1) Does the stick twist for yaw control?
2) Does HOTAS make keyboard unnecessary / redundant for flight?
3) Is the base weighted to prevent "tipping"?
4) Related to above, how "stiff" is the stick and throttle?
5) How far can throttle be separated from the stick?
6) How easy / hard is it to navigate menus and galmap using HOTAS?
7) DO WE KNOW FOR SURE THIS WILL WORK WITH PS4 ED?
1) Yes, but you can turn a screw at the bottom of the stick to stop it turning if you don't like it
2) Without knowing if keyboard is available I don't know how this can be answered; however the FAQ has NOTHING on keyboard support. I suspect Frontier would like this, but unless it's supported by the PS4 they are in SONY's hands.
3) It has some weight to it, and obviously a reasonable large footprint. I can't see it tipping unless you're really heavy handed (at least with stick and throttle find together. If you separate them I think they would be considerably easier to tip. (UPDATE: I do know where my scales are and it weighs 1626 grams)
4) Fairly lose. There is an adjuster on the base of the stick but even on the highest setting it doesn't feel 'stiff'. The lowest setting still feels a little stiffer than a DS4 stick but that may be down to size. The stiffest setting is just noticeably different from the loosest.
5) Not far. Just enough to place each item either side of you (unless you had hulk like thighs). Even running the cable under anything more than just your legs would likely be a no. I'd measure it but I have fastened mine together and wrapped the cable round and I have no idea where my tape measure is!
6) Not played so no idea on this. I imagine XBox users can only use a controller, so you would be using the HAT switch or the full stick to control it. I tested the HAT switch on my laptop the other day and it definitely has 8 positions, not 4. The touch pad on the DS4 may be preferable but I can't see a touch pad that small being great personally. Pinching to zoom and scrolling around is not great on my iPhone 6s plus which is considerable larger than the touch pad on the DS4. Personally the touch pad on DS4 is a bit of a gimmick; the extra buttons it gives are far more useful than the touch.
7) Yes, absolutely but I am not sure if we have a definitive answer on #dayone (and of course the HOTAS 4 is the ONLY officially supported HOTAS for PS4)
Will there be Joystick support for PS4™?
So far we have confirmed that Thrustmaster will be supported for Elite Dangerous on PS4™. Please keep an eye on our social media channels and forums for further information after release.
