Horizons / Odyssey Compatibility

Most people know that Odyssey will be as buggy and unfinished as every other ED release so far. There will be drama, but that's how we like it.

Maybe delaying it would be a good thing and please those who want to see less bugs and better optimisation. But those who enjoy the game despite the bugs would be angry that they can't play on the 19th.

Generally, as long as the game remains in constant development, it will never be free of bugs and issues. Theoretically the game would probably be in a better state if they didn't release it in 2014 but spend the last 7 years to fully flesh it out. Not sure how they would fund development, maybe sell jpgs of future space ships?
As you can see, there is another extreme to your Cyberpunk example. So what is the ideal time for release? Odyssey already got delayed, if they would aim for a release in autumn why shouldn't they delay it further? Surely they could make it better and more complete that way? Well the answer is, at some point we want to play a game. If the fun we have with it outweighs the frustration about bugs and issues I'd say it should be released.
Since several issues have cropped up not only in Alpha, but because of the fact they are having to fracture the community "until the console release", one would read the writing on the wall and delay it until then, giving time to handle those issues they didn't even find out about till Alpha, and figure out what technical issue has cropped up that requires them to keep Ody Cmdrs and Horizons Cmdrs apart till then. I mean if the release experience is going to be shoddy or come with all this conditionalities like EVERY release has been. For once, just for a change of pace, I'd like to see Fdev NOT boldly jump into a punji pit. I get that you want to play Odyssey, I do, I've been wanting to play space legs for the longest. But I also want it to be done right rather than done fast, and Fdev has made a bad habit of releasing things quickly and trying to fix it later, to mixed results, then wait and do it right the first time. I dont want Odyssey become "just another broken/abandoned feature" of this game because Fdev is following the same recipe for disaster they always have.

Reminds me of how I paid for a preorder on X:Rebirth, only to ask for a refund after it came out. I simply refuse to pay for a public beta quality release, unless it's at a ridiculous discount or free like Horizons was on Epic the other day. Bought ED:H myself on Steam for the full price, about a year ago, so well out of the paid public beta phase.

I bought CP2077 at release, and completed it before the first bigger patch came out.

I had a lot of fun in the process.

So, wrong.
While your personal experience may vary but I'm talking about the aggregate and the total community experience of issues that have occurred, and yes it has hurt CDPR financially as a result. It happened because they rushed, even their own dev team has admitted this. That is a demonstrable fact.

Why? Those who think it's going to be a massive mess can choose to wait until the fall to buy/play it. FDev have made it clear that they are continuing to work the console versions and will release it in the fall along with the merger of Odyssey tech into the base game. What reasoning justifies trying to derail their plans of releasing it for those who want to play it regardless of the state? What do you honestly think the outcome difference will be with another delay? Do you think if they delay the PC release that somehow it's going to be a massively better game by the time the console versions are released because it wasn't released on PC? That makes no sense. Why do you care that an F-ton of people want to play it on May 19th in whatever state its in and are trying to prevent them from doing so? Many people had a great time in the Alpha in spite of all the flaws. Many of us have been waiting for anything new and meaningful in this game for years. Even if it was like the Alpha (with working panels), I'd be thrilled. It's something, anything to bring new life to the game. The "delay it because we know it's going to be crap even though we haven't seen the full release that isn't happening until May 19th" crowd is just flexing ignorance. No one knows the state of what is going to come out on May 19th except FDev. Judge the release after the 19th, at least it will be an informed judgement.

I'd have to go and google it but I seem to remember that CP2077 was a roaring success financially for CDPR, despite the bad press and car crash launch.

Well, someone up there decided that Odyssey must launch before the end of FY2020.
And we will be getting it.

🤷‍♂️
I just don't understand why everyone a minority is so upset about this. We've survived a month of Alpha that "segregated" the PC community, and I don't remember anyone complaining about it. I was still on Horizons, and there were no observed drops in numbers in my instances during the CGs I participated in.

Just think of May 19th as Odyssey Alpha Part 2 - some people will play it, others will continue playing Horizons, and the world won't end any faster than it did when this very same thing happened in April during Alpha Part 1.
