more on their release dates.

I didn't hate, but it became such an arcane exercise in weird things to do I just lost interest.
I did not hate the war either. The voiced problem from my circle of ED friends was "why couldn't they take their combat vessel as is" without doing the refitting grind.

If so, there'll be a Fed ship too (probably a small)
And then an Alliance large that is more attractive than the T10. That would be fair. But we desperately need a Med Imperial combat ship -- to even out the CZs if nothing more. Just adapt the Clipper to make it med by bringing in the side pods (that would likely help with the deplorable shied coverage as well). The Imperial Corsair!

That was sort of the worst part to me. I setup an AX vessel and then it just kept going and going and going. "Go here, fetch this, make that, so you fetch this other thing that you will use to buy the whatchmadigger so you can farm some of that". I liked the conflicts and a bit of challenge trying to make a ship that could make the cargo and passenger runs all in the vain hope of some Thargoid ground combat that wouldn't be more hover-drones. But once I stepped out the chain of things you needed to make was like "The House That Jack Built" and I just could not muster the interest again.

I did at least like the goid-restore-power missions but those became hard to find pretty fast. I think this storyline revolved to much around collecting and NEW MODULE NEEDED and kinda withered up after it became all farming and peeling.

For these reasons, ATM I have resigned in the thargoid war niche to only fighting at outposts with a traditional 4 guardian weapons, 1 beam laser combat setup. No glaives there, no complicated harvesting, just simple & fun MMO combat action in open mode, like in the beginning of the war. That was just the best Thargoid related game mechanic for me personally, and it still is.

Which could be what the new ships will address … already pre-optimised (to some level) for AX combat?

100% agree: the early days doing surface base defence were great.

For me, it was a FAS with 2x Mod Plasma and 2x Mod Shard Cannon. Couple of Heatsinks, SDFN and one of those Caustic Sinks when they became available. No Xeno Scanner - just eyeball the hearts. Lots of fun!

Then it started getting to the point where I needed to fly a Cutter in order to pack enough stuff and be fast enough to handle the Glaives in addition to the other enemy types … plus the change so that instances stopped spawning enemies when the rest of the community “won” the system before I even got on at the weekend … killed the interest, for me.

Hoping wherever it goes next brings some of the fun back!!

A "conclusion" to the war is not necessarily the same as the end of it. =)
(one does not add massive assets just to pull them ;) )

No grind needed. The necessary gear can be bought at the rescue megaships unless you absolutely have to go against the highest tier endgame enemies, which requires a wing.
(this is why the devs did the "three blue circles" and the "hand shows a circle" during the livestreams)

Most likely not: just like there are no Odyssey CGs, new ships will most likely function in Horizons too.
(fdev has taken great pains to not gate content in that way. -yes one could argue that Odyssey is a "kind of gating", but that is still a stretch as it is a DLC with it's own content)

That is the way to go: playing the game to have fun! :D

See that doesn't make sense to me, for a start the ships aren't all coming out in this patch, but this patch has basically been put forward as the end of the Thargoid war, so by the time all the new ships are out, the Thargoid menace is effectively over! So pre-optimising them for a war that's already ended?

May be a new menace is behind the corner... who knows? :D

That's the game of Elite. It's not the destination, it's the journey.

I engineer ships/suits/weapons to be more efficient at getting stuff required for ships/suits/weapons...

I suspect the Thargoid war is here to stay. Game focus might change, but too much has gone into the Thargoids for Frontier to remove this content from gameplay.

Yeah I don't mean the Thargoids are going to go away, but the intensive war effort that's happening at the moment will probably die down to a smouldering border defense type of behaviour and new areas to explore in the Thargoid conflict will be put forward, so why bring out AX optimised ships now when they would have been far more use during the height of the war is what I mean. Unless FDEV intend to open up Thargoid space for which these new ships will be needed, but again spacing them like they are doing doesn't make a lot of sense.

Just a thought, I wonder if there are "new areas to explore", such as Elite's 'Area 51's' :D. (the unobtainable permit locked systems), in some of this years updates. 🤔

Jack :)

Yep, IIRC I went around COL 70 SECTOR a long time ago and it is a kind of sphere over 2000LY across with only a few (if any) routes through but mostly you have to go around.

That is a massive area of 100's if not 1000's systems permit locked - would be great if the stuff in that area is already there in game just has to be unlocked for the new feature or new ships 🙏

I don’t want to start a pointless thread (or start a flame war amongst Cmdrs) so thought “Hooray for new ship” is probably the most suitable place to slip in a slightly tangential question.

Anyone got any thoughts on when this may be released? I’d assume FDev would want to talk about it and show it off on a Livestream beforehand but I’ve no idea whether they’re even scheduled these days. Has it been mentioned that it will be released alongside an update (narrative or otherwise) or released prior to the next Tharg War update?

….I haven’t seen any chat around “when” so profuse and grovelling apologies if I’ve overlooked a 50 page thread!
