Newcomer / Intro How do I find where to buy a Cobra MkIII?

Thank you boys.
I've bought my Cobra Mk III from the team at I Salo Prospect in the System of Brestla.
Special thanks to CMDR Northpin for providing details regarding where to buy; CMDR Para Handy for teaching me about tick boxes in a Galaxy Map; CMDR Zieman for telling about places not to visit and finally my old mate CMDR Codger for keeping me focused on achieving my goal. (y)
I know I paid top dollar, but the price was less than four hundred and fifty thousand credits so I'm not complaining.
Now to get some flight hours in and get myself fully acquainted with EDDB. ;)
Glad you found what you were looking for.

Regarding the external databases - I view these as the "internet" of the galaxy that would exist in that future but was excluded from the game proper, for whichever irrelevant reason. Its great that FDev exposed the information in the first place for others to build the existing external tools.

I typically only use the external tools when I really need to find something that can take me hours to locate in the game (inara.cz/EDDB) and sometimes for designing new ships/load-outs (coriolis.io and the other, better, one whose name I forget at the moment)

Also, rather than having my, multi-window and hundreds of tabs, browser open while playing, I use an app on my android phone (EDCompanion, ED Trade Pad Pro or EVA). There are others for iPhone. The apps all have a different focus and somewhat limited functionality and so are not "all powerful". For me, using a tablet/phone in this manner adds to the immersion of being in the far future cockpit of a space ship.

However, as always, YMMV.

What a great informative post! (y)
I'd love to give a huge reply over all the fascinating issues you raise for me, but I've promised myself, "get in the 'pit Wombat; put the pen away!"😜

The Cobra is a fine ship. Congrats Commander.

It was my first ship after the freewinder, and I felt like I was really moving up in the galaxy. I like fast ships. The Cobra is a fast ship.
Thanks mate! I'm looking forward to flying my new ship. A funny thing happened on my way .......... ...............
"WOMBAT !"
"yes sir 😳 ?"
"PUT THE PEN DOWN !"
"yes sir ! "

Aahh... the good old Cobra mk III. I still have mine. Did my first exploration trip to Barnard's Loop in it (22 ly jump range then). It's still a fine ship to travel in and around the bubble. Do some smuggling here, some fighting there, visit Guardian or Thargoid sites for materials, do some canyon racing, land and race around in an SRV, etc... It's engineered now and does 625 m/s and can jump 43 ly. Left quite a few gankers in the dust over the years :p .

Can't resist replying ...... 😖 Thanks for the above. (y)
I moved her (..... should call her "it", but I named her "Manita III" (Manita is my lady friend's name, the one I can't get too in Bali )) to an easier accessed Station. She handled quite nicely after my previous bad experience with her. Which wasn't really her fault. She hasn't been upgraded, so really just the body, introductory modules, and importantly no fuel scoop. :( I was trying to do 20 odd system jumps. 🤭 My upgraded Hauler (Manita 2) did the 20 odd jumps without any refueling, and I expected Manita III to do the same thing! 😆 It's just that huge cockpit with the provisions for two pilots! 😮 I've got a nice, suggested Inara fit-out for her. I need 4 mil. credits and I'm a bit short of cash at the moment. Things are also expensive here at I Sola Prospect, so maybe I'll get her home to ABE RESERVE, stopping for fuel at stations along the way ..... ;)
"WOMBAT !!!!!"
"yes Sir ?" 😖 .............
"PEN DOWN !!!!!!"
"YES SIR!" ;)

You have just illustrated the great strength of the Hauler, it is without engineering the 5th best jumping ship available which puts it about 13 places better than the Cobra III.

If you look at the numbers the differences per jump aren't huge but it mounts up when you are doing multiple jumps.

What do you consider the 4 better ships above it?
Thanks.

By that I take it you mean LY per jump?🤔
Thanks.

Can you do that in Solo Mode?

What are "gankers"?
Thanks.

The only thing you can't do in Solo mode is play and interact with other players in the same instance (any location in the game where you are, IE: settlement, supercruise in system, station, etc...).
What are "gankers"?
Thanks.
Gankers are PvP players who try to, and usually do, destroy other players ships in Open mode for the sole purpose of giving the other players a rebuy. This can also be referred to as "mining salt" as recipients of a ganker attack are usually fairly upset and vocal (IE: salty) afterwards.

A couple of facts:
  • Gankers are mostly not interested in a fair fight, only in making other players upset.

  • Ganking is mostly done in areas where there are large concentrations of other players, like at a Community Goal location (these usually come out every Thursday and last a week) and certain engineer's star systems

  • They can also travel around in "gangs"

  • 99.9% of Open mode is ganker free.

Longer Jumping not necessarily better.
Diamondback Explorer - 41.7Ly
Anaconda - 41.3 Ly
Krait Phantom - 38.4Ly
Asp Explorer - 38.1Ly
Hauler - 36.9Ly

Yes light years per jump, according to the table in Coriolis which I know you have links for.

Thanks mate. I initially misread your comment and thought you meant overall, and hence to my rephrased conversational question, which you can now ignore. ;)
I've been able to juggle " https://coriolis.io/" successfully at last. (y)

Yes... if you like exploration. Barnard's Loop is around 1500 ly away from the bubble. It's the 3/4 reddish circle you can see in the sky everywhere in the bubble. Enroute to Barnard's Loop you'll pass close to Witch Head Nebula, the Orion constellation and Horsehead Nebula (and even more small nebulae). So plenty to see there and such a trip will bring in lots of credits if you sell your exploration data afterwards.
