News Horizons Beta Update

Thanks for the update Zac. I'm looking forward to seeing what you have for us when your ready. Development is tricksy, you never know what issues are going to drop out at the last minute, especially when your pushing hard to exceed everybody's expectations.

may be worth noting all the other responses by us (the community) we are indeed all a little disappointed, but we mostly seem to be accepting the delay as an unfortunate necessity. The guys have worked ridiculously hard to get this release ready for us, with many hours of overtime carded, and even the community getting behind the push by sorting out pizza and refreshments this weekend to help keep them going. they will be just as disappointed, if not more so, than we are at having to hold back this release. whatever the reason, it will have been needed.

I just say +1

Hey guys, let's make a wager on what kind of stupid, in-your-face, almost-showstopping and absolutely and unavoidably obvious bug(s) there will be in the first release of the Horizons beta? I put my money on something like landing gear not deploying near planets... (just can't forget the Cutter landing gear bug). As for the delay, it doesn't really matter since nobody can do anything about it anyway.

Edit: also let's not forget bug regression, So I say we're likely to again "loose" ships as soon as we store them.

So notification on the Official Forums isn't Official enough?

no Ian, i don't thinks its official enough.. what i want, what i really really want, is someone from FD calling round to my house with cake, or biscuits, and letting me down gently, now.. is that too much to ask??

Airless planets fail to display on screen? That's probably a biggy.

No, too much negativity. Think happy thoughts, Think Happy thoughts...

Maybe a good new maybe not: i was playing on 1.5 beta and serveur stop. Now there is no access to 1.5, Horizon coming? I don't know but that the news in real time on Snefru Chanel lol

Tuesday is a good day to release:)
No one in their right mind ships before the weekend. Well unless you count Saturday and Sunday as working days.

As per discussion on page 3 about crashing into the planet.
It would be cool to have impact craters dynamically generated.

The size of such a crater correlates to the size of the pilots ego :)

i fear we would have many large craters in space where once there were planets and orbital bodies :D

Hi commanders.
I have read this morning about de delay of the Horizons beta release. Well, I must say something:
I'ts been more than one year since I frist heard about Elite: Dangerous. It was someone in a web page that posted a video of an asteroid field. Some weeks later I saw another video of somebody entering a huge cubic station. I was amazed. "Goodness me!" I thought, as I had never seen anything so impressive, and when I reached home I bought everything that I could regarding this universe - Elite: Dangerous + Lifetime explansions. 80€! Just that for an entire galaxy to explore and a lot of wonderful space stations where to land and deal with goods and weapons! And aaaaall of that just for the price of 3 or 4 meals that would last for a few hours. I couldn't beleive!
I was getting all of that by Christmas (I bought it in september 2014). Since then I have had dozens of hours of wonderful playing and have travelled thousands of lightyears in the galaxy. At the moment I am getting delighted discovering new worlds and reading about them in the descriptions (and learning a lot of astrophisics). Visiting far and exotic planet rings full of different huge floating rocks and pieces of ice. Every night, when I arrive home, I love to get in my ship and imagine I am there, alone, relaxed, enjoying the wonders of the galaxy (by the way, I can't wait to have a HMD to really get away and be there!).
So, after all this, some questions come to my minds, along with the answers right away:

1. Do I think Elite: Dangerous is expensive or would be expensive for 40 or 50 a year if I had not got the lifetime expansions?
- Absolutely not. As I said, just for the price of a few meals, or some drinks in some places, ED is a present. Have you ever had a look at the "Credits" option in the game? There is a huge amount of professionals that work hard so that we can enjoy thousands of incredible details that, usually slip away unnoticed. Imagine the number of code lines that need to be written so that all those details and all the phisics are there for us.

2. Can I wait for Horizons Beta some days more than advertised?
- Absolutely yes. I will wait whatever it takes. One day? One month? ... WHATEVER IT TAKES! I am sure that we will have the best game ever. The team will and is doing it for us. In fact I don't think there is a better game than ED at the moment, and if this keeps as it is at the moment, I doubt there will ever be another one that compares to ED.

Thanks a lot Frontier Developments team.

Popped my head in expecting idiocy. Was not disappointed.

The beta will take as long as it does - a delay is much better than pushing out broken code as it creates more frustration.

They've been quite silent about other features these days... Some feel like they'll be for later (multicrew), but one especially comes to my mind: dDo you think they could launch character editor along 2.0? Would be great if we could play with it during beta.
