The swan should’ve made the pelican and duck possible I hope they come soon!Getting a duck, a pelican and additional pheasant species would make wonders for ther bird roster. Aside from maybe animating the pelicans beak, it should not be such an issue to create these.
How is this a thread about hot takes when you’re just asking people to make a DLC?Weekly Hot Take
I realized a pattern from the 3 most recent dlc's, including America's Animal Pack, each have one unique animal that requires some form of new rig (Chicken, Sifaka, and now Saki) and then the rest are relatively easy to make animals, with one or two requiring some more effort then the rest but still being nothing insanely difficult to do (Highland Cow, Hamadryas Baboon, Dik-Dik, Bush Dog) so I wondered, using Frontier's current dlc template how would you make a new dlc, here is a template for what you need to do as well as a example of it
Clone: Reuses existing rig
Semi-Clone: somewhat different from existing rig, but still doesn't require to much effort
New rig: sadly we probably wont get another Porcupine or swan, so these will have to use a existing rig as a starting point, but can also be unique (animals like Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine, Pelican, Howler Monkey, Honey Badger, etc)

I think the problem is that players probably are comparing birds to what we already have. We've seen it mentioned already that "spoonbills and ibises won't work because they perch a lot," but wasn't something similar said about how we wouldn't get gibbons because they brachiate, something we didn't have at the time? And now look: not only have we gotten 2 gibbon species that brachiate, but we have orangutans doing it too. And on top of that, what initially started off as an enrichment-only behavior has been expanded on tremendously by adding that capability to vines and rope.
So, I think it boils down to more comparing what we could get to what we have. It's easy to say that more cranes, flamingos, and penguins are the only birds we'll get by forgetting that it is capable to bring certain behaviors in-game through specific enrichment or build pieces
I think its more the circumstance around the birds that are causing this rather than people not wanting a second flamingo etc period.
With something like the black bear and carnivorans its a little different imo. Like we have every mayor group of carnivora represented with one or two options: we got a bunch of cats, bunch of dogs, bunch of bears, a couple seals, otters, procyonids, hyeanas, you get the idea. The only missing "types" of carnivorans are a more marten/weasle like mustelid and a "civet". If we didnt had any seals yet i imagine the reactions would be very similar if they put the black bear in an NA pack over the sea lion.
For birds its a little different since there are some archetypes that are still missing completely like a pelican or a duck. Like if we already had a good selection of birds id be fine with something like another flamingo, especially since there would potentially be some cool options to mix it with.
Honestly going off what all of you said I do get it a bit better now, though to highlight the brachiation stuff:Exactly. That's my point of view as well. That said, some birds clones are also important like what happened with the ratites or with penguins. I just wish we could get at least one unique bird i'm between clones. And no, the chicken doesn't count... The kiwi kind of does, even if it is from an overreprese ted group. The swan and the crane are the best examples i guess.
Never say never. I feel like, despite the mistakes and flops this last year with DLC and communication, I feel like the devs are still trying to listen to the community:I’m more just sad that birds can’t really seem to afford the luxury of having “extras” for representation.
So it’s not that I’m trying to give up hope, I feel like more birds is definitely on the table.Never say never. I feel like, despite the mistakes and flops this last year with DLC and communication, I feel like the devs are still trying to listen to the community:
I'm saying that we don't know exactly what'll happen, but don't completely give up hope until we know for sure the support is over
- Barnyard, for example, listened to the community to bring domestic animals and introduce in the update a new way to make interactive habitats. That's something many have wanted since the beginning of the game
- Zookeeper Collection featured several highly requested animals and had a semi-worldwide approach. It brought us some species we felt were missing from previous packs, like the tortoise and baboon, as well as some favorites that might not have easily fit elsewhere, like the sifaka, dik-dik, and Pallas cat. Heck, it even brought the spectacled bear, which will go great with the upcoming DLC
- Americas pack is giving us a primarily Latin America DLC, with the roster and props. Yeah, it could've been better, and we're not really sure what happened in the 1st place, but we can't argue that it somewhat tempered the desires for SA (although there are still several favorites that we want)
Well someone's choices for a dlc might be controversial, also this was just more of a one of then anything else, I will go back to actual hot takes next week. How is this a thread about hot takes when you’re just asking people to make a DLC?
Yeah they really "padded out" the wording on the Free Update to make it look a lot bigger. But most of it was just updating names/terminology.don't think this is really a hot take but the new pack really should of been delayed.
When a reviewer had 3/7 animals show some sort of bug including getting frozen mid animations, the extent of the free update was a single fake looking flower, the building pieces were realistically just 3 or 4 objects broken down and the rhea being so fundamentally wrong it hurts this pack was not ready for a release.
Tbf as one of the few vocally underwhelmed by the american flamingo, id be the same for the ABBI got a hot take: I got to get over the fact that birds (as they currently are in PZ) will just never be as popular as I wish. Having no flying birds drastically reduces the value of birds for a lot of players, it’s like taking Tom Brady out of the Patriots Dynasty.
I can want another crane, flamingo, swan, or penguin and someone can tell me they are “clones” and don’t add anything new to the game. Then in that same breath talk about how important it is we get the American Black Bear.
“It’s so common in American Zoos, and would mean so much to local representation!”
“But the Flamingo doesn’t, and it’s lame.”
I’m not saying I don’t want the ABB, I do, but I’m really sick of how birds are relegated to each pick having to add “something new” while we absolutely need this other Asian small cat species to represent yada yada. I’m fine if you find the Rhea or flamingo boring, cause yeah it kind of is. But if we can finish bears, we can finish ratites. If it’s so important we can get two dogs in one pack, we should at least have one more flamingo for a zoo game. Making a Sandhill crane habitat won’t be different than a red crowned crane habitat, it’s just a better match for a local ecosystem. In the same way the habitat for the American Black Bear won’t be too different than a Spectacled bear, it’s just a better match for your build.
I get I just have to get over this, but man it’s a tough pill to swallow.
Its his hot take about what a hot take isHow is this a thread about hot takes when you’re just asking people to make a DLC?

with the mixed quality the previous two packs scenery have had, I had a question, what is a unknown or "controversial" peice/set that you love, I will start with the butterfly signs from Grassland, they are great for gardens and fun all around.
Just out of curiosity. Which animals are freezing mid animation for you? I have this issue with the rhea, where it get stuck in a T-Pose position.don't think this is really a hot take but the new pack really should of been delayed.

The whole of the Australia pack scenery. People seem to dislike that pack's pieces. I think they are some of the best in the game hahaWeekly Hot Take

I agree, these peices are great. The whole of the Australia pack scenery. People seem to dislike that pack's pieces. I think they are some of the best in the game haha
Maybe is because back when i played ZT2 i spent a lot of time trying to build an Australian zoo with that vibe and didn't have pieces like that and PZ just give them all in one set lol
But regardless of being good for theming i think it has pieces that are useful in general.
I personally havent seen any freezes yet but the reviewer I watched before I could get the pack had the rhea freeze in the same way.Just out of curiosity. Which animals are freezing mid animation for you? I have this issue with the rhea, where it get stuck in a T-Pose position.
