How Gankers Made my Game more Fun.

Historically, real explorers have often been armed to the teeth, because that was part of preparing for both known and unknown threats. Mutinies, claim jumpers, hostile natives, other explorers sponsored by hostile states, etc and so forth, were frequent possibilities. If anything, prominent fictional explorers are even more militant.

If someone else knows about it and can get to it, assuming that no one else will be there, or that everyone else going there will be friendly, is pretty silly, IMO.
So are you saying Scott of the Antarctic was ganked?

Went to Dav's Hope for some mats for my alt CMDR (Mostly Harmless, barely engineered but A-rated multi-purpose Cobra 3, so no hull nor shield tank) and it was infested with gankers.

I toyed with them a little bit, managed to escape not once but twice in a row low-waking from ships that were faster than me (Chieftan & Krait, one of them only spotted me when I recalled my ship to leave, and took about 40% of my hull, but that was it - you'd be surprised how much a little bit of fancy flying and silent running can add to your survivability), and watched a couple of Corvettes from the comfy chair in my SRV, right under their noses - they just couldn't see me.

Came for the mat grind, but spent a lot more time having fun.

So are you saying Scott of the Antarctic was ganked?

I was thinking more of explorers like Hanno, Zeng He, and Magellan...who either suspected they'd encounter other people, or who didn't have good reason to expect they wouldn't. Magellan was almost ganked by his own expedition early on, and was eventually counter-ganked by some natives he tried to forcibly convert.

Scott was exploring lands that were uninhabitable, of no economic value, and were unlikely to encounter anyone.

It happens regularly when there’s a point of interest(like the North Pole),people are drawn to it and the gankers are also.

Fixed points of interest generally aren't unexplored. They're tourist destinations, not unknowns.

It should also be noted that the history of arctic exploration is riddled with violence. The arctic is not entirely uninhabited and is also home to potentially dangerous fauna. Plenty of expeditions suffered from mutiny or attacks by natives. There was also much potential for conflict over what was presumed to be economically viable sea routes and natural resources.

Conversely the antarctic is desolate. No one expected to find anything of economically exploitable value there and the race for the south pole was largely sporting and a matter of pride.

In ED, you aren't likely to be ganked trying to reach a new 'galactic north pole', because such areas are not well trafficked. However, if you're going to Sag A*, beagle point, or any other place popular enough to have a station, tourist beacon, or collection of FCs; or traveling with a massive, publicly announced, expedition that is following a route designed so anyone can keep up and tag a long, you'd have to be a fool to not expect and prepare for trouble.

I think the biggest reason that players don't go to the open world is the fact that you can't choose where to be respawn, rebuys everyone can practically pay, the thing that really p1ss3s you off is the fact that you don't have the option to choose the system/station from respawn. Anyway, I sympathize with the gankers because they “force” us to evolve in an understated way in the game. If you want to survive, be strong and make some good friends.

Well, for explorer's at least, the DSSA is a godsend. If an explorer has visited a DSSA FC and gets wiped, she will respawn at that particular FC. For those of you who may not know. The DSSA, Deep Space Support Array, is a constellation of Fleet Carriers placed throughout the entirety of the big black whose purpose is to render aid and comfort to those in need.

Of course, the DSSA renders aid to gank units, too. But at the very least, exploration data can be sold more often and with more safety.

So there was that minievent everybody talked about, so i thought: "Nice, some lorestuff. Le's go there." Since i play in open 90% of the times, i knew there might be murderes flying around the site. So i packed up my PackhoundCutter, my Big Lasergunspewpew Corvette and managed to get a Spot with my Carrier. Shortly after i arrive i read a message from someone "This area is protected by SPEAR (Or S.P.E.A.R). Landing permit is required if you wanna touch down" Something like that, i dont remember the exact wording.

First i thought its some RPers and went full on RP myself. Went in Asking for Landingpermission after dropping in to the site as they requested. No answer and nobody present except a DBX. So i just land and get ready to deploy my SRV. Suddenly a FDL appears and instantly targets me. (Insert some long message you cannot Read because you get attacked 0,5 seconds after it got posted) PEW PEW, i instantly start the Engines and deploy my fighter. The Guy flies a typical Rail FDL, he quickly realizes that im not one of those "But i want a Cutter/Corvette even though i am new and have no engineer unlocked" people and he plays for time by boosting away a lot. Gladly i have the speedbreaker on one of my Packhound racks and fire single volleys to slow him every time he goes for a Railsalvo. His shields are about to drop, he runs, suddenly more ships drop in. His other Friends from SPEAR of Course. The FDL runs (As is typical for gankers when they meet resistance), i try to run after him but the massive amount of Carriers sadly cause me to DC trying to enter supercruise.

I log back in and warn people that there Are Gankers pretending to be Protectors and that visitors should bring armed ships wich quickly resulted in the Gankers hating towards me (i kept some salt for later usage).
Was loads of fun!

Is there a meaming to the Story? Maybe, if you wanna play in open, never go unarmed to heavily visited sites and you might be the one ganking the Ganker.
elitedangerous-spear.com just for your knowledge there are many gankers out there pretending to be Spear. But Spear is the Lawful site of things.
So if someone attacks you for no reason and is calling him self Spear its wrong

If you're getting killed by gankers it's probably because you're not submitted to Interdiction, throwing all pips to systems boosting and waking out.
