How Gankers Made my Game more Fun.

Making Robigo Mines/Sothis Passenger runs in Open makes you wanna be a ganker when you find those people afk in the only Medium landing pad at Robigo Mines, scan their ship and discover they have no passenger cabins,no cargo bays and mostly "nonsense" stuff inside.... Even direct messages are useless since they won't answer.

Been waiting for a docking queue for over six years!

Yeah, usually can't even do that run in PG on a weekend and not have to wait on a hollow square to get off that medium pad at Robigo mines. Sometimes solo is just better suited to the task at hand.

I highly doubt that those folks were really part of SPEAR. We don't ask for a landing permit, let alone gank innocent commanders. In fact, we are pretty much the opposite: we warn other commanders of known hostiles in hot spots (e.g. Deciat or CG), and we go after them so you don't have to :)

This was likely yet another attempt at impersonating us.

OP, please DM me if you have specific commander names so that we can confirm. Also, would you mind editing your first post accordingly? Thanks!

Finally someone gets it. The risk of being ganked really pushes you to build your ships in a smart way, instead of the paper ships you can fly in solo mode.
You are cute. Also delusional. Gankers hit on well-engineered ships as well. Well, mostly when they are in a pack. Gankers gank, because they enjoy the unfair advantage, whether they hit on a weaker ship or they gang bang single opponents. Gankers enjoy messing up other players. Period. Some childhood problem they couldn't process and they ill behave...

If ganking was an approved "playstyle" then FDev wouldn't have implemented a player block feature. Argue with this. :)

The original post smells. My opinion, it even can be a guerilla ganker campaing. Moreover, SPEAR is the definition of anti-ganking. The player who stated what OP wrote simply impersonated a SPEAR member. Again, this is only something a ganker would do...

I would be careful about ascribing motivation to gankers, some may be as you describe above, but many are certainly not. If you really want to know. Ask them.

Labeling people is not in general, a good idea. :)

Here are two true stories.

I used to belong to a lawful group. One day, my friend, Commander X, was really upset, his laptop broke and he did not have the funds to purchase another. I told this to the squad leader and sent out multiple requests to help Commander X back online. No One Helped, except me. It took over a year for Commander X to get back to playing again.

Now there is this other squad, a Ganker Squad, whose leader was in terrible need of a new computer. The leader was also not very wealthy. Well, the entire Ganker Squad chipped in and bought him a new computer for Christmas.

People are complicated.

:)

Before carriers and even ship transfer, whenever minievent happend like recent one with secret imperial prison along most emotionless voiced log ever, almost there was no ganking at all, most of gankers back then, rarely ever leaved bubble... There was decent chance to meet one or two gankers, usualy only a pair or solo ones but 5 or 6 at once not so often, while today, due of carriers, gettin into 5+ FDL gank squad is very likely thing to happen at "event" no matter how distant it is. Especially if its same day whenever event rolls out.

Indeed, people are complicated. It didn't take long for some of the folks who helped said commander to later do a 180 and drag them in the mud. 🤷‍♂️

No problem, from the players manual description of the block feature: Block player (this option prevents you receiving messages from the player and reduces the chance of meeting them during the game).

Not a word about ganking or any play style.

Reading into a players' motivations or morality based on what they have their fantasy characters do in a video game is no different from making assumptions about the personal lives of authors' based on the behavior of a random characters in stories they've written.

The implication that there aren't crappy people that play amicable characters or amicable people who play scum is almost as absurd as the idea that you can read the minds of other players and know their history or motives.

This is an obviously fallacious assertion.

You could replace the word "ganking" in your statement with any other activity and it wouldn't be any more or less incorrect, because blocking can be done for any reason, or none at all. Your CMDR can be blocked simply for existing, and there is no reason to assume ganking is even the predominant motive for initiating a block, let alone the only one.

I almost always like your posts - but in this case I believe you are closing your eyes to the fact that what someone does in ED may have direct consequences on someone else’s gameplay. You can’t compare that to an authors written story that has no dynamic interactions with real people.
