Same. ED Horizons and later Odyssey purchased through FDev store but launching from Steam

  • Got an upgrade through steam about an hour ago now
  • Get an "Update Required" every time I launch from Steam
  • Steam updates are set high priority
  • Launching C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\edlaunch.exe and logging in gives me an Upgrade button
  • Clicking Upgrade briefly flashes a dialog that I can't read/capture before it disappears
  • Launcher locks up and has to be closed via task manager
And to be clear I do own Odyssey through the FDev store and was able to play in Odyssey mode yesterday. Assuming the Upgrade button means it doesn't see I have permissions ... I'm thinking there's a backend problem going on.

If I use the launcher through Steam (where the "UPDATE REQUIRED" message comes up but can't be fixed) then behind that error message I see the launcher there also has "Upgrade" as an option. So the launcher no longer thinks I own Odyssey.

My comment had this part :)

Run C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\edlaunch.exe (or wherever yours is located) and it should have a "login" button. I don't do it to play the game normally.

I've also tried deleting the launcher and verifying files to get it to update and I got the exact same version again. I think there is a backend issue going on. Even if I didn't have the "UPDATE REQUIRED" I would still have the "UPGRADE" button even though I already own Odyssey.

I mean login, not launching the launcher. This is what the launcher display when i try to login with my Frontier account instead of Steam auto-login.

I don't use Steam. I'm launching from EDLaunch.exe, which starts the game launcher. I log in and it says Upgrade in blue at the bottom. I click it, it goes slightly darker and then freezes. Won't even close, I have to stop it in the task manager.

On oculus and I'm stuck. It will download but won't install. Try to start the launcher from the game files but oculus starts up and tells me I need to update then closes the launcher.

WHAT DO YOU THINK IM TRYING TO DO OCULUS?

The lauchner drives me crazy... Started with Steam = no Update. Started Steam solo and suddenly he downloaded a 220 kb Elite Update. Restarted
Launcher = error message of missing update. Closing Launcher & Steam and started Launcher solo = i can start the update progress.

Really FD, just nuke your Launcher.. my update yesterday took about 4,5 hours (100 mbit vdsl) and the Lauchner shows until shortly before the end
always 2 hours download time. Even Elite on my C64 around 1986 ran smoother... :)

If every update causes such problems - then congratulations.

The update launcher I thought froze for me, but after about two mins of black it kicked in. What was odd was it opened a window instead of full screen when launching the game. Afterwards I went to the graphics settings and retoggled full screen.

I went in, tooled aound in and SRV for a bit on a rocky world. No issues so far with this patch.

I had this happening for a while then it stopped auto closing on me and let me click upgrade (which was really download the update).

I did this , and after that the game crahses as soon as i want to start a SP or Public game..

I cant play Odyssey or Horzion anymore ..it always crahses as soon as i start Single play Game
Get the Message "EliteDangerouse64.exe" Problem with that...

This morning and afternoon i coul play it without any problems it startet in evening after i have delete the files in OptionsGraphics Folder.

I reinstalled the Game already about the Epic Store ...but the same Problem . I need Help

For thoses who have the launcher requiring an update and who can't manualy login, you can try to move (or delete) the .\Steam\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\ folder

This is an unforgivable embarrassment from frontier. A cash grab and management push for financial release. Frontier should now start offering 50% at least refunds to players buying into a full release that clearly is a beta.

ARE WE GOING TO GET PATCH NOTES ANYTIME SOON BEFORE CHRISTMAS MAYBE.

As always communication and frontier is like trying to merge Coca-Cola and pepsi....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Steam,
  • right click on Elite Dangerous game in your Library
  • Manage -> Browse Local Files
  • Double click on EDLaunch.exe
The Elite Dangerous Launcher started and wanted my to Login - I did.
Then Odyssey was listed as needin an Upgrade, which I did. This went very fast.
Then it was ready to Play. I exited the Elite Dangerous Launcher and Steam worked correctly.
