Having never played a single Fallout game (shooters like that are somewhat lacking in appeal to me), I have no idea about what you speak.
Ditto...me daughter played it though...some sorta post apocalypse affair but not sure what the mechanics were. I do know it wasnt set in space....but thats about it fer me. Reviews look semi decent though ^
[Off topic] I don't recall fallout 1 and 2 having major base-building components.... I haven't played the others.
I get the sentiment though, I'm not wanting ED to evolve into minecraft in space.
Fallouts 1-3 were wonderful open world post apocalyptic first player RPG/FPS.
Fallout 4 retained that, but added in utterly pointless and irrelevant base-building - probably in response to players saying 'wouldn't it be cool'.
Huge amount of development time and effort spent on a feature that had nothing to do with the the core gameplay.
You can have your base-building, if that's what you want, but please can it be a low priority, after all the cool spaceship stuff has been done?
Player owned bases would add nothing but further opportunities for players to harass and grief each other.Maybe but in reality this does nothing to enhance the game either. I can see player owned bases as a way of extending exploration which is a largely neglected part of the game, yet for some of us a very therapeutic pastime.

FD cant even give us persistent storage in a space station.
And you people want Player Owned Death Stars.
*whistles*
Luck with that.
I rather think I dealt with the griefing aspect in my post which you seem to have chosen to ignore.Player owned bases would add nothing but further opportunities for players to harass and grief each other.
There are other BETTER ways exploration can be enhanced with out resorting to the depraved depths of EvE like mechanics.
With 2.4, it seems FD are starting to go along the lines of those relevant better options...
This right here!
My preference would be for some in game system to develop a factions assets/facilities through ingame actions. That way much loved and well supported factions could develop areas of space. These could be purely cosmetic assets or development of station facilities
I wonder would a personalized hanger/space in a station or at a surface port satisfy the need for personal space? Different elements in the "hanger" could be earned by in game activities that would also benefit the owning faction. Bling for the "hanger" available from the FD store. Just a thought.
Again I would see bases as being immune from damage, after all the limitations to protection from attack that ships have would not be present. That wouldn't neccessarilly mean that your ship couldn't be attacked if it were on the surface. In this way instancing problems would be solved.Definitely a terrific concept, with lots of options. The biggest issue will (imo) be the open/pg/solo representation of your base. If it's not represented in all three, then many players could build their bases in the same place, causing problems when they end up playing in the same mode.
So I think bases would need to be represented in all modes. This then raises it's own issues as it would be annoying to play in solo, and watch your base being destroyed by "invisible" attackers in Open (and believe me, that's going to happen if bases can be destroyed). You could make bases immune from damage, but that would be annoying to the PvPers, and their experience needs to be preserved too.
I'm not sure what I'd want from my base, whether it's just a place to call mine and keep my ships, or whether I can actually ultimately build something with all the features of a main surface port. Even if it was just a piece of the Universe to call my own, and was nothing more than a landing pad and hanger space for my fleet, it would still be cool.
I'll be amazed if this isn't on the long term discussion list at FDev.

As for ignoring... no, I totally disagree with your viewpoint... there is a marked difference.I also find it odd that when I clearly outlined where the benefits to exploration were, you chose also to ignore those and claim that the ideas I had added nothing to exploration.
