News Horizons Beta progress

David Braben confirmed in one of his comments yesterday evening that if you wipe your save in Beta, it will not affect your main game progress. I can also confirm that this has been the case with every beta up to now for all the releases since the game was released in December 2014.

I am curious to know if there is a way to actually reset only certain aspects of the game.

Many other games allow for multiple characters in the same account, where you can share among them items and money.

I would like the idea to actually have different commanders, each doing something different in a different area of the galaxy, and not worry to have to start with 1000 credits again.

Is there any technical reason for not allowing multiple commanders sharing one single account?

In the original discussions in the design discussion forum, I think it was mooted that there would eventually be 3 commander slots for each person, but this has never been implemented up to now. They have also never said that it won't happen either - I think whenever it's been asked recently there has been no comment from FD.

I'm not aware of any technical reason for this because you can do it now by buying a second account. You can even run two copies of ED on the same computer at the same time if you are clever - I've seen a report of someone managing to do this.

improve the maneuverability of Python that was crap after they made the "nerf". Anaconda also sucks its maneuverability.
It is an absurd to pay millions for a ship that looks like a turtle maneuver, and not come to me with issues such as "must balance for players" if so to have 30 ships? only make a well all use the same ship.

it's impossible. On a PC, you do not run two accounts. The launcher will not.
Closing the launcher and opening it to the second account will not give anything either. Staffing you can do it with two versions of the x32 and x64 for example ...

If that's the case, FD must have done something to block this recently because a couple of months ago I was talking to someone who had 2 copies of ED running simultaenously on 2 monitors on the same PC.

He did this by closing the launcher, re-opening, logging out, logging back in with the second account, answering the verification code on the second account, then running the game again. You could do this a while back. Of course it's pretty confusing if you only have one set of controls :)

i ask support and have this :

With Elite: Dangerous it is not possible to run two instances of the game on the same computer. This is due to the way the Launcher works - if there is an active Elite: Dangerous client running, the Launcher will not display a 'Play' button, preventing further clients from opening.

If you feel strongly that this should be changed then please post on our forums so our developers and designers can take it into consideration for a future update. The correct place to do so is just a click away: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=76

For now if you wish to play Elite: Dangerous on more than one client, you will need to do so on multiple computers.

Kind regards,

So not sure maybe this is not implemented yet but can we buy bay for fighter craft for Anaconda's & Federal Corvette's now in Horizions beta now ?
Thanks for any info.

When Horizons comes out, it will be able to run with the 32bit copies of the game. But in future, expansions will only work with 64bit computers, which is what I have, I'm wondering if the 64bit expansions will be able to work with my 32bit copy? Do you think there will be an issue?

I think that Horizons is only 64 bit. Basic ED is 32 and 64 bit. But I also believe that the 32-bit version is only valid one more year. --- https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=201524

I'm undecided about buying beta or pre order the horizon , to decide I want to know if you have a release date of the full game or not.
thanks for any replies

No official date as far as I'm aware but it's going to be another week or two I would say. Remember, buying beta access gives you early beta access to all releases in the year, not just planetary landings.

Horizons is only available for 64-bit systems.

The team are still hard at work on the Horizons beta, including yesterday and today (Sunday). A huge thanks to the team for this, and for those that sent us pizza. Unfortunately the issues last week have compressed the timescales, but the game is looking ever better. This has put the Tuesday beta release at risk, and though Tuesday is still theoretically possible, in all likelihood it will be in the following few days before we can release it.

While playing today I took this video (unedited) – an extra ‘sneak peek’ – landing a Vulture outside Kaleri Oasis in the Teppani system and deploying an SRV– with me messing around in solo. Again some issues, which I won’t list here.

This is big. Take the time to make it right, even if a lot of us can't wait for it to launch, I think a bug-riddled expansion wouldn't make anyone happy. But you know that!

It seems when I load up Horizons (last 2 times) it asks me to update, which takes an hour and then I have no time to play it. It would be good to play without updating if it's possible. I understand it's a beta, however just having the option when you don't have much time would be great.
