Since several issues have cropped up not only in Alpha, but because of the fact they are having to fracture the community "until the console release", one would read the writing on the wall and delay it until then, giving time to handle those issues they didn't even find out about till Alpha, and figure out what technical issue has cropped up that requires them to keep Ody Cmdrs and Horizons Cmdrs apart till then. I mean if the release experience is going to be shoddy or come with all this conditionalities like EVERY release has been. For once, just for a change of pace, I'd like to see Fdev NOT boldly jump into a punji pit. I get that you want to play Odyssey, I do, I've been wanting to play space legs for the longest. But I also want it to be done right rather than done fast, and Fdev has made a bad habit of releasing things quickly and trying to fix it later, to mixed results, then wait and do it right the first time. I dont want Odyssey become "just another broken/abandoned feature" of this game because Fdev is following the same recipe for disaster they always have. Most people know that Odyssey will be as buggy and unfinished as every other ED release so far. There will be drama, but that's how we like it.
Maybe delaying it would be a good thing and please those who want to see less bugs and better optimisation. But those who enjoy the game despite the bugs would be angry that they can't play on the 19th.
Generally, as long as the game remains in constant development, it will never be free of bugs and issues. Theoretically the game would probably be in a better state if they didn't release it in 2014 but spend the last 7 years to fully flesh it out. Not sure how they would fund development, maybe sell jpgs of future space ships?
As you can see, there is another extreme to your Cyberpunk example. So what is the ideal time for release? Odyssey already got delayed, if they would aim for a release in autumn why shouldn't they delay it further? Surely they could make it better and more complete that way? Well the answer is, at some point we want to play a game. If the fun we have with it outweighs the frustration about bugs and issues I'd say it should be released.
