How I lost 60 million in a day.

New ship cost budget:

+ cost of ship
+ cost of all (full size) D grade modules
+ cost of C grade or better FSD and Power Gen
+ cost of defensive utility mount gear
+ cost of estimated rebuy x2
+ cost of buying a full load of Palladium as cargo
---
= true amount of credits you need save up

And that's about and 'plain truth' as you can get.
.
I always just assumed "double the price to skate buy, triple to be comfortable".
.
Works out :
.
Python needs 100-110 million ( plus re-buys ) = 110-120 million
Anaconda : 300 million
Cutter : 350 million
Cobra : 1.5 million
Sidewinder : Who cares, it's free...

2.1 is a more Dangerous Elite than it has been in the past.

As many have pointed out, you really need to mod the Python to get the most out of it and make it a consistently survivable ship in any situation, short of a really good wing of PvP CMDR's.

OP - If you haven't done so yet, work on getting access and rank to Engineers in a Cobra or Asp before moving up to a Python so that you can mod the Python when you get one.

Mod priority:

FSD
Thrusters
Shields and boosters

Play defense until you have a fast ship with great shields that can cover distance with great range. This makes survival and fast ranking with Engineers so much easier.

Speed + strong shields = survival

My Python boosts to 415m/s and has 1600mj shields

Never been blown up or even damaged significantly.

My wingmate busted back to a sidey after a couple of similar encounters, the python is a bit of a whale without the right upgrades, tactics and a little FAoff skill.

On a brighter note, the recent Community goals have been proper gold mines, hopefully next weeks will be something suitable for you to make a killing.

This is not only for Pythons: Never buy a ship before you can fully A-rate it and rebuy it 2 times.

Do the Sothis run and you´ll be back in your Python in a wink.

Huh, the more you know.

So if I go to a HazRes with a FDL or a Python I'm bound to find lots of Condas?

I've just been in a HazRes with a Python, and got a whole load of Eagles, iEagles (wing x 3), iCourier, FAS, FGS, Asp Ex, Asp Scout, Viper 3 & 4, Cobra 3, iClipper, FdLs and Pythons. No Anacondas in sight. The scariest wings in the area was a Python with two Asp Scout wingmen, and an FdL with two Vipers.

I think it really depends on the RNG gods. NPC interdiction spawns might be ship/mission dependent. Res are (or at least can be) more varied.

Yeah - I'd go along with this for advice. Not necessarily to A-rate everything, but the Power Plant, Distributor, FSD and Thrusters I generally want B or higher fitted when I buy the ship. Currently got 350 mil saved for an Anaconda, but I'm not going to be comfortable buying one till 500 mill-ish.
