How FD can fend off a hypothetical goon takeover (or even a real one)

Yeah see what you mean, it's a bit terse innit, there does seem to be a bit of a history prior to that exchange though?

With the teamspeak, it's far superior to text for organising stuff. Not necessarily a requirement but given the buggy nature of groups currently, CMDR messaging not getting through, not being able to reply, instancing going doolaly with CMDRs missing even though others can see them - having immediate communication I think is pretty much required at this point if you actually want to get anything done. It's not a big deal, I mean you can just log in switch your mic off and listen if need be. Not sure if I agree of not but I *can* understand a requirement of teamspeak (if it is actually required in EG I don't know?) for a group who wants to be able to organise itself effectively.

I am a goon, like several of the thousands playing this game...

What most people dont realize is that we #1 prefer Roger Wilco over anything else, Why does our choice of not installing teamcrap is a contentious threat to some fat dude sitting on his underwear playing a space game, is beyond me, but if he wants to start a war over that, then be my guest... but personally I think The EGG's Leaders are just after some publicity because he is picking a fight with "goon squad"...

Which brings me to my third point, how on earth you are going to find out who is a Goon... when there are no guild tags or anything... even the guy below you over there can be a goon... Good Luck at hunting what you dont know about.

Whatever tears this brings you, just know, that all I see is joy.

This will forever be known as the Mumble vs Teamspeak war. It will be ED canon, the first battle in the great inter-Empire struggle.

I wonder when the Ventrilo contingent is gonna play their hand, IMHO these are the guys you really have to worry about.

instancing and greefers - bounty and player killers

i may well suggest a player only recoverable side bounty system - the player bounty would not cause police or system aggro but singularly be recoverable by a player....
the bounty amount per kill by the player can be arranged, like an ordinary player ....

so the player only recoverable bounty would not be included in the normal game system ... and thusly a player can get justice for being killed/attacked (when not already covered by a bounty or player colectable bounty)...

pirates want rep and this is the way to give them it... by ether obtaining the cash or losing it.

we can then have an elite player table with both wanted level and honest/dishonest kill ratio, based solely upon PvP kills...

As long as mumble continues to support Onionhead farmers, we're going to stick with it.

The Great Voicecom Wars

"At first, there were just mumbles of revolution. Then things boiled over and lines were drawn, messages sent. People took sides and spoke of teams. Little did they know what loomed over the horizon was an enemy no one expected. The battles would be bloody, countless commanders vented to space in the opening salvos."

In 3301, war was beginning.

O hay guys.

I'm a goon and I find it hilarious how much goonfear...no... goonterror exists in a game where we've pretty much just kept to ourselves outside of a few pilots (mad ups to my broheem Shockeh) plinking people too stupid to realise shields are our friends.

What the seething morass of caterwauling plebs fail to realise is that SomethingAwful is a community of (at present count 190,427 users), and just because a group of goons exists in game A does not mean that exact organisation of goons (and therefore their aims/proclivities) also exists in game B.

Also, most ED-playing goons have long-standing love affairs with both this series and other traditional space sims so the ersome claims that there won't be a goon presence due to some perceived skill barrier is just as funny as watching some pubbie get bent out of shape claiming that we're going to ruin the game and attempting to enact vast gameplay changes based upon the potential that "the goons are coming."

Get over yourselves, screw Eve and its dramaqueening, and keep flying unshielded ships. Thank you drive through.

No. Just NO. Spend less time thinking up bad and unnecessary solutions to illusory problems and more time trading or practicing dog fighting or something, ANYTHING but wasting the rest of the forum's time with your inane 'solutions'.

The protections are still missing. There are a lot of behavioral sanctions planned, but so far the Pilots Federation has no teeth. Ganking clean commanders needs to sting. My solution would be to handle it like insurance payments. A fine based on the value of the ship you fly, like the insurance costs. Even a 2.5% penalty would really sting. If you're flying a four million Viper build, ganking a clean commander would cost 100,000 cr.

yup. "some player interdicts and destroys me while I am carrying slaves to sell on the black market?!! GRIEFING!!!! MODS AND DEVS THIS IS NOT WHAT THE GAME SHOULD BE LIKE PUNISH THEM PLZ" :rage:

Edit: page 22! The Goon Embassy endures.

Pretty much seconding this sentiment. Being told I'm a scumbag by a slave trader is hilarious, why should I get punished for roleplaying a freedom fighter or what not?

Or I could REALLY be a jerk, and throw this back at them: "Well if you keep on getting shot, maybe you should learn to play better!"

Well but he is right: The game lacks angry hordes of freedom fighter NPCs decending on everyone carrying slaves to destroy them and free the slaves. (And in empire space, corrupt space official NPCs decending on them with capital ships to steal their slaves. Or destroy unsanctioned slavers, take your pick.)

It's sad that only players are allowed to hunt down slaver scum.
