How can I afford a fleet carrier?

I'm sure before Carriers were released, Frontier stated that they wanted it to be an 'end game' type of Ship.......originally it was concieved to be a Squadron only addition - I'd even been looking into how I could utilize my Squadron of two into getting a Carrier........these were then scrapped.

Personally, Ive no issue with a Carrier cost or it's weekly maintainence costs.
I think game is a sandbox - It's mean by definition don't have beginning or end. But like guy who start topic I had similar problems on my xbox account - played more than 2 years, doing some missions and try enjoy game - I build small fleet with around 12 ships and my bank balance is bellow 3bil - I have elite in trading and explo, master in combat - I think you understand what I try to say... If that is not 'end game' that what it is?

On PC I bought licence only for update purposes and I don't have ambition to get towards fleet here...

I have no issues with the weekly cost either.
I only wish that the crew I am paying for would actually do something.
Bridge - I'm paying a captain to jump the ship... but it's me plotting the course. No queuing. Can't be that hard to follow a post-it note, no?
Tritium depot - I have to get a ship on the deck, with enough cargo to move trit from the storage, to my ship, so then I can donate it to the fuel tank.
Trading section - Would be nice to be able to set a reserve amount. Like "Sell all tritium but only down to 1000".
Fuel supervisor - Fuel is so cheap, why do I have to prompt you to refuel my ship when I land?
Repair officer - Same goes. I'm the boss, I land, you fix, why do I have to tell you?
Armoury - My guns are empty, my missiles have been fired, what do we do next? That's right... get to work. WITHOUT me having to tell you!

So many things we are paying these people for, and they only work when prompted/we still do everything ourselves?

Shield-less Python (there's a joke there somewhere Mr Hat!) for Robigo passenger runs is hands down still one of the best credit earners and nets you Grade 5 Mats to boot.
I still use it as a fast way of getting credits for FC refuel before heading out.
Sure it gets a tad grindy but just chuck on some reruns of Infinate Monkey Cage (other educational crap is available) and play chicken with the Lugas at the Astronomic's beacon.

Getting my fleet carrier was the best thing ive done in game, as a soloer its complely changed the way i play for the better.
In the bubble it has all my ships so i can zip from place to place mining/gathering/CGs etc, out in the black its a risk free base station that lets me explore using whatever ship i want whilst having my mining ships if i get bored.

Yes I know it's a sandbox game, that's why I chose my words & referred to the Carrier as a end game 'TYPE' of Ship.

Something to aim for, plan for, work for.......if it's your thing!
Something introduced for those who 'feel' an end game has been reached in the three main professions. Probably one reason why Frontier have added two more to aim for in Odyssey & increased the number of Elite ranks in Trade, Combat & Exploration too.

Now they're the same gripes that I have.....paying a crew to basically do f all!

At least let me organise the crew to transfer Tritium into the Ship's Depot remotely, instead of having to traipse back every time to fill it up.

I need a method to get one, Any ideas?

Do i bounty hunt? Haul cargo? Passenger ferry?? WHAT CAN I DO!

Thanks CMDRS
What people say and play the game and have patience. Otherwise you'll grind and won't have any fun. Especially because you need to pay weekly to maintain your carrier which should be part of the thought-process when getting one.
I still hate the idea of weekly upkeep when not even online with a passion, but when I bought my carrier I made sure I wouldn't have to worry about it for about two years.

I think the upkeep is a bit of a red herring.
My FC is only fitted out for personal use (no Shipyard or Outfitting) and with no jumps its a smidge over 15mil a week.
If your mining, fighting or doing missions you can possibly make that in an hour, its about 1.5 Robby runs! Even out in the Black i can cover that inc cost of jumps and fuel just mapping a few systems.

Seriously don't let the upkeep put you off, id happily pay double for this piece of kit.

It's a red herring indeed. Once you get a carrier it's 10x easier to make money. I quickly had 15 years of upkeep and my commander also carries 7-8 billion in walking-around money.

For example, I bought 8000 tons of meta-alloys off a couple of Odyssey commanders doing the Ross 692 surface run. Then I turned around and sold 5k tons for a 2 billion profit, just by putting them up for sale and making sure my carrier market was on Inara.

I still have no idea why people want meta alloys in that sort of quantity. I still have thousands of tons of the stuff.

In the meantime the market for MetaAlloys appears to have crashed because of all the carriers brimming with it. And I'm sure that somewhere out there people are accusing FDev of 'nerfing' something or other, when it's all down to supply and demand.

PSST anyone want to buy a used meta-alloy?
