News Horizons Beta Update

Hello all,

Just a quick note to follow up on David's recent post. As expected the beta release will not be tomorrow and will instead move back a few days while the final touches are added.

We will keep everyone updated on the forums and social media channels.

Thank you for your patience.

Fly safe!

Zac

Keep up the good work guys.
I can't wait to get my hands on the Beta.

I've forewarned the family I'm unavailable when its released, looking forward to it.

Happy, happy, joy, joy!

no I don't think so.
I saw it first on facebook provided by another fan , it would have been so much nicer if released by FD them selves.
via mail or FB is so much more personal , these little things matter allot for public relations.

you know lots of people are very eager to test this.
simple communication keeps allot of fans happy.
What is this "face book" of which you speak?

Listen, mate. It's not a release date. It was a target date for a beta. When initially announced on the livestream it was earmarked as the *week of* the 23rd with the proviso that, as with all development targets, it could slip.

It was then warned two days ago that it would likely slip as 1.5b had slipped half a week and compressed the time they had available.

At 10pm last night they announced it had definitely slipped.

Frankly, that's good communication. It's fair and it's reasonable. They promised nothing bar release by Christmas.

Oh call me a Whaaaambulance.

BW.

oh yeah Bro, i can feel with you. I had 18 days vacation left for 2015 and i'm in vac now and no beta available for download......thats rly bad when you pay extra cash and one day before beta release the developper says...sorry...few days (could be one full week) delay....i'm also not fine with this!!!! Lot of players are planing their days for ED playtime in case of family, work aso.....and now all is ...... its not correct FD, and i think it's also not correct to take extra cash for something you are not able to release to the customer on given date and when you say 24.11.2015....than do it...and if you are not sure...allway it is better to say nothing.....now i'm not positive supprized and my planes totally over board...all movements, decissions from the last days, now useless and i need to plan my time, my days totally new......

BR, Kris

Take your time, if its not ready, then its not ready, far better for you to be happy with it, even for a beta release than issue it too early for the sake of another day or two.
More power to you keyboards, keep up the good work.

A book of faces?

Sounds very nasty to me - best steer clear I think.

Joking aside I refuse to use FB for various reasons, and twitter as well - social media is converting people into mindless idiots.

PLEASE tell me that there will be planets / asteroids / celestial bodies that we can fly through (ones with huge caverns, with bases inside and stuff).

Oh man...

I'd love to be, but there's too much to do finding the right balance between flying *to* a planet, and flying *into* a planet first ;). One of these is fun, the other is awesome.

I never knew you could fly into planets in Fallout 4!

In all seriousness, better late and sound than on time and half-baked! :)

(begin joke)*draws sword of unjustified entitlement* You shall deliver the beta now or I shall not be held responsible for wrath others may face. etc,etc ........ (end joke).

Thanks for the Heads up. looking forward to "driving" this beta through to release.

Right, that's it - the Canonn hereby announces its intention to rage-dump thousands of UAs at your door, Zac. Thereby, uh... scuppering the chances of it being... uh....

I'll get my coat.

We can wait ;)

Don't listen to the little cry babies, after all they'll be the ones kicking and screaming when Horizons goes live cause they've lost all those credits, ranks, ships etc.
I've waited all these years for this classic so another few days, even a week or more I know it will be worth it.

That's a little disappointing as I have a day off work tomorrow and was looking forward to testing out Horizons.

However excellent communication and it is very much appreciated. Ready when it's ready is fine with me.

You can't win in these situations. Release it on time but with bugs and people moan about the bugs. Delay it to fix the bugs and they'll moan about the delay.

Also, in relation to the release "window" for the beta and issue of not giving enough notice... https://youtu.be/RdP1DmRYco8?t=315 - This was released 20 days ago...

Just saying ;)

Take your time FD

Hi All,

I'm new to the Elite-D community, but have 250+hrs on Elite Dangerous since October and I bought the Horizons update with the beta access a couple of weeks ago and have been waiting until midnight tonight to get on and download the beta of Horizons (ONLY to NOW find out it's delayed).

A little bit more warning would have been appreciated (perhaps on the launcher!!). I'm not TOO mad at you for delaying it (if it's totally not working). However, I've cleared my whole diary from tonight till Thursday night, so I could have a non-stop session on Horizons (NOW I CAN'T....Grrr!!!).

We (the community) appreciate that it's not going to be perfect (it's a BETA, not a finished product). So, unless there's a major issue/fault with horizons, why not just release it on the date stated (tonight) and you could do updates over the next few days to sort out the issues that are causing you to delay the WHOLE release. I'm sure this approach would gain you far more respect from the community (even with any initial issues/blips that may happen), as opposed to delaying the whole beta. Besides.... it's a BETA anyway, so we expect initial issues with it, that's also why we're also doing the beta, to help you test it before it's full release...

may be worth noting all the other responses by us (the community) we are indeed all a little disappointed, but we mostly seem to be accepting the delay as an unfortunate necessity. The guys have worked ridiculously hard to get this release ready for us, with many hours of overtime carded, and even the community getting behind the push by sorting out pizza and refreshments this weekend to help keep them going. they will be just as disappointed, if not more so, than we are at having to hold back this release. whatever the reason, it will have been needed.
