Nope EDH 4.0 is an advert for EDO 4.0 engine, you all ready have the full version of 4.0 so will not be offered the advert for the 4.0 engine...

The 4.0 engine is no longer pay to play beta and has been released as elite dangerous horizons 4.0 as a retail product demo to all 3.8 PC users that never paid for what was a bad beta build...

Its a big advert to sell the EDO 4.0 DLC content that is also now up for sale at a big discount at the same time...

The advert allows people to test systems for support without paying for a beta build version like last time via pre order...
This release is a courtesy and free upgrade for non-Odyssey owners. They now get to try the 4.0 codebase with a number of perks that contains (see previous FAQs), as well as engage with future content and narrative updates at no additional cost, where this wasn't possible before.

Frontier have decided that if you have Odyssey you cannot access Horizons 4.0. If you want to access it to play with others you need to all play 3.8 Horizons

Just as before, if Odyssey and non-Odyssey players wish to play together, you'll have to do so in 3.8.

This has understandable caused some feedback to Frontier about those who have paid for Odyssey being disadvantaged - hopefully they will listen as this is nonsensical, but who knows?

Only way to play Horizons 4.0 is to not own Odyssey, so you would probably have to refund it, or get Support to remove it from your account. There is a way to run Horizons 4.0 using skullduggery, but as it breaks the EULA I won't go further.

I don't think we know if it breaks the EULA yet, as it was found over the weekend and no one from FDev has commented on it. If you search the forums for "seasonone" or "seasontwo" you may find some information. This information may or may not be related to changing a parameter as the game is called and started up. FDev may not approve and may put out a patch to stop that behavior. And it is also possible that it does break the EULA. Or FDev will never comment and does not care, maybe we find out later this week.

Although to 'own' Odyssey you had to buy Horizons first (one way or the other) and then buy Odyssey. So why Fdev is making a gimped version of Odyssey (EDH 4.0) NOT available along with the full version (EDO 4.0) being available is a mystery to me.

I am not sure it is an advert for the Odyssey engine. The big thing in Odyssey is space legs. Combat and planet exploration via your own two feet. That is the one thing missing from the 'advert' called EDH 4.0. I kinda wish they had included the on foot training mission. That might have even sold a few additional copies of odyssey.

They cant. Nothing on-foot can make it from Odyssey into Horizons.

(i really wished they didnt went for PEGI7 when they launched Elite 8years ago or whatever it is since then)

Agreed, the Pegi 7 issue(s) are not helping right now. So with that in mind a legs demo in EDH 4.0 where you are alone on a pristine planet doing biology scans. Seems Pegi 7 compliant to me... But maybe not for some crazy arcane legal or financial reason

Probably no issues with that scenario.
Or at least no issues for as long they cant get killed nor they cannot suicide (or get eaten by some plant 😂 )

As I put it on "that" other posting site, Remember when Doom came out on Shareware? Great wasn't it? Then remember getting the full version after? How many players do you suppose gave up playing the complete version and reverted back to the Shareware one? There's your answer

I would give up the full version alone, if then, i can play with my friends on horisons 4.0.
Here is my reply :D
Also my question was, if i delete then dlc, can i acces 4.0 again. but i got that too, the answer is no.

what can i do to acces horizons 4.0?

Note, this procedure is not recommended, condoned, or supported by Frontier:

1. Launch Odyssey normally.

2. Alt-tab and open up Task Manager, find the process called "Elite Dangerous: Odyssey Executable", r-click and "go to details", and note the PID # for EliteDangerous64.exe.

3. Now open a command prompt and enter "wmic.exe path Win32_Process where handle='xxxx' get Commandline /format:list", replacing xxxx with the PID, and press enter.

4. Copy everything after the "EliteDangerous64.exe" part of the output then quit the game and the launcher.

5. In the command prompt window navigate to the directory of the elite dangerous executable, as shown in the output above, then paste everything you previously copied into the command prompt and add (without quotes) "SeasonTwo /SeasonTwo" to the end of the line.

6. Press Enter and Horizons 4.0 should launch.

If you need to restart the game, the same server token will work for a time, but not forever. If you run into issues, launch normal Odyssey again and dump the command line to get your updated server token.

Edit: corrected steps 4 & 5.

The number of people who played the shareware version of Doom dwarfed the number that had the full game. If multiplayer had been more popular at the time, the de facto multiplayer version of the game probably would have been the 1.1v shareware release, even for those who owned the full version.

Ah. but if your friends are already playing 4, then why don't they want to join you in Odyssey? Why do you have to move, but they won't? Plus, if it's just a question of money, why not all chip in together to buy a copy one week, then chip in to buy another copy the next.. etc.. Only a little outlay at a time, and they all end up in the best version.

They got the game for free on epic, and i bought it for myself from steam along side the dlc to join them. (I did not know this 4.0 rubbish when i bought the dlc)
Also if they got it for free, they won't spend money on it. This is a stupid will of them.
