Horrible Ship Names

All my ships have had the prefix "J's" because of Robert Jannyx, first of the star-travelers in the Jannyx family, who had the nickname "J" in the pre-Federation Terran Fleet because he looked so much like Will Smith. CMDR Karla Jannyx is his great-great-great granddaughter, pilot of J's Sojourner, and the first in the family to leave the human-space bubble.

Okay will look into that sometime.... btw does it have violence, bad language and occasional nudity? It's just that I like HBO series like Sopranos and GOT..... 😈
It does in fact have all 3, though most of the swearing is in Mandarin.

Isn't imitation a form of flattery? I think all those names are from great movies/games. Except for Firefly, never watched that one. Now you got me trying to remember the name of the ship from "Event Horizon"! That's one of the names I was going to pick for my Annie but ended up with "Porkchop" 'cos Annies have have such fat bellies!
I think it's called the Event Horizon. :p

Krait 2 - "The Long Way Home"

Most of my ships are named from or inspired by sci fi books of one era or another.

I will give you a like if you can work out where my Python's name comes from.

"The Crime and Glory"

My Cobra 3 is called "The Starbow's End"

I thought that was too obvious..... well that's an excuse to watch it again! Shame they cut that movie so much, then lost all the cuts (nearly an hour of scenes. Ah, movie studios, not run by the most brilliant of minds methinks!). Apparently they had to remove a lot of stuff that was too gruesome! Would love to have seen the uncut version..... 😭

Trust me if you play elite find a cheap DVD of firefly and watch it - it's the best thing Joss Whedon did before avengers :)

Never watched Firefly, but think i've watched Serenity like 5 or 6 times :)
Anyway, my ship names are all over the place. From my daughter's dog name to books, cartoon and movie characters and then to greek mythology with the odd beer package name slipped in-between (have a sidewinder and a hauler both named 6-pack)

I can handle another “Nostromo”

But.

That eye scar that goes down the left side of the face. Yeesh.

I call it the “noob scar”.

In my lore there is an overhead machete storage locker on the left side of the sidewinder. Faulcon Delacy were going to do a recall, but the Sirius Bionic Eye corporation is a major stakeholder, and the recall never happened. So that’s why you see all these freshly minted trade elite CMDRs with sod all combat rank and a “cool scar” with a bionic eye.

“I’ll have what he’s having thanks”
Haha, I've got one on the right side. I literally look exactly like my CMDR IRL, needed to have some point of difference.

Hmm, ship names. I actually think naming them after sci-fi ships is a cool idea, but I don't. Here are some of mine:

A Little Curiosity (my Sidey)
Boomerang Star (Cobra Mk3, named after a sci-fi ship now that I think about it, hehe)
Carrion Roc (Vulture)
Migrant Sparrow (Clipper)
Hunting Heron (Courier)
Iron Hammerhead (Krait Mk2)
Silver Sailfish (Beluga)
Prismatic Pangolin (Challenger)
Clever Anansi (AspX)
Quicksilver Falcon (iEagle)
Fullmetal Monitor (FGS)
Vermilion Huntress (Mamba)

Whenever it comes to names... i always make stuff up... ships, characters, whatever, but the probs aren't unique by any measure.

Krait MK 2: Fury
Imperial cutter: defiant
Anaconda: Interjector
Asp E: nautilus
Pythons: Jacka, Jaguar, Vigilant, PyTaxi

EDIT: I once had the unfortunate luck of drawing up a character for a mates D&D campaign... selected a build, drew up a fairly complex backstory and everything... showed it to my mate who said "... isn't that just one of the example characters from the player handbook?"

Sure enough, with the exception of a couple minor attributes, I'd come up with a sample character from the book... race, class, religion, backstory, even the name. All the same.

Me seeing yet another Krait named "Millenium Falcon". I'm not an aggressive type but next time I'm gonna shoot them on sight.
